[QUOTE="someNONSENSE"]Red Dead Redemption - regular edition (X360) New $55inkwolf
I just wanted to say that I have never really been interested in the whole "western" thing. I didn't play "cowboys and indians" as a kid. I'm a sci-fi and fantasy kinda guy. Also, as far as RockStar goes, I don't own any of the GTA games. The open world aspect seems awesome, but again, I just don't like the whole "mobster" genre thing it has going.
Despite all of that, I am freaking stoked about Red Dead Redemption. It looks fan-f'ing-tastic. I've watched reviews and gameplay videos and I want to play this game almost more than I want to play Demons' Souls. Like I said, I've never liked "westerns", but this game alone is turning my opinion around on that. Not that I'm gonna start watching old episodes of Gunsmoke (although I wouldn't mind playing more Gun.Smoke :P), but I can definately see myself getting hard-core into this game world. I cannot wait to play it.
On the one hand, Red Dead is an exciting and immersive game with tons to do. But on the other hand, I played today and got more frustrated with the gameplay than I have for any game in a long time. Coralling wild horses. The mission seemed to be broken. It took over an hour, you can't save in the middle, the mission had multiple parts, and you never knew when the mission would end, and then failure after failure because I didn't understand what I was supposed to do with the controller. Eventually I figured out that I have to continue holding the left trigger, while holding the right trigger, and then right shoulder and Y. Very clunky. The Journal that is provided was also vague, they didn't mention that you can't let go of the left trigger. So much for fun gameplay.
Another thing that annoyed me was that text would appear at the top of the screen explaining the controls or mission expectations in small font and would disappear before I had a chance to finish reading it.
Also annoying, today I discovered a new area, killed a bunch of animals, collected their pelts, and on my way to cash in, there was a robbery that I happened upon. So I thought I would jump in and try to foil the robbery. I shot one of the robbers and within 2 seconds I was shot dead by the rest of the gang. When gameplay started up again, there was no record of the new area I discovered or any of the animals I killed.
Oh yeah, one more thing: not only did I not get even a 5 point achievement for completing the horse coralling mission, after 4.5 hours of gameplay I still only had one 10 pt achievement.
These kinds of Rockstar choices ruin the fun. You mean I can't go and have some fun trying to foil a robbery and still get rewarded for all the exploration and hunting I did?!? Rockstar: on the one hand you're brilliant but on the other hand you're idiots.
Inkwolf, I think you will be happier with this game if you purchase it for less money.
