Glad you like the news!

As for me, since I have a ton of console games to look forward to in early 2012, I may have to pass on the Vita. However, I'm hoping that Gamestop or other retail stores will allow people to preview the system. I got that chance before the Nintendo 3DS came out.

Metamania

Being able to try it out would make a difference. I prefer consoles, but if I want to play new games, this is my best option for now.

By the best option, do you mean portable or console? Portable is good to have for traveling, which is why I prefer something like SFXT...it would keep me busy for hours on the road.

I mean portable would be the better option for me right now. It's a personal issue, so I won't get into it.

U.S Prices for Memory Cards are confirmed. Not too expensive for the cheapest option so thats something, but for Sony to push DD with his model and then ship a portable with no internal storage to download these DD games is an assinine move.

4GB - $19.99
8GB - $39.99
16 GB - $59.99
32 GB - $99.99

S0lidSnake

That's an understatement. Those seem overpriced, too.

Yes, they are overpriced, but the entry fee to start playng and saving your games is $20 which puts the Vita cost at $270. Still lower than the $300-$350 i was expecting with all the amazing tech in there.

I confess to being unclear as to why they made the jump to new tech (don't know if there are defensible reasons such as faster speed or merely commercial ones) but I can remember that memory cards for the PSP started off much more expensive (32 GB was $200 or something crazy like that and that size wasn't availiable until months after launch). Still, I'm hoping Sandisk jumps in quickly.

[QUOTE="BranKetra"]I have a question. Will there be any cross-platform gaming? For example, SFvsTK Vita players against PS3 ones.Metamania

I once heard that it's possible to do so. In the case of SFXT, that is happening.

Wipeout 2048 is compatible with the PS3 version online I believe.

Not interested in the slightest in the Vita. I had a PSP but only used it to play Crisis Core, as I wanted to know the story of it.

Don't see why you posted just to share that, but suit yourself.

Its a little strange that you skipped Dissidia (a well done beat'em up with lots of familiar faces) but bought Crisis Core (which was a crap game with a lot of familiar faces).

I paid $150 for a 1GB Memory stick for the PSP a month after launch... they were an entirely new format in 2005, but now i can get a 2GB memory stick pro duo for $5.

The only reason Sony switched to a brand new tech is to make money off of it to earn their money back. I would be okay with that, it's a business after, if i didnt think it would hurt them in the long run. Making a few dollars profit while pissing off customers and affecting the word of mouth isnt the way to go about conducting your business. iPhone/iPod's success was largely driven on the word of mouth. Let's not forget that the iPhone debuted at $600 and sold out immediately.

Here's a link to an interesting developer video preview of Resistance burning skies. There are icons/virtual buttonsfor the ax and the grenade on the right side of the (touch)screen. So one has very quick access to melee attacks and one can direct exactly where one wants a grenade to go by dragging the grenade icon to that spot (you can even hold the icon for a moment if you want the grenade to be cooked).

PS Vita sales fell off a cliff in week 2, below even PSP sales (outsold by the 3DS by a factor of 6).

I suspect a price cut is incoming (probably not a 40% pricecut like the 3DS saw, perhaps a 25% pricecut).

Kotaku posted a playthrough of the Escape Plan demo. Reminds me very much of a point and click adventure. As I've said before, this is one of my must-buys.

It's no big deal. I'm just trying to save up until I move to a new place. I don't want to be bored the whole time, though.

I'm trading in a bunch of old games and preordering this today. I'm getting the wifi model, Hot Shots Golf, wipEout and Lumines. I'm not sure which memory card I'm going to get. Probably the 16GB. I'm going to have a lot of downtime this semester and the Vita is going to help.

Eurogamer has posted an interesting write-up of the Vita. The guy's point is that after early adopters got burned with the 3DS, there was atendency to wait a month or three and see if a 30% pricecut happened. He stated that is the Vita followed the 3DS model, big launches would become a thing of the past in Japan so Sony might be wise to just try to woo consumers with more games and more advertising.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-01-03-playstation-vita-review

I've got my Vita prepurchased, but I'd be fine with a pricecut. The cheaper the hardware, the more games I can buy.

IGN's posted a nice video preview of Katamari Damancy, which was a really brilliant concept that Namco has milked the hell out of, but which I still have a soft spot for. The Vita incarnation (for whom touchscreen controls are optional) looks nice. I won't buy it for $30 asking price, but when I see it on sale for half that...

The (small) twist this go round is Kata manipulation. You can make it wider or make it narrower to better grab pieces of whatever world you are trying to roll up.

Sumioni is a 2D action game with Okami style graphics in which you use the analog stick and buttons to control a swordsman, but you use the rear touchpad to both draw platforms for him and to draw symbols which summon monsters and initiate attack spells. Video at the link below. Confirmed for US release and all the hands-on impressions are very positive (there will be a demo).

IGN has posted a video walkthrough of Gravity Daze's demo (looks awesome) and video impressions of UMVC3 (the guy says a dpad isn't the idea way to play fighters, but the vita's dpad is quality dpad and he was able to pull off all the moves he could in its console cousins).

Gravity Daze looks like the best of the 'launch window' games. I hope it gets a solid release date soon along with Rayman Origins. I remembered Sumioni looking sorta unpolished the last time I saw video of it. I'll have to read up on it and see if it is looking any better. I like the art styIe enough.

Zipper Interactive's (SOCOM, MAG) Unit 13 is hitting March 7th. It features online and wifi coop and six characters with different loadouts/skills (all of which can be customized as they level up).

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/01/12/unit-13-infiltrates-ps-vita-march-6th-covert-mission-video-walkthrough/

For those not keeping up on Unit 13, there are four different mission types. Direct Action missions are larger, multiple objective missions that reward tactical play. Deadline missions are medium-sized missions where players have to race against the clock; they reward speed over tactics. Elite missions are small- to medium-sized missions with no health regen or check points. Elite missions reward taking as little damage as possible. Finally, the Covert missions are stealth missions where you need to get in and out without the enemy knowing you were there. It rewards players for remaining unseen and you get a bonus for leaving enemies alive. However, if you are discovered, you can still recover if you take out the alerted enemies fast enough. Each different game type has different scoring rules and each one makes the best use of the six different operatives and their equipment.

With 36 missions playable in single player or co-op, along with dynamic versions of those missions; plus nine HVT missions to unlock and share via near; six different operatives; 10 levels per operative that unlock new abilities, weapons and equipment; plus the daily challenge missions and leaderboards for all 36 single player and co-op missions, I predict that Unit 13 will keep you busy for a very long time.

That Unit 13 video looks pretty solid. I've finally got everything pre-ordered. I'm getting the wifi model, the 16gb stick, wipEout 2048, Lumines, Rayman Origins and the travel pouch because it has four slots for game cards in it. The footage I've seen for Rayman Origins on it looks absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to see that screen first hand.

Just realized this thread was sadly lacking in Dragon's Crown images. Dragon's Crown is a four player beat'em up from Vanillaware which is scheduled to hit the US and Japan in this Spring. There will be PS3 and PSP versions, which will share some sort of connectivity.

My GF & I are still having way too much fun with our PSPs playing PixelJunk Monsters and more recently, Fat Princess. I think a Vita is a long way off for me, especially because I like to play ad hoc co-op; but I must admit, some of these games have me intrigued. Disappointing that the Rayman Origins game is basically a port though, might have convinced me with some fresh content... I was a late adopter with the PSP and wouldn't mind picking this up down the line when the price drops significantly.

Some, but maybe not what you are looking for.

http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/players-can-use-vita-as-a-controller-for-ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-on-ps3/

Connectivity features will allow players to sync up their Vita to the PlayStation 3 and use the touch screen fighting controls, previously announced for Vita, with the PlayStation 3 version. You can also choose to use the buttons to fight if you wish to and doing so will allow you to assign four special moves to massive buttons on the Vita's screen for easy access. Finally you will be able to view replays, share videos online, display button presses and show character's hit boxes on the Vita screen.

http://www.capcom-unity.com/marvelvscapcom/blog/2011/12/19/ps_vita_version_of_ultimate_mvc3_dated,_includes_heroes__heralds_mode

With fully featured online modes, a new replay function and the ability to share DLC between PS3/Vita versions, this really does stand out as a AAA launch title for the new platform. The full Vita launch is Feb 22, 2012, but again, Ultimate MvC3 is part of the early wave of games arriving with Vita on Feb 15.

Nothing wrong with that. If you and your girlfriend like brawlers, I recommend you give Dissidia a shot. FF characters with DBZ style combat (big arenas you run and jump around, and you can knock the other person through various parts of it). Even if you're utterly indifferent to FF, this is a fun game. If you like FF, you'll get a special charge out of being able to recreate various hero vs boss battles.

It isn't what I was looking for, but I guess I understand. I was hoping for Capcom gave more games besides SFvsTK, but that one has an excuse since it's coming out later, if I recall. If they don't, it will just be a gimmick.

Eurogamer posted a largely positive write-up of the Vita. They loved the controls and the power, but they wish it had a better web browser.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-01-03-playstation-vita-review

Where do you put your focus? Judging by a fortnight with PlayStation Vita, even Sony's hardware designers couldn't make their minds up about that, because the initial impression is that they threw everything at the wall and everything stuck. The result is a handheld that can do pretty much anything.

Moving on to more concrete news, here are some images of Persona 4: The Golden. Atlus normally adds a ton of new content (new characters, new story arcs, new enemies, more voicework, etc) when porting a game to the PSP and they are promising that Golden will be no exception. As a huge fan of Persona 4 (combat system isn't quite in FF13's league, but its a better game all round) I'll be picking this up when it hits the States (no doubt sometime after it hits Japan this Spring). Trailer at the link.

You must have read some news on the game that I haven't. Other than a new character that Atlus pulled out of nowhere and a few new tracks, the game is almost a straight port last I checked, unlike the significant differences between P3 and P3P.

Sorry I didn't provide any links before. There's not a whole new central character as there was in P3, but they are adding a lot of new content.

New events, new locations (ski lodge, bath house), new personas, combo attacks, additional voiceovers, addition movies, mopeds, revised graphics and more difficulty levels. Below aren't links to everything I've read, but they convey most of the details.

http://www.siliconera.com/2011/12/26/persona-4-the-golden-adds-ski-vacation-event-plu-new-evolved-personas/

New details about Persona 4: The Golden come from Famitsu, which revealed a new event. The gang will go to a skiing and stay at lodge. During this event they'll fight battles wearing winter clothing.

Yosuke and Chie may have new evolved Personas too. The magazine shows Yosuke with Takehaya Susano-o and Chie with Haraedo no Okami. Another change is the game has team attacks where you two characters can do different combinations.

Thanks for the detailed impressions davder. I'm going to cancel my preorder of Uncharted. I've heard enough rumblings about the motion controls that it would be smart to try the demo first.

I'm fine with motion control in the right context (Escape Plan is one of my most anticipated games) but some of Uncharted's motion controls sound tacked on.

Great impressions on the Vita there Vader. I don't care much for how the analog sticks sound but the rest of it seems like top-notch quality. Really looking forward to picking one of these up myself.

I'm mainly worried about the DLC craze. I don't wanna buy an NFS game to later find out half the cars are purchased seperately :(

Great impressions vader. From what ive read the analog sticks take a bit getting used to, so it shouldnt be a problem in the long run.

I thought I'd locked down my day one purchases but now I'm waffling. The only for sure purchase for me is Lumines. I think I'll save my money for Gravity Rush and maybe pick up some old PSP games off of PSN.

Not sure why they are charging $50 for Uncharted. It's not even like it has online. Sony just makes the stupidest decisions sometimes. They shouldve at least had a CoD game at launch. Why have these amazing online features and then not use them AT ALL?

I decided to cancel all of my Vita game preorders and just go the download route. My sure things are Luminees, Rayman Origins (I missed the console version),Gravity Rushand Escape Plan. However, if I like the demos, I will pick up Uncharted, Army Corps of Hell, Super Stardust Delta and Unit 13.

I haven't preordered one yet, but I plan on geting the 3g version, Sfvstk, mvc3, and lumines. Never played Uncharted besides a demo of the first one. I'll check it out at some point.

Super Stardust is a retail game? Huh. Always thought it was download-only.

Sorry for the lack of clarity. Super Stardust and Escape Plan are download-only.
