Can anyone help me with Bloody Palace mode?

I've only gone as far to level 19.

Even after all those crazy battles, a countless number of SSS combos and that ridiculous fight with Berial, I died from that level with the electric monster and lizards! and I still got a D!

WTF?

This game hates me

If you go at it with Nero, I suggest mapping the gun attack button in a place where you can comfortably hold it down for charge attacks. I used R2 (or RT in your case). Level 3 charges do a great deal of damage, plus they explode a few seconds later, stunning pretty much all enemies. It works very well with Blitz enemies and most everything that's thrown at you.

I could barely get past level 20, but I managed to work my way up to level 80 before I got destroyed. It might be a little cheap, but it is pretty effective.

D3s7rUc71oN

I'll quote Dvader,

Bloody Palace is insane, I can only get to the 30's. And yeah you need to go all the way to level 101 to get a good ranking.

dvader654

I think enemies begin to Devil Trigger past 80. Oh, and the last level is a powered up Dante. Be afraid:D It's not that bad with Nero, but Dante is a different story. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm really having a hard time playing as Dante. I think I've become so accustomed to Nero's fighting style that playing with Dante feels uncomfortable.

I currently playing through DMD mode and I'm getting destroyed as Dante, whereas I managed fine with Nero. Maybe it's just the enemies, but it's most likely me.

Its not just you, everyone says DMD mode gets crazy hard with Dante. The enemies were made for Nero in mind. With Dante its hard as hell to take care of all these guys with shields and crap. Nero you can just throw everyone and get out of bad situations easy, Dante you cant.

What I find really difficult are the Chimera, those annoying slashing plants, especially when they're attached to the lizards. The most effective way I've been taking them out is with Pandora mixed with Trickster and Gunslinger styles when appropriate. Their annoying random attacks have greater frequency on the harder difficulties. Pandora attacks seem to nullify the slashing but it's tough to combo them at all.

How have you been doing with S-ranking missions? I don't have too many problems with style points or time, but there are quite a few orbs I end up missing. I wonder how far you have to backtrack to get the right amount of red orbs.

Hey Arch, I hated the platforming segments too. Don't worry, they're only in the beginning, and the game gets even better as it progresses.

Jbul

Well that's really good to know, thanks. I'm definately looking forward to getting further in the game especially where I can start playing as Dante and I can't wait to unlock Bloody Palace and give that a go.

Does anyone know about the game's secrets? For instance, if any new modes/options are unlocked after beating the game on DMD?

And what's up with the "character selection" screen before each level? You know, the one where you usually only select one. I don't think this screen is just for switching "automatic" on and off. I really hope there's a way to unlock it.

Go to GS' DMC4 Hints and Cheats section, it says if you beat DMD mode you'll unlock Super Nero/Dante and Hell or Hell mode and something else.

i must be missing something in this game. i am enjoying it okay but so far its a game i would not own. i am not the biggest on trying to redo levels to get a certain rank. ill probably play it through once, and only play more if i really get stuck on perfecting things (not likely with school going on).

one thing that is driving me MAD is the fact that the game is causing my 360 to prepare for a space launch. the thing sounds like a jet engine. thing is, this does not happen with other games. i popped in mass effect and crackdown and the system is a little loud as always, but with this game it is absurd. how is that even possible? seems like the disc is constantly spun up.

Well thats strange, my 360 never really had a problem like that but yeah I could see where this game wont have everyone's appeal.

I just finished the game, and I loved it... until Mission 12. The second half was still enjoyable but it felt like I was playing through the game a second time but on easy mode.

You may want to call MS now, so when your 360 finally succumbs to the power of DMC4, you can send it in ASAP. :P

I've played many games on 360 that do exactly what DMC4 is doing to your system. Its never good. I actually had to stand my 360 up when playing Mass Effect, as the damn thing kept freezing when it was laying flat down.

Right now I just had the best run I ever had. I just redid mission 2 on DMD mode for a second time (got an A rank the first time) and everything just clicked. I still got hit, I am not one of these no hit DMC gods but I am good with getting combos and staying alive, I went through the mission getting great combos and everything. Then I got to Berial and I destroyed him in like a minute, I don't even think I got touched against him. It was crazy awesome, when I finished I was like "did I do that

When the score goes up I will be ranked like 60 something in that level.

BTW Dez do you have the PS3 version, if you do add me, I have the same PSN user name as here.

dvader654

Nice. Mission 2 is probably the only good level for me to get a good score, as it's the only one on DMD where I didn't need to use items to get through it.

I do have the PS3 version, and my user name is rcmDez. I'll go ahead and add you the next chance I get. It will be cool to compare scores, you sound like you're really awesome at the game.

I just beat DMD mode last night, and I didn't really enjoy Dante's section through it. Unless I'm fighting Scarecrow's or Knights, I found them a little frustrating to deal with. The bosses weren't that bad though. I'm going to mess around with Heaven or Hell/Hell or Hell next.

My brother just had his go belly up after a marathon DMC4 session :-/. It is a pretty visually impressive game (I'm actually speaking of the PS3 version since I didn't get it for the 360 but I hear they're roughly equivalent) so it's not too much of a stretch to suppose that it pushes healthy 360's to their limits. If something is already going in your 360 I'd say DMC4 is a good candidate to push it over the edge before that warranty expires.

It is visually impressive indeed. There's a scene where a helmet falls on the ground after Nero kicks those guy's asses... for a moment I thought it was CGI.

Beat the game and playing for S rankings on missions. Very fun, especially considering the save system, where even if you don't get the rank you're looking for, you can still keep the orbs and souls you earned in the mission to power up Nero or Dante, without penalty. Very smart move on Capcom's part, this extends the game replayability almost limitlessly.

Oh, and I found out you have to be logged in to Live when you complete a mission for your score to be uploaded. No uploading later, which kind of sucks if you use one connection.

I hope it stays that way. We may be looking at spring break without PGR4 or Gears depending on how long it takes MS to get the 360 back to him :-/. Hardware failure is no fun.

I used potions on the last boss too. Mostly just because I hadn't used one the entire game, and didn't beat him until the 3rd or 4th try.

I guess if you protect Kyrie in the ending cinematic, there's a different ending!

Not different, but a bonus ending after everything else is over in Dante's shop.

Man, this game is hard to put down! Just finished S-ranking all stages for Devil Hunter and working on doing the same for Son of Sparda. I've only done a little of Hell and Hell, though it doesn't seem too bad so far. I like how you automatically get three gold orbs at the start of each mission, so you are allowed to get hit a few times. Pretty convenient.

I'm really improving my gameplay as Dante. At first, it felt a bit cumbersome to switch styles on the fly, but it's becoming more natural the more I play as him. I'm not very creative when it comes to combos, but making use of all three melee weapons is incredibly satisfying, especially using Lucifer. I didn't find the shotgun useful until I realized that shooting it mid-air had great knockback capabilities. It works very well, especially on Blitzes and Chimeras.

Dvader, you have some really impressive scores up on the leaderboard. I see your scores are mostly in the top 500, though you haven't finished DMD mode yet. What do you think of it so far? It definitely has its tough moments, but it feels a lot more forgiving compared to DMC1 and 3 I think.

I don't like the saving system... ok I'm not someone who plays for five hours straight nor someone who goes through missions with Sonic's speed as I always take time exploring the levels and looking for blue orbs and such. But there are times when I have to turn off the console, and before I do that I make sure that I saved my game. The thing is, it always takes me back to the same chapter! Now I went through mission 6 4 times :( This is so annoying!

I am totally with you Dez, its actually nice to see someone put in as much time as I have, scary but comforting at the same time. :P

dvader654

Well, I really enjoy these kinds of games. I tend to sink more time into them than I usually mean to.

I think that my major problem with Dante trying to do too much with all his abilities. It's completely overwhelming, but in this case it's a good thing. I started to play better when I didn't try to make use of everything he had. DMD missions were frustrating mostly because of Assault Chimeras, which I could never get a decent combo off of. Shotgun seems to work well, but I still had a great deal of trouble.

Interesting that would have trouble with 19, Nero's user-friendly playing style makes things much easier for me. How are you managing with charged shots and instant revs? Other than Agnus, I don't have too much trouble with the bosses.

That's really unfortunate. The save system hasn't changed at all since the first one, and it only saves your red orbs and proud souls. Though most of the missions are done is manageable chunks, Mission 6 is one of the longer ones in the game. One thing though, whatever you do, do not try and backtrack all the way to the beginning of the game.

Do you know how to get through the board game area? The number at the top of the die is what you get when you hit it, and it always moves in a predictable pattern. You can get through without having to fight any enemies there. Hopefully that will make things a little easier.

I started playing this again but on Human mode for the achievements, I don't know why Capcom didn't give me the points for Human when I beat it on DH mode, I haven't spent a single item on it so its very easy right now. I started messing around with Bloody Palace tried with both Nero and Dante, I did better with Dante but back then I was more familiar with Nero.

Now that I've played with Dante a second time through, everything clicks, just like DMC3 the first time it took awhile to get the overwhelming arsenal at Dante's disposal, but I concluded that Dante>Nero once you get swordmaster to level 4 hands down.

I got a question though is there anyway you can charge Blue Rose (Nero's pistol) faster? The thing takes too damn long, or is there a trick to it like instant revving that I'm not aware of?

Human mode is a joke. It's funny, I find it more difficult to get good ranks on it because enemies die before you can actually do anything. Achievements and such should have stacked up.

As for Blue Rose, there's no faster way to charge it up. The pay-off for a level 3 charge attack is huge, so it kind of balances itself out since it does a great deal of damage, stuns enemies and explodes for even more pain (and style points). Try mapping to another button so you can have an easier time using it. Holding down the X button (or square) can be a real pain. I used R2 since there wasn't any function for it anyway.

Human mode is a joke. It's funny, I find it more difficult to get good ranks on it because enemies die before you can actually do anything. Achievements and such should have stacked up.

Lost Odyssey is consuming most of my time, but I pop in DMC4 every so often to work on Human mode and doing all the secret missions that I skipped the first time. I do agree about it being difficult to get an S in Human. I think a single Buster was an instant-kill on an enemy in mission 2, and I don't think I managed to finish an aerial combo before it died. The first three missions I only got an A on in my first shot. I honestly think I'd have an easier time going back to DH and getting an S on them.

I do agree that not automatically getting the Human accomplishments for going straight for DH is lame. Oh well, I'll be just that much more beefed up when I'm done for S runs in DH and for BP/SOS attempts.

I am totally with you Dez, its actually nice to see someone put in as much time as I have, scary but comforting at the same time. :P

I completed that mission 4 times! I mean... everytime I beat it I get the new misison screen but when I tunr off the console and load the game again it takes me back to mission 6!

I've really picked up a lot of interest in Lost Odyssey after reading people's impressions here. It looks like it might be my next purchase.

Kudos to the people who can actually S-rank Human mode. You actually have to keep your enemies alive long enough to accumulate points. I see you had quite a few S-ranks on Devil Hunter, you would probably have an easier time getting high ranks on it again. Enemies are simply too fragile in Human and, to a certain degree, DH. I find that SOS hits a nice sweet spot for the game: it carries a decent challenge and enemies have enough health that allow for some creative attacks.

You didn't forget to save after every mission did you? When you start up the game again, it will highlight the last mission you completed, but you will be able to move onto mission 7.

I had that problem once or twice with this game. Playing and beating a mission, I turned off the console, only to come back the next day to realize I hadn't saved - which I suppose I assume the game did automatically.

It's a good idea to save before you turn the system off anyway, so you can keep the orbs and souls you've gotten in your current play session since your last save.

I still don't know whether to get the PS3 or XBOX 360 version of this game. I'm planning on getting a PS3 soon but I already have an XBOX 360. Any advice?

Pick the one with the controller you like more. You will be using every single button, d-pad, everything. So make sure you like the controller you choose.

I guess I'll just buy the XBOX 360 version this weekend then if that's the only differences between the 2 versions.
