Wii outselling PS3 in Japan 5-to-1

Japan will turn around with true killer RPG aps like FF, Heavenly Sword, White Knight Story, Folklore, etc... That's all they really want, they could care less about shooting a terrorist in 20 different games

LLsmooth PS3 and 360 have no place to go... nothing new to offer.. Actually, this is wrong. More power doesn not only mean better graphics. It also means better AI, better physics, more interactive environment, more elements on screen (as enemies, particles and such)... All of those things greatly affect gameplay, and will allow gameplays that were impossible before. But what does the Wii offer new? Same AI, same physic, same environment but with new control. Seriously, tilting left instead of pressing X doesn't change much things to me. Take the PS1 to PS2 jump. Add that it added was more power, yet many new gameplays were implemented over time thanks to the superior power. If you want new gameplay, it will be on X360 and PS3. G_W_X Why should a GAMES console be more than $250 in this day and age? How about because they have always been when they were new? I paid my PS2 450$ on launch day, it's now barely over 100$. Thats just the price of new techs.

allreginas Hhmmm when you rebutt someone's remarks, why don't you put the WHOLE quote in there? MS tries a lot harder to win consumers, than say, Sony (ex: racist PSP advertisement, sacrificing animals for GOW2 promo). MS has genuinely tried hard but the Japanese consumer will remain loyal to the Japanese companies.

Japan hates Microsoft and I guess they hate Sony now too. I don't blame them though. Sony screwed up worldwide. Microsoft is just have no luck at all in Japan.

If the Wii continues to sell like this in Japan it will be the market leader soon enough.

It sure is hell no joke japan is bias. If they weren't, the Wii wouldn't even outsell the xbox 360 in that origin. Question is, how long will this trend of fanboyism towards the Wii will last, and it's redrawal of good content.

Also I can't wait to see the latest NPD Data. I predict that PS3 will sell less units than the 82,000 they had in April. Wii would probably exceed a little than how much they sell in April. X360 is also falling. DS would definitely exceed PSP (OBVIOUSLY!!). PS2 would still sell, maybe around the same unit as Wii.

reading the members postes it seems alot of them arent liking the old school games for the wii--and modifying them for the wii-mote--this is fine and all but i am not really looking for old school games--if i wanted old school i would pull out my old consoles or go buy them used at various places--i didnt buy a console to play oldschool--but to play games that keep getting moved to later dates--- .. .. funny how someone mention how ps3 and psp is lagging in japan--but they forget to mention how they also hate the xbox360--so this is nothing new--i think alot of it has to do about the prices of the consoles--years ago there was a home system--i think it was neo geo--and the games were outrageous-- n prices--not everyone had them but they sold for a while none the less--.. .. .. i just say play what you want to play and quit the bickering--and someone mentioned that gamespot id ran by microsoft--as you never see anything bad mentioned here about the 360--and when there is something bad mentioned--it gets banned/removed from the site--just like this one will--but none the less--the people are allowed to have their own opinion--but-and this is a big but!!!!---they need to post about games and consoles and keep alot of their opinion to themselves--and give us --the consumer--that "pay" to view their site for well biased opinions--and they arent giving any good reviews to ps3--even though the games are port overs like fear and enchanted arms--looks better on the ps3 but yet they dog it like it was the worst game they ever played--8.1 for one console and a 6.9 for the other just because its on the ps3-same game but yet less rating--shows that too much bias is for xbox360---

@ allreginas: Just out of curiosity, I went to the Xbox 360 and PS3 pages to see what fun I'm missing. I found a gigantic deluge of shooter games and sports games along with the occasional RTS, for the most part... in other words, the sorts of games that I always play on my PC. If that floats your boat, fine. I prefer the Wii for the completely unique and different gaming experience that it offers, however.

Reason why it doesn't say 360 it is because the 360 is already a lost in Japan. The only two left in Japan is Nintendo and Sony. As for the article itself not surprising that is out selling it 5 to 1. But then again the Wii is not in the same market as 360 and PS3. Nintendo is in a market of its own who could careless about the hardcore gamer. This is just all part of the Wii's mo. Lets face it there are more casual gamers out there than us hardcore gamers that is why the wii is selling. That is why the Wii have some of the simplest games ever but i think it will come back to haunt them in the long run.

saying that the Wii is amazing nd will kick ass and win is complete nonsense considering that nether the x360 or ps3 hav had their limits reached by game development and so far no1 has seen what the two consoles are capable of because we hav to consider their libraries, especialy the ps3, are quite shabby, and for everyone that enjoy the wii just because u can "pretend" to throw a bowling ball or something else for $200+ can get outside and experience the actual thing and thats why the wii will never really suceed cuz its based of simple childish thrils that u can get in ur back yard

The biggest losers so far are third party developers. This generation has been very slow so far. The success of the Wii and DS reflects Japan losing interest in the traditional style of gaming and are craving for anything new; no matter its quality.

Wow, I can remember back a year or so ago when it was predicted that Sony and MS would dominate the market with their next-gen systems, leaving Nintendo in a distant 3rd. MS has always had a hard time selling in Japan, but it now appears as though Sony (once a very strong console company in Japan), is finding it tough to compete with Nintendo. Looking at these recent figures, it seems as though much of those predictions were dead wrong. Good for Nintendo. I'm glad that they are doing well. Competition does drive innovation. So it's always good to see other console companies doing well since we, the consumers, will get more innovative games, etc.

Stammalamma, your sarcasm doesn't hold any validity here. gamespot IS indeed providing unbiased news in this article. if you missed it, it qoutes bloomberg, who in turn quotes famitsu. gamespot is not coming up with these figures out of nowhere. like it or not, nintendo is selling more hardware than its competitors.

Maybe Mario Galaxy will be all that, but frankly- it doesn't look like something that the GameCube couldn't handle. So those of us who get questioned (like by MDX) about whether power and graphics makes a system... let me ask this- Why the heck didn't Nintendo just make a controller add-on for the GameCube and make a RJ45 adapter for it- if hardware doesn't matter...? Answer that. The GameCube was so poorly supported by Nintendo..and then to turn around with GameCube 1.5 hardware and call it a "new system" due to a motion sensor controller? Wow... I'll tell ya- you got to hand it to Nintendo's marketing department- cuz frankly, it shows that P.T. Barnum might be right after all... "There's a sucker born every minute."

PS3 and 360 have no place to go... nothing new to offer.. The Wii is killing them and they have not even gotten their online games off yet.. nor have they used the graphics and controller to the full potential. Once Smash Bros Brawl comes out.. all of this will change. Smash Bros will own the holiday season... it will beat Halo 3, Heavenly Sword, FF etc.. But the suprise game that will draw in more games is Mario and Sonic Olympics.. It will be Wii Sports on steroids.

Only thing is X-2tha-z, is that casuals aren't ADHD like hardcore gamers and don't sell games/ systems after owning them for a couple months. they buy it, play it occasionally or when friends are over, and that's that.

Nintendo are back where they feel they belong on top but will it continue. With Smash Bros Brawl hopefully online then it should sell plenty more than the XBox360 and PS3. Nothing is changing and it might not do for a few months but it needs to sell well when Halo 3 comes out.

I'm sure those numbers will be different on the month were MGS4 or FFXIII comes out in Japan.

I like my Wii, but aside Zelda and Super Paper Mario (originally Gamecube titles) there ain't much that interests me. I mainly bought the system for the VC component. I would however never only own a Wii. It's too limiting.

It's simple mathematics-the Wii is less expensive than the PS3, therefore more people can afford to buy it. Sony made a mistake in overloading the PS3 with features and not being able to sell it at a competitive price-I doubt they will repeat it in the next generation. I am still going to enjoy my PS3 no matter how many units it sells-the same goes for my Xbox 360 and (hopefully) soon-to-be-obtained Wii.

Good news for Nintendo. I think they've marketed to casual gamers too much. Most people who are buying a Wii will probably play Wii sports until they get bored of it then sell the console.

Ninny's gotten back after N64 and GC failure. Props to them! just keep it up is all I can say. They're going to need it by the time Metal Gear and Final Fantasy arrive.

Doesn't surprise me at all that the Wii is outselling the PS3, but i doubt it will last. The Wii is a fad, and it will fade sooner than later. I don't know if the 360 or the PS3 will win this generation, but I'm sure as hell the Wii wont.

Allreginas: You seem to be one of those people who tend to associate fun with cute. So are you one of the people who tend to associate fun with blood? XD At this point, it seems that only a good case of Deus Ex Machina is going to save Sony Computer Entertainment.

Until the Wii gets online head to head play for most of its games, its still a little-kid system to me. (And yes, I own one.) It's going to be very hard for this system to keep its footing in every part of the world except Japan, where they are backarsewords about online play. Also, as long as it relies on the occasional, twice a year app from Nintendo...and has to settle for ports from the "big boy consoles"- its going to be GameCube all over again..except with a gimmick controller. Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on Nintendo, but they need to step up and quit making the same mistakes- particularly about online. 16 year old game downloads can only sustain so many people for so long. This system is hot out of the gate, but where will it be when the 360 and PS3 hardware start showing their stuff versus what Nintendo has? The gap is already wide visually- but what about in a year and a half. Will little Johnny still be that geeked up about playing games that look like XBOX games with a tweak or two?

It's just an impulse buy, one out of every 6 people knows that! ------------------------------------------------- Why of course it is. Becasue 360 and PS3 are "real" consoles. Nintendo knows nothing about gaming do they??? They should just get their "kddy" selves out of the industry so people like YOU can kiss Sony and Microsoft's behinds!!! Right? So Sony and microsoft can tell us HD is the future and re-hash and re-sell things that a PC can do and do better than any console. Right? And of cousre charge $400-$600 for it and call it cheap. Again.. it is clear.. Consumers/gamers are not stupid. No one wants the same stuff with the 360 and PS3. They dont want "next gen" systems in the PS3 and 360. They want the NEW GENERATION system... the Wii. Argue about it as much as you want.. The Wii has succeeded already in transforming the industry. In my opinion.. Wii Sports is better than any game that has come out on the 360 or PS3 thus far. The Innovation is second to none and it is super fun.
