Medal of Honor awarded Battlefield 3 multiplayer beta

EA offering Limited Edition purchasers of EALA's next effort guaranteed access to upcoming DICE-developed shooter.

Gamers are used to paying a premium for the limited edition of any given title, but EA will be bucking that trend with the release of Medal of Honor. Earlier this month, the publisher said that it would be packing in a handful of exclusive and early-access in-game weapons and camouflage to Limited Edition purchasers, all for the standard $60 price tag. PlayStation 3 gamers who pick up the package are even being offered a free copy of Medal of Honor Frontline.

Today, EA announced that it would be sweetening that deal even further. Those who pick up the Medal of Honor Limited Edition will also be afforded access to the multiplayer beta test for EA Dice's Battlefield 3.

Afghanistan isn't exactly a prime vacation destination this time of year.
Afghanistan isn't exactly a prime vacation destination this time of year.

EA has yet to announce a launch date or platforms for Battlefield 3 and declined to specify whether the offer would be extended to all three platforms that Medal of Honor will be available for. However, the publisher did note that the beta window will open up within 12 months of MOH's October 12 ship date.

The first installment in the series not to be set during World War II, Medal of Honor will follow a group of elite commandos called Tier 1 Operators during missions behind enemy lines in Afghanistan. With the single-player campaign being handled by EALA, DICE has taken the reins on Medal of Honor's online multiplayer.

@ Takeno456 I understand your good intentions with your comment, "if we can please everyone why not." It sounds good on paper. Well, it is just a lot more difficult than that. Many long time battlefield players, such as myself, see Modern Combat and the Bad Company series as a massive step backwards compared to Battlefield 2 and 2142. Not necessarily in gameplay but in everything from player count (64=PC, 24=console), number of vehicles, command structure, and absolutely map size. I simply don't want a Bad Company 3 which would absolutely satisfy most if not all console gamers. I want, and I know I'm not the only one, a true sequel to Battlefield 2. And I'm just not sure if the 360 or PS3 can handle it hardware wise. All us PC fans are saying, some of us more rudely than others, is that we are crossing are fingers that Battlefield 3 is not cutting corners so it can be playable on consoles. We want it to be a true sequel the Battlefield 2 we knew and loved not Bad Company 3.

I really hope that BF3 is PC exclusive. There's a reason BF2 is the highest rated game of the series and I would hate to see BF3 fall so short like how the bad company games only support 24 players and the vehicles handle so badly. However this is a business and DICE knows how much console games sell, so I'm afraid the Battlefield series is officially dead now.

Errrr... Fair Enough. Oh, and to all the PC/Console arguers out there: You may not have realised it, but many, nay, maybe millions of people own a console. And, many developers release shooters on multiple platforms, including consoles. The reason being, if they get a larger fan base (I.E the PS3/X360 fanboys) then it will encourage them to create more games, better, longer and more creative than the previous. It's called the economy. Live with it.

@maddogtaylor The one who is deluding himself is you. Shooters were destined for the PC. I have a 2 thousand dollar PC and a PS3 and I would never buy a PS3 shooter if is already on PC, such as Modern Warfare. Also there are many anti cheat systems on PC online shooters so you are clearly a fool. Shooters are far better on PC, much better graphics and much better aiming, which in a shooter is the most important.

I am so tired of PC fanboys complaining about exclusivity.."Because only PC gamers have the right to enjoy a franchise..if you can't fork over 2-4grand for a gaming rig tough tatas." /sarcasm A good game transcends what's console it's on. There's plenty of good examples of that like Half Life, or Mechwarrior 2 or Diablo 1.

@Takeno456 Yeah you got a point, but the resulting effect is that its going to be a water downed version of bf2. It is not going to be the true battlefield 3 experience you could get if it was PC exclusive.

MOH Beta is terrible. It is like playing a shooter in the 90's. If the final version is anything like it I will definately not be anywhere near it- it reminds me of Call of Booty!

I hope that Battlefield 3 is a PC exclusive. Both Bad Companys have been good, but the multiplayer IMO cannot even compare to Battlefield 2's. I cannot imagine how awesome it would be to have the character progression that Bad Company's online had with the gameplay of Battlefield 2.

@grove12345 You're acting like almost every game being released nowadays isn't multiplatform. That same point about fewer exclusives could be made against the 360 and ps3. The truth is exclusive gaming is burning out because companies don't want to limit their sales unless they're paid huge checks from sony or microsoft.

@SopranosFan I don't have any faith in anything when it comes to gaming (especially CoD, though I am not the trendy hater, I actually like some of Activision's games and I have no shame for admitting it here), DICE can make a bad game just like anyone else can though I agree with you they have a great pedigree (sp?) and a better-than-average chance of turning out a good title. I just think any time a game publisher touts extranious bull-pucky which has nothing to do with the game in question, they're tipping their hand - EA doesn't feel like the game itself will be enough to attract me as a FPS junkie, so they ladle on the "incentives" like there's no tomorrow. It stinks of desperation. Writing on the wall to me: "We're Scared".

I personally do not see a reason why the game should not be on multiple platforms. I noticed a lot of people want it to be pc exclusive and I guess I just don't understand why. If EA can get money from pc gamers and console gamers why not make it for both platforms? Making the game for multiple platforms gives people a choice to play it on whatever platform suits their tastes.

Well if they design the maps to be scalable in size like they did with BF2 they could still push out a console game but focus on the PC game. every map had 3 different size options a server admin could choose from, the console version was scaled down and had way less features available. So, maybe, just maybe we can still get our full sized maps that accommodate jets/bombers. one can dream anyways. And Enough of this "Dumbed down" talk already. Bad Company 2 did a great job on the PC. We got dedicated servers, nice graphical enhancements (Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion, DX 11 soft shadows, 32x AA, etc), and PC driven interface. The gameplay of the Bad company series has smaller maps compared to BF2 so thats not a fair assumption to make that BF3 will follow this trend. They are a business, and it only makes sense to release a game on multiple platforms for more money. Team Fortress 2 was released on all platforms, yet the PC version got MUCH MUCH more.

Why on earth should BF3 be PC exclusive, What about people that dont own or carnt afford a beastly machine to run it and therefore have to resort to a console ? Very selfish if you ask me. Fortunatly I have a 360 and a good PC but Im very happy its gonna be multi platform. Plus it will always look better on the PC anyway so what yall complaining about ? Pure selfishness !

Hmm sure alot of people are upset BF3 is not a PC exclusive. I was hoping it was. People got to be either under 20 years old or in denial if they dont think that PC gaming is dying. To go from 100 PC exclusives a year to like 10, oh ya PC is doing great. And Tier 1 means ALOT of things in the military. Shoot i was classified as a Tier 1 operator. I love BC1. Best BF game i played since 1942. But i want also to have BF3 with 64 players and huge maps... and WW2. I dont think the consoles will bring that.
I don't think they would dare call this Battlefield 3 unless it supported at least up to 64 players on a single map. The core PC Battlefield series has always been about the online multiplayer and this entry should be no different. However, If DICE/EA chooses to make console versions, all of this is up in the air. Let us hope for the best.
Judging by the statement it won't be a PC exclusive which means: . How else would they offer beta access to PS3 players? So, well unless it's an extremely good console port, you're probably in for a disappointment if you're expecting Battlefield series material. Of course, it could be a really good game in the lines of BC2, but certainly not a true continuation of the BF series. Let me add that it's a shame developers tend to ignore the PC market as being unprofitable when there are developers (i.e. Blizzard) that have made milliards from the PC market and have never even touched the console genre. Oh, but there's always piracy to blame when you're too incompetent to make a selling PC game...

@halojp23 well it's supposed to be a true sequel to BF2 (as the name states), but everyone is afraid that it turns out to be another Bad Company. we just have to wait and see. i wish they'd put an end to this speculation and release some hard facts.

Ya i played the MoH beta and it sucked i mean it's like bad company but worse. The whole time i was thinking, ya it's ok but i'm going to stick with bad company 2. But overall it was boring and the worst thing about it was how easily you were killed and how small the explosions were. You'd throw a grenade and it would have a 3 foot blast circumference and if you were very lucky some dude would be in that small area but it would only take 1/4 of his healthy away. But BF3!!! as in battlefront 3 where as EA and lucas arts should team up and make that game

Stop judging games by the Betas. The entire poing of a Beta is to fix the bad parts before the game is released.
