For one. I know for a fact they make more money on selling gamecube hardware, than Wii hardware. Since the cost to make a gamecube is very cheap (It's 6 yr old technology). Wii is probably more than $200 to make.

Then they want you to have a gamecube so that you can get introduced to nintendo again or if you are curious to get into gaming but are afraid to spend big money so you get an introductory entry level console that has many great titles. In a few months when you get fond of all the wonderful Nintendo Characters, you will want to upgrade then anyways because you will want to find out what next gen is like. So in turn you will have just bought Nintendo's old technology and are a repeat customer all within few months/couple years.. Who can hold out long when there is a new console out anyways?

Ps. Twilight princess for Wii sucked because they made Link right handed. Left handers holler'.

I agree in part with you but IMO anyone who buy a Gamecube now(for $100) is crazy. For $150 more you can buy a Wii which comes witha free game. It can do everything the GC can do times 10.

So you're basically saying it's not a dead system just yet, and Nintendo and many of it's fans still support it in terms of production and sales? I'll agree that the system isn't dead yet, despite the questionable selection of upcoming games. While it's sales have really dropped, it still manages to sell at least 10,000 every month in the U.S. (and that'll probably increase in December), so it does get supported and people still play it, so to me that means it isn't dead yet.

I don't think the Wii version of TP sucked. The biggest difference was a mirrored world and characters, right? I don't mind that. I do prefer the GC version, however, because of camera control and my arms don't get sore.

Indeed, it's not going to be dead, until people stop selling used games on the internet or gamestop cuts off GC support. Then it will be dead. With all the great used titles it will be around years to come. Just like DC truely died two years after support stopped due to all the used games in circulation.

Also, $99 is a lot, but the Wii isn't 10 times better. You have to look at the big picture too. $99 for gamecube is one time and then you are going to find one hundred games that are $10 or less vs. $250 for wii and all games currently not selling for less and won't be less than $30-$50 a piece. Also an additional $150 is a lot and the free game doesn't justify it because I don't like wii sports or any of that. Will they bundle MP3? NO.

Yeah but you can play all those amazing GC games on the Wii, plus all the Wii games, and the downloadable games, and all the channels, and use the internet, etc. The Wii can do everythingthe GC doesand more and will have new games for 5 years. But if you buy a cheap GC off ebay or something it's not a bad deal. And I'm sure they will eventually bundle real games. I bought my GC when it was bundled with the original Metroid Prime at $150. Minus the $50 game and I basically payed $100 for my GC over 4 years ago; the same price it is now.

Also I want to point out that while the gamecube has been $100 for three years, the value goes back up over time since game prices drop and demand will rise and so the console demand will rise a bit too. In addition gamecube's will be harder to find and there are many collectors and people who just want an extra one so the $100 price is perfect. $79 would be better but why ruin a good thing? They don't want to devalue their products.

Also, when you say new games are coming out, most of it has been done. To those who can't get MP3, MP1/2 will do just fine and the only difference in games today are graphics, not gameplay and if you want great graphics get an xbox. If you want gameplay GC should do. If you care for motion controllers get a Wii. But I doubt that future games will have more appeal than current GC games. Why do I feel that a good number of people are using their GC controllers on their Wii? What's the purpose in that?

All I'm trying to say is that I think the Wii is a better investment for the future at $150. Don't murder me. It can play all GC games plus Wii stuff. That's what I meant by everything and more. Plus the 10X thing was just something I through out there. Don't take it so personally people...

I agree...Twilight princess for Wii sucked!

Yeah, it sucks because it has more accurate and comfortable control. Real strong argument there...

wait I remeber that bundle, wasn't it when MP was players choice?

No, it was in early 2003 I believe, not long after MP was released. You could choose between MP, RE0, and two other games all which retailed for $50 at the time.

The Wii can do everything the GC can? Last time I checked, the Broadband Adapter and Game Boy Player don't work on Wii.

The GB Player isn't a huge deal in my opinion. And the Broadband Adapter was supported by what, one game? The only reason they aren't supported is because the Wii doesn't have the same outdated ports. Give them a break.

I love it! Is that a reason to get the GameCube instead of the Wii?

Not only is the Broadband Adapter ridiculously expensive, it's also obsolete as the servers for the three online GameCube games went downon March 31st, 2007.

And the GameBoy Player is no longer manufactured. So even though you can buy one, I certainly wouldn't reccomend it if you don't like second-hand gear.

Maybe because they still make GC's? They want all their systems that are in stock to sell (Wii, DS, GBA, GC).

My recommendation is to go and get a GC NOW! Wait a year or two for Wii games to go down to $10 used prices and until then there are easily 100 great GC games to keep you busy. Not only that you will thank yourself later because you get to own a piece of wonderful Nintendo history. Check my gamecube list to see the better titles.

And I am all for that. Couldn't agree more. This'll be even better in the coming months when the GameCube inevitably drops in price again.

But just so I can reiterate my point to N33 again, the Broadband Adapter and GameBoy Player are not reasons in which to do so.

It's tricky if you wait for the console to drop in price. The used games go up in price because of their rarity. I noticed that games like Spiderman jumped up a few bucks ($6.99-$9.99) Spiderman 2 ($11.99-$19.99-$14.99) and so did some older cheapo games like Starfox adventures (went from $7.99 to $9.99) and Star Wars Rogue Leader too. Also it's getting hard to find great titles the longer you wait like Beyond Good and Evil. I want that game but it's $30 used.

I certainly wouldn't wait for the Gamecube's price to drop (although it inevitably will) to buy it. Games are going up in price and some are becoming very rare. Lots of people are buying Wii's who never owned Gamecubes. Many of those people are snatching up all the good Gamecube games. Right now I'm personally trying to buy all the Gamecube games I want now before the prices skyrocket even higher.

Bottom line: If you want to buy a Gamecube, buy a used one for cheap because you'll probably inevitably want to buy a Wii. I still say just go for the Wii because you'll want to buy one anyway, you might as well do it now. That's just my opinion though of course.

No. I came in here to correct Rocky32189 when he/she said the Wii can do everything the GC can.

I meant in terms of games not peripherals, especially one you can no longer use. And I certainly don't think you should get rid of your Gamecube after buying a Wii. I've had my Wii for five months but still own my Gamecube.

However, a much cheaper cost and tons of games that are actually good make the GC worth buying.

The Wii has plenty of good games with tons more coming as well as the virtual console games. This fall will be amazing for Wii. And it can still play all the amazing GC games as well. It will just cost you a bit more money. In my opinion it's worth it, though others may not agree.

The Broadband Adapter can still be used for LAN play in Mario Kart, Kirby Air Ride, and 1080 Avalanche.

The Wii only costs $150 to make... heck, it's pretty much an overclocked GC inside and they're selling it for $150 more - they're probably making more money off of the Wii.

Well... my Gamecube finally broke after the past 5 wonderful years, so instead of pay $99.99 for a brand new one or pay the $150.00 to get the old one fixed, we paid $250.00 for a brand new Wii. That was the best decision EVER! Sure, Wii Sports is pretty fun. But when you factor in that we can play all of our Gamecube games PLUS the great selections of Virtual Console titles (which almost all of them use GC contoller anyways... forget buying a classic controller!), not to mention the wave of Wii games coming out this next quarter, and you've got a huge incentive to buy a Wii. And in my opinion, the GC will NOT be dead until they stop manufacturing a system that reads GCN discs. GC games will still be in demand for quite some time because most Wii users never experienced the great games Gamecube had to offer and now here they have the chance. And so Gamecube lives on!

Agreed. However, not just through the Wii's backwards compatbility. The GC system still lives on as well.

Well, I got mine when It first came out (for 100 bucks) and I'm pleased. Also, I've never seen a GC game go UP in price, only down... When I get a Wii, I'm going to keep my controlers for SSBB, until I'm comfortable to use both.

GC launched at $200. Or do you mean when the price first dropped to $100?

Also, I've never seen a GC game go UP in price, only down...

As GC games become more rare, they are impossible to find in stores. Ebay becomes your only source and games sellfor big bucks since there is high demand. Just look at Beyond Good & Evil and Zelda Collectors Editon.

When I get a Wii, I'm going to keep my controlers for SSBB, until I'm comfortable to use both.

I think the GC controller will be the best option since it has rumble. That's why I'll be using a GC controller for Brawl.

As GC games become more rare, they are impossible to find in stores.

That applies only to the early GC games (2001-2003) that aren't from Nintendo, and a few 2004 games like Pikmin 2. Don't expect Super Smash Bros., Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Twilight Princess, all of the GC's 2007 games, etc. to become rare for while to come. Third-party games from 2004-2006 are harder to find than they were, due to production getting slightly smaller, but still aren't too difficult to find.

Rocky, your use of Beyond Good and Evil and the Zelda Collector's Edition is kind of unfair... but there is a definite problem with GC game availability these days. Heck, two years ago I started by "quest" to buy a bunch of quality GC games for $20 (which I just finished a few months ago); I kept track of which games I wanted were still $50, and waited for the price to go down. But by the end of last year, a lot of the games would go from being $50, to not being available at all. :?

Casiotech

NO.

in other words gamecube is immortal.

Many people are buying Wii's who never owned GC's, and then they are buying GC games. This is only helping to fuel the GC shortage in stores and the high prices on Ebay.

Those are pretty much the ones I was talking about although I believe there are a few more 2004/2005 Nintendo titles that they have stopped production. I own all the common games. Right now the games I want are: Beyond Good & Evil, Mario Power Tennis, Mario Superstar Baseball, Pikmin 2, Zelda Four Swords, and a few others. All those are semi-rare to rare. I'm glad I bought Zelda Collectors Edition when I did because that seems to be the most expensive GC game around.

I don't know. I found the Wii a better investment than a GameCube with all the features (online, Virtual Console, WiiWare, motion sensors, Wii games). If you think that the broadband is worth, you have a problem. Mario Kart on Wii (it's announced for a Q1 2008 release) is online while you have to play Double Dash in a LAN. The GameBoy Player was good that's why I kept my GameCube but I don't play my GC games on it.

I have nothing against the GameCube. I play GC games on my Wii and some GC games works better on Wii. Super Smash Bros Melee is a huge example. I found the graphics better playing on Wii than on GameCube. Metroid Prime is another example.

The console is dead for me IMO but not the games. The games will always be alive.

Right now, I play moston VC games especially Soldier Blade on TG-16 and Super Metroid that is coming soon. It's only a matter of time that I'll replay more on Wii games.

I agree with everything you said but this is false. The Wii plays GC games exactly as they were on the GC. There is no change. The graphics are the same and all slowdown and stuff is present. The Wii basically just thinks its a GC when playing GC games. The only difference would be if you are playing them in 480p on Wii but didn't on the GC.

Beyond Good & Evil, Mario Power Tennis, Mario Superstar Baseball, Pikmin 2, Zelda Four Swords, and a few others.

The games I bolded are extremely easy to find where I live. But yes, Beyond Good & Evil and Pikmin 2 are very rare now.

Well I can't find them and they sell at a decently high price used on Ebay. They are no longer manufactured by Nintendo. It doesn't help that stores have like only a half shelf devoted to GC.

Yeah, and by that definition most consoles are immortal too... which is good; more power to the SNES.
