Doesnt the career mode also build your level up? I am level 19 I think in the game and I think it translates to an overall level like it does with Forza 3?Garfield360UK

No, that's your offline rank.
This determines how teams see you.

Your online rank is different.

It really ain't that hard, I'm almost Rank 40 with a breeze, nearly 140 wins, I just leave if people are being douche's, One guy did get right on my nerves so after all his sideswiping on me preventing past, I just....kindly outbraked myself into him, and went on to have a great duel with the guy in front. Which I one cleanly :D :)kipi19

Well, not hard but very long and boring!
1000000 XP took a long time!

Ya rank 42 is only halfway  I wish they gave you a better exp breakdown after each race or something so you feel like your getting somewhere lol.

Went back and played some F1 the other day. After not playing since GT5 came out. Oh man it sure is strange, not used to so much grip and braking powa! I won a few races, but I think the game glitched and put my win totals online from 185ish to 352 lmao, has that happened to anyone else?

Ya who knows how well the games tracker works  That's why it would be nice if there was a post race update (exp gained and whatnot) and not have to back out all the way to check to leaderboards. And that doesn't even update in a timely manner.

It's not big deal but it's just kind of sucks my stat is ruined/fake.

So, they should fire the stats guy on this game. Not only do they say Sutil took 2nd on the grid in Australia 2009 (That was Barrichello), but Montoya supposedly set the lap record for Turkey in 2004 - a whole year before the circuit even made its F1 debut!

It probably is the same time the AI got when the game started out, i.e. not real.

That said with my bashing it is a good game, heck I did one season on it which makes it one of the most played racers of this year for me other than Forza Motorsport 3.

 just got kicked from a lobby because I won the race. Was gonna end up second but the guy in first was unlucky to be caught up in a backmarker's spin which I avoided. Some people are REALLY sad.

Gotta love it lol. I remember seeing too, if you just join a lobby and your the highest level people will try to kick you. But ya I agree too some people in this game are really sad. It's particularly frustrating when you race people super clean, and then in return they race you dirty......

On the flip side of the coin I've made a few friends on F1 online cause of clean racing and a lot of complements for having speed and clean driving 8)

Clean driving is rare, especially when with Redders. Say whhhhaaaaaat?

But yeah thats why I avoid racing games unless with friends online as some try and ruin the fun either using over powered cars in the competition (i.e. you may pick E group cars on PGR and somebody goes with an A group car) or you get the ramers who refuse to allow anybody to pass them, the quiters who quit usually after pulling the stunts previously mentiond, or you get the people who drive backwards like on GRID and ram you. Very frustrating.

At least with me it's an accident when I hit someone! Then again, has been happening less often in recent times. I've made a few more friends yesterday racing against some guys who are uber tough!

Qualify 5th out of 9 in a group where everyone has a higher ranking than me, and some got dry quali laps whereas I had to do mine in extreme rain.

The patch really did turn the game around, and I think my shock at how different it was to F1 on the Playstation was overcome after a while. It deserves it although I would have been happy to see Fifa 11 get the award as well as that game is also very well made.

GT5???
dabest2500

I assume there is a racing game category as well as sports (although both F1 and GT5 have licenses). I just feel disapointed with GT5, there are a lot of patches suggesting the game was not ready which is a bit dubious given how long the development cycle for that game was. Also it felt like the developers had not played any other racing games since GT4 came out given the lack of options for online from the get go. However that is a different story. GT5 and all the games I mention are good games at the very least I feel so its good to see them getting recognition.

There isn't, just a sports category.
Would you rather wait for GT5 to be finished or have it released as it is with constant updates?
I feel it's better this way.
I'm just glad that a racing game won, instead of a football game (hate that sport).

I would like a game that feels finished when it comes out rather than large updates that fix what should have been ready from the off. I like they are supporting the game, don't get me wrong, but the fixes are things that should have been in the game from the off.

I like the game but I feel others have surpased the series since GT4 came out. There is too much grinding and as I have said, it feels like Gran Turismo did not look at what Grid, Forza and others have been doing with the online and career modes. Sure GT5 has the larger car list but it also comes at a cost when only 20% of those cars are able to use an in car view and they also happen to be the more expensive cars in the game causing more grinding.

The grinding is terrible for sure.
But would you really wait a few more years for PD to finish the game?
Also, 200 cars with in car views is quite a lot.
People have been use to not having in car view in GT4, so why complain now?

Because it should be available, I mean Forza, Grid, Dirt, Need for Speed etc can do it so I dont see why Gran Turismo could not have a standard interior if they were pushed into it. I agree 200 is a lot but I feel Polophony Digital tried to do more than was feesable. I would prefer 100 different cars (so no 99' and 00' version of the same car or one with a different racing livery and tuning set up which seems to count as different cars both by Gran Turismo and Forza) with onboard camera, full damage modeling rather than "oh this car looks bad because its not a premium and the damage modeling does not happen and I can not use my prefered camera view to drive on this game".

I dont think PD have spent the time as well as perhaps they could have. It seems a lot of content was recycled from Gran Turismo 4 which makes me ask what exactly have they being doing for all those years. Forza 2 and 3 came out inbetween the gap of GT4 and GT5, heck two years passed between GT5P and GT5 and little in changes in 2 years, in some cases (online and onboard camera) they have actually gone backwards.

The studio is very creative and talented, and I like they have a vision for this game, but there needs to be some realism in what they try to create rather than throwing everything and the kitchen sink at a game to have others do some features better whilst the game is years into a development cycle.

PD wasted those years away by trying to perfect everything, the menus are over complicated too.
But for the Standard cars, I think of it as, 200 Premium cars, + 800 normal cars.

I agree although I think of it as 200 good cars and 800 that were rushed out/copy and paste jobs.

I think there might have been pressure from Sony or maybe just PD to break that 1000 cars barrier. Cause it's good for marketing. "OMFG 1000+ CARS!!" The non-premium cars look like they've been copy and pasted from GT4 with a slight facelift to look ok in HD. And I wouldn't doubt that's what they did.

Personally I wish they didn't waste time on dumb cars as premiums (ie electric cars that do 75mph) but looking at it from PD's perspective they seem to be more about love for the car (why they have a lot of classic but useless cars 99% of people don't care about) and driving, not racing.

Kinda off topic but I wish Japanese developers in general could take notes on how the west implements online play. GT5 and just about every other Japanese developed game that has online is an absolute wreck, it feels ancient.

For the next game PD just needs to adapt a less is more policy. Using common sense and what majority of gamers want. Sure PD put a lot of time and detail into things and it shows their love for cars but certain things it just seems like time wasted.

I agree Schumi F1. Perhaps more of the special events and a career mode similar to Forza would have been nice. Get rid of the license tests as well, as personally to me what you do in races is what matters in a game. The extra cars are a nice little bonus but as you say little point to them. Maybe have a couple of them for special events and online events but not at the expense of cars people are more likely to use.

I wish that the end game was better too, cause all it seems you can do is endurance races, and while some are fun the longer ones just aren't viable for people, like me that will only race a few hours a day and it will end up taking days to complete. I don't want to keep my PS3 on for days straight. I think end game races would be helped massively by a better AI, actually making the races tougher or just making the restrictions very tight to keep things competitive. Or develop a system where the game notices how powerful a car you are using and will give you more/less exp and money based on the car you race with.

I like that in GT5 they made licences not required to progress to higher races. I guess to help the casual players not have to pull their hair out that they can't do certain races because a high license is required. But the level thing is basically the same thing, just more of a grind. So they kind of went 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

I guess to keep things on thread topic, more people will probably be playing F1 2010 online with the F1 season starting soon. I'll probably play that again so I can get that damn level 50 achievement

Thank you :)

I keep diving in/out of F1 (or otherwise playing Burnout Paradise), just get annoyed with people that confuse F1 2010 for Burnout Paradise, beens as they keep driving in to me on that - whereas they can't keep up on Burnout! (Then again, that'd be because me and my mate make tracks 15 mins long  ).

Other than that, Uni work is really keeping me from enjoying my gaming. I look forward to midday on 10th May, when I'm free of Uni until October!

It will probably be the same story with the new game. I just hope it is worked effectivly and not some overpowered nitros type thing from Need for Speed.

Sorry to bring back this GT5 vs. F1 thingy, but I *crouches behind chair* think F1 2010 is the better game.As realistic as GT5 is, I think it is far too backwards looking. Not saying it's bad in any way, it's my second favourite driving game after F1 2010, but F1 2010 is so much more focussed on the whole experience around driving, whereas in GT5 the only thing to do is race, and 30 hours in, I really do not want to do any races longer than 1hr 30, let alone 9 hours round Tsukuba.

On F1 2011, I read something in the Playstation Magazine (Granted, a while back) that this might be another Wii/ PSP release, as it's rumoured to be coming out on the NGP. But, then again, people have been porting PS3 games straight onto NGP (Metal Gear Solid 4, if that works anything will!) and they work fine, so maybe a PS3/Xbox/PC/NGP release then? If so, cross-platform multiplayer between NGP and PS3 would be awesome!
