Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion

Publisher: Namco

Genre: Fighting

Release Date: October 27th, 2009

Platforms: PS3, XB360, PSP

Online Functionality: Yes

Playable Characters: 42

After what has been an unbearable wait, Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion is finally being released a week from tomorrow. The big news is that for the first time, Namco has dropped their flagship fighter on a non-Sony console and both versions will include full online functionality. It's also important to note that we are getting Bloodline Rebellion, a significant upgrade to vanilla Tekken 6, which features numerous tweaks and the addition of two more playable characters.

The home version will include the usual assortment of modes and will also contain Scenario Mode, another installment of the Tekken Force type game play, which has frankly always been a tad lame but might end up being decent in this upcoming iteration. (It supports two players so fingers crossed)

I actually had a chance to play the arcade version of Bloodline Rebellion and I walked away impressed. Like Tekken 5: DR, it's a very offensive-minded game with a bright, colorful roster of fighters and copious amounts of techniques. My devotion to the genre has waned considerably in terms of making a concerted commitment to playing and improving but Tekken is my bread and butter and like Tekken: DR on the PSN, I intend to log some serious time online with Rebellion.

I will also state without hesitation that in motion, Tekken 6 is gorgeous and probably the best-looking fighter currently on the market. The applied motion-blur makes the animations look buttery-smooth and the game runs at a brisk 60 FPS with nary a hitch. (Though I have heard the game will occasionally slow down even in the arcade.) Regardless, this is still Tekken so if the previous games didn't get your blood flowing don't expect a radical departure in this sequel.

For the time being I'm going to nab the XB360 version but I may get the PS3 version if the competitive pool there is largely different. (or better)

XB-LIVE Tag: Jedi Sorrow (Don't laugh…well okay, laugh a little bit.)

Reviews are forthcoming and I will update as the week progresses.

I've 'borrowed' this from the great TekkenZaibatsu.com. They also have Move Listsfor each character.

Characters-

Edit: I'm going to pass on building a complete character list for now, as I'm having a hard time formatting it in such a way that you wouldn't have to scroll forever to get to the third post in the thread. TekkenZaibatsu has a complete list o fCharacter Profilesfor the game.

Cool. It's about time. The first teaser was released back at E3 2005 if I'm not mistaken.

Sweet thread! If you like, I can put together a list of characters with their bios and fighting styIes sometime soon. I think it'd be a neat addition to the thread. I'll just edit it into this post when I get it done.

rragnaar

That would actually be very cool and you have my full cooperation and appreciation.

It is so crazy to think that I was expecting this game as a PS3 launch title.

Awesome. Finally Tekken 6 is almost here now. I soooo can't wait to pick this game up. I loved Tekken 5, never got a chance to try DR. It's going to be beautiful seeing Tekken on this gen of consoles finally.

Tekken DR is a great game and the inclusion of Dragonov made it a must-have. He's one of my main characters now, though I don't know where he stands in terms of tiers in Tekken 6.

(I've also heard rumors Marduk has been gimped. I hope that isn't true.)

i'm on the fence right now on tekken 6...as far as fighting games go, i think i might put SFIV back on the shelf for good until SSFIV comes out and play this for the time being...but with a 4-5 game backlog plus the upcoming games i want to get i'm not even sure i'll have the time to play this very much...it'll be a game-time decision...

anyway, does anyone have a current tier list they'd like to post here? i'm a king user so i'd like to know where he stands (not that the list would make me change my character, but it would be cool to know)...

I don't have any rankings available (Dark Catalyst is probably the man to ask regarding this) but hasn't King alwasy occupied the upper tiers?

I played the console versions at Evo. Liked what I played, though I may have to remove Marduk as my main. Having too much trouble wrapping my head around how his mid-range works now.

Marduk was never my main but he was in my top 5. ALOT of people on Tekken DR (PSN)seemed to have problemsagainst him for a variety of reasons.

Mind if I ask what they changed? I didn't get a chance to toy around with him when I played Rebellion back in July.

I've never been a King player but he's always had the goods with both a strong poke game and those insane grapple link-throws. I've played many King players and the good ones could toss me into a hurt locker and roll said locker down a mountain.

I've decided to pick up Tekken 6 after not having a real interest in the series since part 3. Bryan was my main back in the day, so I'll be picking him up. From what little I've played of T5, Steve is cool too.

Well, the big one I noticed right off the bat is that Back 4 is gone. What's there now is a standing side kick with horrendous range and awkward startup. It seemed pretty powerful if you could set it up, but losing that "get the hell away from me" kick that was there before is too high a price for it.

I HATED those grapple link throws.

Everytime my friend and I would play a match against each other, he'd use King as his main and whenever he'd try to pull of one of those brutal throws, I would always try wrestling his gamepad from his hands. It was all in good fun though.:P

Why the hell would they strip him of that kick? It's not like Marduk was a spam-fest noob character to begin with. He's a deliberate character who must be learned in order to play effectively.

Seriously, that sucks. I used that kick often. The range alone caught many players off guard.

Well, it just kept people honest at mid range. I don't hate the kick he has at Back 4 now, but unless they put that spinning back kick on another command, Marduk is going to have some trouble at mid. He'll have to work his way in every time and that opens up his game too much. That being said, my B&B combo of DT3-1, 1-2, TT1+2 still works beautifully. But I'll probably end up playing Dragunov.

I just pre-ordered the XBOX 360 version of the game. I also pre-ordered the MvC2 TE for $50. I wanted the black SFIV version but my local GameStop told me they weren't taking any pre-orders of them nor will they be seeing large quantities of it. So I learned my lesson from last time with the launch of the TE's and pre-ordered one regardless of which one it was. I just have no idea why the MvC2 version is $160 while the others are $150. It makes no sense.

Gametrailers has a great preview of this game. It is the highest quality video of the game that I've seen, and the game looks stunning. I wasn't sure about the motion blur from the cruddy YouTube videos I've seen, but seeing it in HD has sold me on it.

Yeah Gametrailers are much better looking. Its nice that they have individual trailers for every character showing off basic staple juggles and moves. I kind of expected youtube matches to look much worse as usually do. I just like to watch high level matches on youtube (preferably japan and korean players) to to check their play styles.

Btw, nice Law player. Very agressive and good use of his parry.

Thank you so much for a Tekken 6 thread around here! I brought up a thread about the game awhile back, but I guess people lost interest in it. :P

That said, I am VERY excited for Tekken 6 and I look forward to picking it up and playing. I just hope it's a big step up from Tekken 5, since T5 was pretty much the same gameplay (which is fine by me, for it was Tekken) with the same animations and sound, even the music was typical. So I hope that everything has been redesigned from the get-go.

Since some of you spoke about main, my main was and will always be Law. Unfortuantely, that may have to change, as Law can be way too predictable. So I hope someone new sparks my curiousity to the max.

I used to have the stick bundle pre-ordered, but I decided to get the SFIV TE stick instead, so I'm fine with the standard version. Can the 27th come any faster folks? :D

Man, I wish I was better at Tekken. I admit, I really stink at this game. Actually, I stink at every 3D fighter like Tekken, VF, and SoulCalibur. But I still love them. I'm looking forward to this!

Gamersyde's vids are even better, since they're running in 60 FPS.

Ahh, okay. So it's just a switch of template and colors... I thought it was something entirely new. *Goes back to waiting for the Round 2 sticks*

this is true, i do remember him always being near the top...i thought it would be interesting to see if they weakened him somewhat or even made him more powerful...

BladesOfAthena

I've never been a King player but he's always had the goods with both a strong poke game and those insane grapple link-throws. I've played many King players and the good ones could toss me into a hurt locker and roll said locker down a mountain.

I HATED those grapple link throws.

Everytime my friend and I would play a match against each other, he'd use King as his main and whenever he'd try to pull of one of those brutal throws, I would always try wrestling his gamepad from his hands. It was all in good fun though.:P

i could be wrong on this, but can't those chain throw combos be broken by the opponent? i was never able to do a whole 5-6 throw combo on an opponent, so i'm not sure...

Do you know if a SSFIV TE stick will come out?

Its not technically a SSFIV version of the TE but its the latest version of the standard TE, with a black and white template with the SFIV. I'm pretty sure MadCatz and Capcom will release another one when SSFIV comes out if you're worried about getting one. I suggest pre-ordering the MvC2 version at GameStop because they are still taking pre-orders of those. The cost is $50 to pre-order and it is $10 more than the original SFIV version but using one of these things is great. You'll never go back to any other stick.

If anything, Amazon has tons of the old ones for the regular retail price. You can always snag one of those if you aren't too into the template of the TE. Though I admit, the original template of the standard TE is rather boring and bland.

Edit.

Actually Amazon has them marked down to $129.99 now. This is a good deal.

Yeah all multi-throws have certain break points. You just have to know which button(s) to press at the right time.I've seen them getting broken a lot in high level play.

I have no idea who to main in T6. Its a toss up between Miguel, Ganryu, Jack-6, Kazuya, or Baek.

Thanks for the info. Im not really in a hurry or desperate need to get another stick right now since I"ll have 3. That MvC 2 TE stick looks really nice but I'll probably just wait and see what the SSFIV TE stick is all about before I make a decision.

I believe you can break those combos with a counter of sorts bro.
