After what has been an unbearable wait, Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion is finally being released a week from tomorrow. The big news is that for the first time, Namco has dropped their flagship fighter on a non-Sony console and both versions will include full online functionality. It's also important to note that we are getting Bloodline Rebellion, a significant upgrade to vanilla Tekken 6, which features numerous tweaks and the addition of two more playable characters.
The home version will include the usual assortment of modes and will also contain Scenario Mode, another installment of the Tekken Force type game play, which has frankly always been a tad lame but might end up being decent in this upcoming iteration. (It supports two players so fingers crossed)
I actually had a chance to play the arcade version of Bloodline Rebellion and I walked away impressed. Like Tekken 5: DR, it's a very offensive-minded game with a bright, colorful roster of fighters and copious amounts of techniques. My devotion to the genre has waned considerably in terms of making a concerted commitment to playing and improving but Tekken is my bread and butter and like Tekken: DR on the PSN, I intend to log some serious time online with Rebellion.
I will also state without hesitation that in motion, Tekken 6 is gorgeous and probably the best-looking fighter currently on the market. The applied motion-blur makes the animations look buttery-smooth and the game runs at a brisk 60 FPS with nary a hitch. (Though I have heard the game will occasionally slow down even in the arcade.) Regardless, this is still Tekken so if the previous games didn't get your blood flowing don't expect a radical departure in this sequel.
For the time being I'm going to nab the XB360 version but I may get the PS3 version if the competitive pool there is largely different. (or better)
XB-LIVE Tag: Jedi Sorrow (Don't laugh…well okay, laugh a little bit.)
Reviews are forthcoming and I will update as the week progresses.
