Report: New DS arriving this year

Meh, PSP 3000 seems like just another "thinner better and all around waste of money" DS Lite kinda thing. But usually when Nintendo releases a new system, its for new games, not just an update. Hopefully its just something like DS Lite, cause I really don't wanna buy another system just to play a game they promised me years ago.

man... i just got my ds lite last month and now this comes out! wish they had this 1st generation though...

whats the point of this why cant they just wait another 6 months and bring a new system we dont need another redesign the ds lite is fine

Well, as long as it plays the same games, I'll let circumstance dictate whether I upgrade or not. Right now, I'm fine with my Lite, and I've got a PSP for handheld multimedia functions. But if my Lite (or PSP) should break or something in the near future, I'll look into it.

unlike the psp-3000 the new ds is going to be a completely new handheld, not just a redesign. $188 is not bad for a brand new, the psp cost $250 brand new when it came out.

I think handheld systems should die loll the games are so incredible but it sucks so much to play them on a 5 inch screen, they should make only some kid games on that and put the real good games availlable on consoles. Altough it might be nice for the camera and mp3 player

My DS already has music playback. Video too. The improved wireless technology sounds great though.

Will it just be an ugrade that plays the same games, kinda like last time the DS ugraded?

I'm keeping my Lite. I'm not a big fan of multimedia functions.

Yeah...i hate how Nintendo does this. They really screw with those who were loyal to Nintendo and bought the original DS by coming out with a much better one ever 2 years.

"Sony has come up with a PSP-3000 and now Nintendo has to launch another DS! How classic!!" The DS outsells the PSP by far, so they aren't upgrading the DS to match PSP sales since they easily win. They are upgrading their DS because sales are falling slightly.

That would be mighty nifty, but is the audio gonna very good like the PSP? And for the camera function are they looking for built in or a peripheral of some sort? I hope it'll look cool enough to buy, I just got a used DS that looks mighty new so if it's a good enough redesign.

I'm glad I stuck with my Phat.

$188 is a bit steep for a handheld, an arcade 360 is $200

@ Stonetowerghost, The hinges are too tight on some of the handhelds and it causes the system to break after a while. DS is a good unit, but a lot of the titles are throwaway titles and it keeps me from really keeping the unit long. I have been through three of them and wind up always giving one away to a neice or nephew. They should really launch a new DS with improved graphics and a better control scheme for most games, as the stylus and touch screen seems to be an afterthought for many games.

I'm not a handheld fan but i think sales figures would disagree with "DS sucks". plus any RPG fan should like the DS for the fact all the good classics get released on it.

I guess I'll have to reconsider fixing my broken DS Lite. I will most likely wait for the redesign to come to the U.S.

Once again, game companies prove that they have never heard the phrase "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Seriously, like the PSP-3000 and, are all these minor upgrades necessary? Does the DS really need a camera and silly crap like that? I think not. Like DoMiNiC147 said, if there is nothing major about this "new" DS, I'll be sticking with my Phat.

Id rather see these features added onto the DS2 instead another redesign.

Deep down I knew this was gonna happen, that is why I've held back on the purchase of a DS.

How are the DS Lites breaking, MikeMetroid? I've had my Lite for over 2 years, and it's as sturdy as ever.

@baystatethrashr: they would never get rid of the GBA port since guitar hero on tour is still somewhat new and you can't play the game without it.

sounds cool i heard from another source that they are getting rid of the GBA slot but with pokemon requiring it to access some features i doubt this is true.

Well unless there is something major with the game that I need the camera I'll stick with my lite.

im wondering if i should get this or the psp 3000... but i have a ps3 too so i have an edge towards the psp more.

I'd like to be able to play Virtual console games on my DS. Maybe a feature like the PSPs remote play would be cool.

What? No built in cell phone? I'm just kidding. It's definitely time for a new DS. My touch screen is worn out to hell. @ Shtinky: That's a really need concept design. The best I've seen yet, I think. The clear stylus would kill me, though. I drop that thing all the time, it'd take me forever to find it.

Not getting this cuz i have 1 already & im not trading in my other 1 cuz i dnt play the DS as much as i play the consoles.

Some of you guys are really a bit thick. The PSP has been doing your requested features since it was released. Music? Check. Video? Check. USB? Check. Internet? CHECK CHECK CHECK. Look past the shoddy games library and realize that the PSP is more than that, it's a multimedia device, not a gaming device, just like the PS3. Not saying the DS is bad of course. Speaking of which, I don't know why these upgrades would be needed since the DS is DOMINATING the handheld market.

Ah, trying to appeal to those who don't have a DS yet? What's this? With music? Camera? Well! I can those on the PSP pretty much! Good thing I have both eh.

People shouldnt get their hopes up to much, after all, every game thats yet to be released has to be playable on even the very first Nintendo DS....

Crisis Core? That's PSP mate. I hardly see a redesign nessecary, and the music and camera functions have been on the PSP for a good while now (although in the case of the latter it's an add-on). You guys saying "finally, should have had music yonks ago" should really look at the PSP, especially those who said "I want video next". It has been doing that since it's release. It can do more than games, you know. Pictures Video, Music, Internet, Remote Play, Skype...

2nd gen DS that uses new gamecards or mini CDs? DS2? or just an upraded version DS lite? hmm interesting
