Lmao, a Formula Gran Turismo at the Sunday Cup. That is more than just overkill.

That car just showed up in my used car lot but I don't have enough money :?  And yea the B-Spec drivers seem to be more dumb than a sack of rocks. It's like the car you give him has to be twice as good as the others for him to even have a chance to win, it can be really annoying.

I let my B-Spec do a race around Daytona once in the Formula Gran Turismo, he came second to last after continuously braking and lifting off when going for an overtake :(

What colour was the FGT btw?
Apparently, you can only get it in blue...

If anyone gets a different colour for the FGT, be sure to get evidence (photo, recording etc) of it.

Which is why you can simply bring an overpowered car, bringing a Formula Gran Turismo to the Sunday Cup for example would blow the AI away.
This is what I do in B Spec due to my driver being so bad.

True however that requires a lot of grinding to get the cash needed to get a good car to do such a thing. That takes time itself.

But you don't want to finish the game that quickly do you?
If all races and cars were available straight away that would be no good.

That is not what I am saying should be the case, I am saying give people the chance to rewind in a race if they want to (like other games do) so you can correct a mistake and not spend ages doing the same race over and over.

It will teach you to not make mistakes and drive more cautiously.
It will also help you get to know the car better.

I've just finished the Indy 500 Endurance Race in my Formula Gran Turismo.
It was the most boring 200 laps of my life.
I was living in fear of my PS3 freezing.
What's interesting is that after a while, my car and other cars looked like their rear wings were falling off, maybe G-Force?

I agree with Garfield. F1 2010 was quite hard at bits, and the option to flashback after an unforseen accident was a game saver for me. Doing Sunday Cup races with a Formula Gran Turismo would just kill all the fun, as you're not racing, you just have to drive 2 laps round a track. I would prefer a close, fun race.

Yeah. Thats what I mean really. It would be nice for a choice is all I am saying, not everybody should use it nor should everbody not use it. Just to have it as an option would have been nice.

Also I hear there is another patch for the game, any idea what the patch does as I believe the first one was for improving the online side and the second was to sort some of the mechanical damage gameplay out.

But then you would constantly push yourself over the limit, just because you know you have something to fall back on.
It encourages risk free mistakes.

50 Stunning GT5 Photomode Interior Screenshots & How-To Take Your Own

As you've probably discovered by now, Gran Turismo 5's Photomode feature can be surprisingly fun and addictive. You've probably also noticed, however, that you can't easily take a pictures of a car's interior – until now. GTPlanet user IeGI has discovered an easy way of getting the camera "inside" a premium car, and he's shared a detailed set of instructions here in our forums so you can do the same.

The resulting shots, taken by him and other users which you'll see in the gallery below, are nothing short of spectacular and some of the most impressive Photomode images I've seen from the game. It is a beautiful showcase of the careful attention to detail given to premium car's interiors – and makes it all the more perplexing as to exactly why Polyphony Digital has not made it easy to take interior Photomode shots in the first place.

Yes I think the patch should be coming out tomorrow (20th) but not sure. Its meant to be a big update, don't know all the details, I know they are adding a replay function and the ability to back up your save.

We will also be able to download 3 free cars on the 24th, sort of a christmas gift from Polyphony Digital. So far its only available in Japan not sure if its rolling out worldwide

Nice update there, online cash is nice. Although have they fixed the ability to get cars of your own range rather than my experience where I got my Honda Civic Type R thrown in with Nascar racing cars, WRC cars etc which kind of broke my enjoyment of the game.

Fair enough, it would be nice as an option to get more people into the game as it would ease people into the game and its would be best as optional like Forza, F1 etc but each to their own.

Gran Turismo 5 v1.05 Update Brings New Events & More, Available Now

The latest update to Gran Turismo 5, version 1.05, was made available just a few hours ago and weighs in at 608MB. Here's a quick, official summary of all the new changes, but users are discovering a few more new tweaks in our forums as well:

  • Seasonal Events: [Seasonal Events] have been added to the [GT Mode] – [GT Life] screen. From here you can participate in official online events from the Polyphony Digital team. In these events, all participants are under the same regulations, and if you complete the event you will win rewards and experience. Compete on the leader boards with players around the world, in Time Trials and Drift Trials!
  • Online Collector's Dealership: An [Online Collector's Dealership] has been added to the left and centre of the [GT Mode]-[GT Life] screen. In here you will find popular and rare cars. You might just come across that one car you've always been looking for, that you haven't been able to find in the [Used Car Dealership].
  • Online Race Rewards and Experience: When you complete a race in the [Open Lobby] or [My Lounge], you will now gain rewards and experience points. Even if you are focused more on playing online, you'll still be able to gain rewards and levels that you need to progress in [GT Life].
  • Driving Distance and Number of Wins in Online Races: The driving distance and the number of wins you achieve when you complete a race in [Open Lobby] or [My Lounge] will now affect your stats in [Profile] and the [Garage]. Here the results from your online play will cumulate within [GT Life].
  • Improved Rewards: The rewards for winning races in both A-Spec and B-Spec in [GT Mode]-[GT Life] have been increased for a limited time only. (This applies until the end of January 2011.) This is a great chance for those who were previously having difficulties getting ahead in the game, due to a lack of funds for tuning and purchasing required cars.
  • Race Information Display: It is now possible to set the [Race Info Display] in [Start]-[Quick Options]. (You can also set this in [Race Display] in [Options]).
  • Save Data Backup: You can now copy and restore your save data. For details, please refer to the in-game [Manual].
  • User BGM (Menu): From [Options]-[Hardware]-[Audio Settings], it is now possible to set the [User BGM] (Menu)]. (This can also be set from the [Music Library] within [GT Mode]).
  • Car Name Change:  The official name of "Red Bull X1″ has been changed to the "Red Bull X2010″.
  • Integration with the Website: The main features within [GT Mode]-[Community] can now also be accessed through the "gran-turismo.com" official website.
  • [Important Note:] We have made improvements to the [Log] within [GT Mode]- [Community] section, in order to make its operation more stable. Please note that the information that was contained here from before the update has been reset.

MORE UPDATES:

  • The license test menus have been streamlined. After winning a bronze or silver trophy, for example, you have the option to immediately restart the test without having to sit through the animation sequence. (Thanks, Alex.)
  • GT Academy USA has now been listed in the new Seasonal Events (I'm writing up a full post on this now).
  • Mechanical damage has now been implemented in the game's "Practice Mode" – the first time the feature has been usable outside of the custom online events.

One interesting thing to note is that today, December 20th, was set to be the launch date of the US GT Academy. However, as of writing there is no mention of this in the latest update, though presumably it may appear in the new "Seasonal Events" later. Stay tuned for more, and thanks to all who sent this in so quickly!

Quick update from what I've done today.
I updated GT5 and completed all the ridiculously easy Seasonal Events. Not going to complain though, I got a lot of XP and cash for free.
I'm also glad XP has been increased, now I will have to grind less.
I am also level 29. 400,000 XP till level 30.

I made BHP the max and weight the min.
Then I bought all tuning parts (flywheel carbon propeller shaft etc.) and all aero parts.
So everything possible.
I didn't fine tune anything either, apart from the gearing on the Challenger one. The top speed was too low.
I didn't find out till later, but i also had Skid Recovery on.

I attempted the last one first as it gave the most money and XP.

TC was 5 and ABS was 1.
According to GTPlanet, the brakes in GT5 lock up to easily.
So ABS on 1 is equal to ABS on 0 in real life.
Good luck, not that you'll need it ;)

Today's update, I've redone the Indy 500 (took turns with my brother in the FGT in exchange to let him use the PS3) for XP and am now 100,000 XP away from level 30.

I can't remember, I think it was just under 2 hours 30 minutes.
During my endless grinding, I found a way using the FGT to shave a whole second of your lap time, take the inside track.
It's the bit where the cars drive after coming out of the pits, that little inside bit that has enough room for one car is in every corner, just drive in that.
Touch the grass though, and you will spin.

Another 600MB Update? I am getting it on Saturday, and I'm not looking forward to installing 10 GB, then waiting whilst it downloads a few big updates. How big were the others, and do you think that they could all be intergrated into this one patch?

I've done it!
I've won the Red Bull X1!
I started with Monza where I got Bronze by 3 seconds, I got Bronze in Suzuka by 0.3 seconds and Bronze in the Nurbugring by 0.048 seconds.
Monza took 10 minutes to Bronze, Suzuka took 20 minutes to Bronze, and Nurburgring took me 40 minutes to Bronze.
It was really hard, when I first turned the wheel, I was amazed at how responsive it was, it was crazy!

The rewards for Bronze got me from level 30 to level 31 with some XP to spare!

Modify Your Logitech DFGT Pedals For More Resistance

Youtube - PS3 Logitech Wheel Bungie Cord Pedal Mod

One of the most frequent complaints about the popular Logitech Driving Force GT is the pedals. The brake, in particular, can be quite "squishy", making it more difficult to accurately gauge the force being applied. Since the DFGT was released, several popular DIY mods have been shared in our forums, but this one is probably my favorite: simply wrap a small bungie cord around the brake pedal and hook it around the base of the unit, as YouTuber megadarren demonstrates above (thanks, TRC_Hunk).

Of course, there are many variations to this setup, or you can engineer something that's a bit more complicated. Regardless, with many of us here in the United States exposed to serious competition in GT Academy for the first time, more sim racers than ever before have a renewed interest in getting the most out of their equipment. Have you modified your wheel or pedal assembly? Share your ideas below or head on over to our steering wheels forum for more in-depth discussion.

Snow Flurries on Gran Turismo 5's Nurburgring (Video)

Youtube -Snow On The Nürburgring 24h GT5

Several GTPlanet users have noticed new and interesting weather on GT5's Nurburgring: non-accumulating snow flurries. GT-R_EMOKID offers the video above as proof, and, sure enough, it does appear to be snowing. User Pingwhen also reports having seen these conditions, randomly (and rarely) in online races.

While the lack of accumulation means you probably won't be re-creating this great YouTube clip anytime soon, the snow flurries look great and are a common occurrence in the Nurburgring's Eifel mountain climate. Unfortunately, the game does not appear to perform well when the snow appears, suggesting it is probably an unintended glitch.

GT5 B-Spec "Remote Races" Coming Early February

One of the more interesting and unusual GT5 features announced before release was "Remote Races" (also known as "Gran Turismo Anywhere"), enabling you to control your B-Spec races on your PS3 from your PC or mobile device. Obviously, this was missing from the game when it shipped last November, and its future has been uncertain – despite the fact that it remains listed (with this screenshot) on Polyphony Digital's official GT5 feature list.

Now, however, Kazunori Yamauchi has finally confirmed via Twitter the feature will be available in "early February". It is unknown if enabling this functionality will require another update of the game, but considering v1.05 is nearly a month old already, this may be the target release date for the next revision. Regardless, though, it looks like this update won't be coming soon enough for participants of the B-Spec-based Signature Edition Challenge.

Thanks to Rob Groove for the tip!

So the other day I found out the hard way there is a credit limit in GT5 at 20 million. I had 19.6 million credits, did the last of the newest seasonal events that gives you 1.5 million for gold. I get gold and a message comes up saying I've reached the credit limit and I had to eat 1.1 million fml....

Seasonal events are so good, got me from level 20 to 23 in one day.

I spend hours on end with my friends at school at this online, so much fun, even go-karts round the Nurburgring hasn't got old yet.

Oh yeah, if I remember correctly, in GT4, you could fast forward B-Spec races. If they bring that back, I'm in for B-Spec.

Next month you will be able to play B-Spec from your PC so is its going to get a whole lot easier. No need to worry about your PS3 overheating.

Ya think of the remote play feature on the PS3. You can play anything on your PS3 via the PSP as long as your PSP has an internet connection.

Sony Holds Invite-Only Gran Turismo 5 Player Survey

According to several users in our forums, Sony has started sending out surveys inviting participants to "Help Gran Turismo 5 Stay on Top of Its Game". In addition to basic demographics, the questions are focused around your progress in the game, how much you've been playing it, and which in-game events you enjoy the most. The invitation email goes on to say "your opinions may change the way new games are created".

It's an interesting and somewhat odd set of questions, considering that Polyphony Digital already stores everyone's in-game progress in a centralized database, and Sony collects an untold amount of usage data through the PlayStation Network. Regardless, it's refreshing to see this sort of "official" interaction. As of now it is not clear how they are selecting participants.

I am interested to see how it was done though. If they have asked people who have put 100+ hours into the game then are they really going to turn around and say they did not like the game?
