The first rule of the CCU is not to talk about Fight Club. Or Drake. ;) Shame, actually, because I really enjoyed the movie FC and was hoping the game would be good.

Mail Time!!

-GoldenEye 007 (N64) cart only-$17.96.

Did I overpay? Heck yes I did. But I really like GoldenEye, and I need some more N64 games. It's one of the systems I have the fewest games for.

jollyroger78

yes, you very much overpaid... oh well...

I suppose it doesn't look any better if you take $4 off for shipping?

only if it was complete...

[QUOTE="CodingGenius"]Jollyroger78, I have tried Soul Calibur 2, but for some reason I never really got into it. :( I did prefer the characters and play control to Tekken and DOA.jollyroger78

Fair enough. I wasn't crazy about Soul Calibur II (even though I've played the crap out of all three versions). I liked Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast much better. I also really liked Virtua Fighter 4.

Of course, there is always Fight Club...;)

I'm not a soul calibur fan either... fight club is aweful... I discovered an extra 10% off coupon in the "free, take one" mag at my local EB Games store and with my EB Edge card I managed to get some good game deals:

Ridge Racer 6 for $14.57
Prey for $21.86
Ninety Night Nights for $21.86

All in excellent condition.

So for the price of a new Xbox 360 game, I got three used ones. Not bad if I do say so myself.

I have not been posting my new aquisitions lately as they are mostly PSP,DS and GBA games for which I have paid unspectacular prices for. Of note though:
I was happy to finally get God Hand, new for $25
Metal Gear Solid Digital Comic new for $14
Gunstar Super Heroes new for $9.99
Also, with my replacement 360, I got a free copy of NFS:MW
which came with a disc and manual but no case, leaving to wish I had bought more of those happy meal games just for the extra cases.

Of these, I will probably only open MGSDC.

We finally sold our house, so I went up to gather the last of the stuff we left behind.  Various misadventures ensued, (which I'll probably elaborate on when the CCU Week in Review volume 3 thread opens up) but here's what I picked up along the way.

Games4Less
Willow (NES) $9 - Cart only
Fist of the North Star (GB) $9 - Cart only

GameStop
Crystalis (GBC) $5 - Cart only
Summon Night (GBA) $19

Best Buy
Castlevania (DS) $29
Genesis Collection (PS2) $14

Thanks goes out to A_P's article for compelling me to pick up Willow; now I'll judge for myself if the game really is better than the movie. :P

And while Fist of the North Star is still pretty sweet - it wasn't nearly as much fun as I remember.  Crystalis still rox my sox though.

I went to Circuit City today and saw Genji: Dawn of the Samurai (PS2) for $29.  One of their copies even had a price tag of $39.  I thought, "gee I should have gotten this when I saw it at Best Buy for ten bucks" (like I noticed some other CCU members did).

Then I thought, "ho ho! I could have Circuit City price match against Best Buy!"

So I took the forty dollar copy up to customer service, told them I saw the same game for ten bucks at Best Buy, and thanks to their 110% of the difference price match policy, got the game for about seven bucks.

Fist of the North Star (GB) $9 - Cart onlyinkwolf

I found my receipt for this.  It was actually five bucks, not ten.  I remember the price sticker on it was $9 though.

Castlevania (DS) $29inkwolf

I should have mentioned this was Dawn of Sorrow, not Portrait of Ruin.

Yeah, that was pretty much my take on it after I popped it in my GBA.  I bought it because I borrowed it from a friend years ago in high school and I thought I remembered having fun with it.  Maybe my pain threshold was higher back then. :P

Unless you want the NES one as simply another game in your collection, then don't bother. I have played most of the Hokuto no Ken games of old and all of them are really bad for the most part. I'm so glad Arc System Works is releasing an actual good HnK game for PS2 at the end of March. I have had it preordered for at least a month now and I'm so excited to get it and play it!

I bought a AV Cable for my Sega Master System II. I couldn't play it before cos that cable was broken but now I can even plug it into AV inputs and not have my TV Searching for the System for 5 minutes every time I have to swap the console. It was $9.95 AU which is pretty expensive for a cable but I really wanted to start playing the Mega Drive again and it's cheaper than buying the system again. Now I gotta figure out what games I should search for it :)

I received D2 on Japanese Dreamcast in the mail today; it is complete with spine and reg cards and mint save for a pair of broken teeth on the spindle for disc 3. It's the cover that most resembles the U.S. release. I paid $14.75 shipped for it. Also, God help me, I finally got Xbox Live last night so that I could download the extra content for Oblivion. I bought:

The Wizard's Tower
The Thieves Den

The Orrery
Mehrune's Razor
The Vile Lair
Spell Tomes
Knights of the Nine

in that order, and I've finished all the quests in everything bolded. This was mostly precipitated by me having two quest-related glitches (one that annoyed, one that froze the game) and hearing about a free patch over XBL that corrected both. The patch worked and I like the game so much that afterwards, I went for the extra stuff. In addition, so that I don't have to unplug my cable modem, etc., I picked up a workgroup switch and enough cabling to have my computer, my wife's computer and the 360 online at the same time.

I might get Horse Armor later, but I travel on foot everywhere in the game anyway, and the last time Shadowmere didn't respawn near me, I stopped caring.

My handle there is the same as it is here, and I signed up for a Silver membership, but then got a free month of Gold, after confirming that I wasn't going to pay for it.

[QUOTE="gakon5"]For the first time I walked into GameXChange, a used / old game store near where I live. And just about the only place I know of near my house that sells old games. Going to have to check in there more often, 'cuz they have a ton of stuff. While I was there, aquired: Balloon Fight - NES - Cart only - $6.95 Metal Gear - NES - Cart only - $6.95 Ninja Gaiden - NES - Cart only - $4.95 Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Boxed w/manual - $4.95 They also had two Sega Saturns for $29.95 each there, and I'm tempted to buy one of them, but it seems like I could get a better deal on eBay, where I'd be getting some games bundled with the console. Their rack of Saturn games was also a bit limited; about a dozen games - all sports. So there were a ton of NES, SNES, and Genesis games there, along with some Dreamcast and Saturn stuff. They also had some of those creepy NES / Famicom combo unit things, and a good dozen $0.95 games for the 5200. If I had an Atari 5200, I probably would have bought them all... And lastly I (finally) aquired a 1600 MS Points card; I've already bought Geometry Wars, and now it's a toss-up between Assault Heroes and Heavy Weapon. Can't decide...

nice nabs!

I'm gonna start re-purchasing some N64 games. I sold the console, a few controllers and like 6 or more games incl. Mario Kart and OoT (which I didn't like, but could of sold it for more) all for $20, I took my second 64 and a few controllers and sterring wheel too at the same time, but they didn't take it, thank god at least i've still got the consoles and a few controllers ( not all buttons work though I think). I don't somehow feel right spending all this money on buying 64 games when the sequels are coming to Wii and I could just get a Wii then. But I come see you guys and you spend HEAPS everyday so I feel a little better :P

Where is this Game Xchange of which you speak???

You live in Indy? I think it's an independantly-owned store, not like a chain.

Illinois actually...but there are three Game Xchanges here.  Champaign, Springfield and Bloomington.  I wonder if they're related...

Oooooohh... dude. Didn't know that. So there are others.

Game Xchange is a big regional chain.  I've found them in Oklahoma and Missouri also.

$30 for a Saturn seem like a decent deal provided the system is in excellent working condition and it comes with the controller and the appropriate cables.

[QUOTE="gakon5"]There are also several boxed copies of NiGHTS into Dreams, with the analog pad and everything. I keep telling myself that if I buy one of those Saturn consoles I'd take one of the copies of NiGHTS. How is that game? These quotes are massive!

I think NiGHTs is a must-play if you get a Saturn.

I agree about NiGHTS. Also, you forget that getting that console on eBay will also cost you a decent amount of money just for shipping. The savings from that is well worth getting it locally instead! You should do it!

Yeah, and for me that's the most exciting part about finding a brick-and-mortar store that sells old games and maybe old consoles. I'm not paying as much for the item as I am for shipping.

Just to put it in perspective, the recent white Saturn I got off of eBay cost me $30 just for the shipping.
