Medal of Honor awarded Battlefield 3 multiplayer beta

EA offering Limited Edition purchasers of EALA's next effort guaranteed access to upcoming DICE-developed shooter.

Gamers are used to paying a premium for the limited edition of any given title, but EA will be bucking that trend with the release of Medal of Honor. Earlier this month, the publisher said that it would be packing in a handful of exclusive and early-access in-game weapons and camouflage to Limited Edition purchasers, all for the standard $60 price tag. PlayStation 3 gamers who pick up the package are even being offered a free copy of Medal of Honor Frontline.

Today, EA announced that it would be sweetening that deal even further. Those who pick up the Medal of Honor Limited Edition will also be afforded access to the multiplayer beta test for EA Dice's Battlefield 3.

Afghanistan isn't exactly a prime vacation destination this time of year.
Afghanistan isn't exactly a prime vacation destination this time of year.

EA has yet to announce a launch date or platforms for Battlefield 3 and declined to specify whether the offer would be extended to all three platforms that Medal of Honor will be available for. However, the publisher did note that the beta window will open up within 12 months of MOH's October 12 ship date.

The first installment in the series not to be set during World War II, Medal of Honor will follow a group of elite commandos called Tier 1 Operators during missions behind enemy lines in Afghanistan. With the single-player campaign being handled by EALA, DICE has taken the reins on Medal of Honor's online multiplayer.

People are being pissed off for the most ridiculous reasons these days. Seriously, who the hell are you to demand stuff?? If you don't like it, then don't buy it. But at least shut the hell up about it! This is actually a cool feature. Those who have already pre-ordered the game will get an extra gift for "free", and fans of the BF-series will want to think about this. Besides, MoH and Battlefield don't seem to be so far apart anymore, with DICE doing the MP-part of both games and both games using the Frostbite engine. If you like BC2, odds are you'll like MoH and also BF3. Look, people. This doesn't mean that NOBODY else is gonna be able to get into the beta one way or another. This just means that by pre-ordering MoH, you will be GUARANTEED access. Say what you want, we all have our own opinions. I have nothing against this, at least. Medal of Honor has A LOT of marketing going for it. It does leave me a little bit sceptical. It can either mean that the game isn't turning out so good, so they're turning to desperate measures to just sell as much as possible as soon as possible (before reviews come out)... OR, the more innocent theory, that they just want to beat the **** out of Activision's sale-record with MW2 - regardless of the quality of the game (which means it can still be a great game). I personally think the reboot will be cool. Hell, even MoH: Airborne wasn't bad. It just wasn't all that great, and WW2 was all but spent by the time it was released. With a larger focus on a more current, controversial conflict, things sure can turn out to be really interesting. I've got my fingers crossed.

Sheesh, EA is pulling out all the stops to make people pre-order this game. A beta for this game, Medal of Honor Frontline in HD, early access to shotguns, MP7 smg, and now Battlefield 3 beta. Edit: After seeing how so many people are actually getting angry with this, I have a question. Does anyone remember how you had to buy Halo ODST so you could play Halo Reach? Don't go blaming certain companies...

@THA-TODD-BEAST Battlefield has always been a PC and console game, granted they released the PC version first if memory serves..... Just because you have a powerhouse rig doesn't mean consoles suck, I like PC games but I can't afford the high cost of upgrades every year just to play the next big thing..... At least with a console I don't have to worry if my system can run it, now if a console added a keyboard and mouse to the mix then we'd be cooking with gasoline......

@powerwolff What I meant by port is a game designed to be played on consoles. Seriously, the maps in BFBC 2 are very tight and linear compared to previous BF's on PC and vehicules have very little perpose. BF on PC has always set the bar for PC gaming and never had in mind if the game would run on consoles. Hell, I actually upgraded my PC everytime one came out. BFBC 2 is a really good game but it has too much COD influences instead of being it's on breed.

As long as this isn't done with the Frostbite Engine again. That Engine is and always will be a console engine unless it get a serious overhaul. I know the "destructible terrain" was a huge feature for Bad Company 2. But I would be willing to do without if it means smoother and better balanced gameplay. I've been playing shooters without destructible environments for years and I personally wouldn't miss it.

All this pre-order crap is either hit or miss. You either get something awesome or you pre-ordered a terrible game expecting some awesome but in the end merely get let down.

@ Maxor127 You're going to catch a lot of heat with bold claims like Bad Company isn't a true battlefield game, but to an extent, I agree with you. Ever since the Battlefield series has departed from PC, we've seen the scale of the games become severely diminished. By that I mean in Battlefield 2, I remember playing 64 player games with numerous jets, helicopters, boats, tanks, and other transport vehicles. Now, DICE has scaled back the number of players, the map size, the number of a vehicles and for what? Building destruction? Not worth the sacrifice IMO. Also, I hope they bring back the command system that battlefield 2 had. I like the idea of a commander calling in artillery, radar, etc rather than allowing players. I also enjoyed the unique game mode 2142 had were missile silos used to reduce the health bar and shield of a massive flying fortress, but you could also plant C4 on the "engine" of the fortress for the instant win. Fun stuff.

If they do release BF3 on consoles as well as PC, the PC version better not suffer as a result. I don't want to see it suffer like Bad Company 2 did. Make the best PC game possible and leave the scraps for the console gamers. All DICE needs to do is redo BF2 with updated graphics using the advancements in the Frostbite engine or even a newer engine. Keep the same rank and award system. Tweak the unlock system to be more diverse. Tweak aircraft and AA. Throw in some updated versions of old BF2 maps. Tweak the shooting mechanics since the hit detection and shooting was one of the flaws of BF2, and make sniping more like Bad Company 2. Otherwise it should be good. It should be a no-brainer. If they try to change things up and make it too much like Bad Company 2, people will be pissed. Bad Company 2 is not a true Battlefield game. And it's ridiculous to call the pitifully small 32-max player maps with a couple vehicles "battlefields."

"Afghanistan isn't exactly a prime vacation destination this time of year." Great this makes me feel better, My Dad is going there this August for he serves as a DS.. hope he is all right :/ Anyways, I'm really looking forward to what consoles BF3 will be available for and will it support the same amount of players around all 3 systems? also, is this referring to BF BC 3? or just plain good ol' Battlefield 3 ( I love both games anyway.

This stinks of desperation on ea's part. I think they are worried about how MOH is going to sell on PC after the terrible console port we got of BC2 and this looks like it's going to be another one.

Really? Buy a game for a Beta? All I can say is I hope the original devs are working on Battlefield 3, you honestly don't know the hundreds of hours I sunk into Battlefield 2. I hope EA doesn't blow this into the water, this is the one FPS that I've been waiting for.

Awesome. Good to see all the PS3 exclusive stuff still coming. The beta for this game was awesome. I'm pretty stingy with my money but I think the offer is value is there. Especially given there are a couple retailers that are offering $10 coupons. Two games for the price of one... SWEET!

Maybe if EA develop the next MoH, multiplayer might as well be just an afterthought... (Since all I heard, and what I've seen in the trailers, is that the beta is just too damn average, although not as ridiculous as MW2.) And seriously, only special edition (same priced as normal edition) of MoH have access to Battlefield 3 multiplayer beta? That's just a dumb desicion. (DICE better have different team to develop on both console and PC version of Battlefield 3.)

I'm kinda worried they're churning out so many games like this. Bad Company 2, MOH, BC2 Vietnam, Battlefield 3...DICE is going to be spread so thin that problems with each game will take longer to address, if at all.

@Killinchris13 it's not BFBC3, it's just BF3. I suggest you reread it. :) @dstv my thoughts exactly. @ZeerusX I didn't have one to start with. BF2 took my non-life away. This will take my non-non-life away.

hmm not too excited for moh, just cause itll be nothing different than cod to me. Good to hear battlefield is being released soon tho. I think I will definitely rent moh, but i will most likely not buy it, but i will buy bfbc3. and this whole preorder moh to get the beta is dumb imo just cause i have zero interest in moh which i think they have realized ppl aren't really caring all that much so they do this. I just hope there is an alternative to getting the beta cuz id like to be part of that, but i'll rent moh to see how it is, not just gonna go out and buy it...sorry DICE.

@King_Gamer19 I don't see how. WIth COD they didn't even bother testing anything with players. They just did whatever hemp-influenced decisions they wanted to do without consulting any of the players. That's what ran COD into the ground. But in the EA franchises they're actually trying to get player feedback. Anyway, i think medal of honor's only redeemable quality will be the single player. It's impossible to surpass bad company 2's multiplayer. MoH's is way too limited in scope and detail compared to bad company 2's although it plays too similarly.

@arsenic911 Have you played BFBC2? It's definitely not a console port to pc...MW2 is a port. Pretty sure DICE mentioned having a separate teams working on BC2 for PC and Console. Anyways, yeah MoH doesn't look to great...maybe the single player will redeem it, but from what I played of the beta it's just a copy of BC2 w/ smaller maps and no real destructible environments.

If the game's Limited Edition is $60, then what is the normal game's price going to be? I'm not sure about getting this though, I still have to try the beta.
