So back to the 1up review. are they right? Is online pretty bad right now? ASK_StoryIt's bad. I haven't had dropped connections, but there's heavy input delay that makes matches unplayable.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Wow, I can't believe I finished the entire Scenario Campaign.... it was awful :(
Bad controls + camera (target switch is a huge problem with fightstick), horribly paced cutscenes, "item grinding" and an AI partner that makes you want to throw her into the void (damnit, that's my item chest/health! :x)
Well, at least it leaves some things in question:
Is Jin dead? Is the Scenario campaign canon? His tournament ending is different showing him escape. Why do I care about the story? and why are there Church's Chicken ads? WTF?
Seriously, WHY are there so many Church's Chicken ads? I'd actualy like to see a Church's Chicken alt costume since they do have with Tapout shirts. Think about it, playing as Lili online with a shirt advertising chicken... your opponent would be distracted from the craziness of it all and an easy win right there!
So back to the 1up review. are they right? Is online pretty bad right now? ASK_StoryIt is, my friend. In my time with the online mode, I get dropped A LOT. All matches start, but they end rather quickly when the game tries to synch with the other player, but doesn't and both players are forced to go back to the lobby. It's really that bad!
I found it a bit staggering when I discovered exactly how much stuff there is to unlock. I'm not talking about your typical stages or characters. I'm talking about the costumes.
Exactly how in the hell am I supposed to unlock ALL of that? There's a lot to unlock for each character with all of their extra costumes and it's gonna take MONTHS before everything can be unlocked. I suppose there isn't a faster way to earn a lot of gold besides fighting, is there?
Also, I think I found my new main.
Bruce Irving.
He was definitely a character I found to be enjoyable in the past, but he's definitely one heck of a beefed up fighter. His mixup is solid and I have no problem with finding new combos with him all the time, plus he has a few chain throws that I could use pretty well.
I think, just like the Street Fighter IV thread, we should have a list of people who play Tekken 6 online, either PS3 or XB360, and just gather gamertags from people and ask them who their main is. Perhaps people can find someone to play and see how far their skills go. Anyone think that's a good idea?
Shame to hear about the online being so botched. Blazeblue and Street Fighter IV were very good especially BB. Hopefully they'll fix it soon.
Anyway I picked up my copy today and really looking forward to playing it later today. It sounds like there's a veritable ****load of things to unlock in the game.
That's probably part of it, I'm also deep in the middle of 4 games at once. I've been playing with my friends every day. They've taken to coming in my back door when I'm not home and practicing....I guess this thread is moving slowly because of crappy online huh?

It sounds like there's a veritable ****load of things to unlock in the game.Yup, it takes a lot of time unlocking each character to use for the story tournament in the Scenario Campaign. And in order to go through the harder levels of the SC, you'll need to keep replaying certain levels to unlock certain items to equip yourself with. The items are pretty much just clothing/gear found in the character customization with effects like increased health or attacks.Archangel3371
The amount of clothing, gear and whatnot to purchase in customization is ****ing insane!
The more I play it, the more I'm enjoying it.
But a few questions:
1. Is it true that the arcade version looks better graphically than the console ones?
2. Is Leo a girl or a dude?
SCIV's visuals do look a little bit better I think, especially the backgrounds. Character models looks about the same I think, although Tekken 6 is a bit blockier.
Is Leo a girl or a dude?ASK_StoryI think it's a dude, the name doesn't sound very feminine. Not easy to tell when the Japanese make the characters.
I came to a firm realization about Tekken 6. I know that it started in Tekken 5, just didn't realize it at the time.
Namco decided to make Tekken a juggling game.
I've noticed how, in ranked matches, all you or your opponent have to do is just get their opponent in the air and just juggle them death. So, in essence, Tekken 6, I believe, is nothing more but a juggle game.
Or you could just pin them down at a wall and just constantly hammer away until they can no longer move. I guess that's sad, considering that's not how Tekken 1-4 were.
That said, has anyone found their main for the game or even stayed with theirs? As I said before, my official main is Bruce Irving. He's just too awesome.

No, actually Tekken became a hardcore jugglijng game once Tekken Tag Tournament came out. From that point on it was really about the combos and pacing.
Here are my thoughts on Tekken for anyone who cares.
Initial Assesment:
I had the opportunity to play this a few times at the arcade and really enjoyed it. But I have to say, the home console version seems to be the weakest home console port of Tekken to date.
I've always enjoyed going through the arcade mode and unlocking the character movies in the home versions. That is why I consider it to be a glaring hole to NOT be able to play the Arcade mode and unlock the movies.
Scenario Campaign:
I'm not really digging the Scenario campaign. Its starting to get better but you really have to prepare yourself when it starts. I never would have imagined being rocked to sleep by a fighitng game's cinematics. The pacing is HORRIBLE and you will be forced to sit through about 10-15 mins of opening cutscenes. I swear it feels like Namco is trying to copy Konami in bloated cinematics.
Online Mode:
The online mode is atrocious. Played it once and immediately ran away from it since the input lag reminds me of 3rd Strike on Xbox live. I think I'll just stick to offline play. This game requires precise timing for juggles so input delay is unacceptable. This is a major bummer for me since this was the main reason why I picked up Tekken 6. I cant tell you how many hours ive spent mastering previous Tekken games only to have all that knowledge disappear from inactivity. Unless Namco can patch this quick, having such a poor Online mode is a deal break for those who don't have anyone to practice this game with.
Character Selection:
Wow. I love a big character roster but this almost feels like overkill. Having so many different characters to choose from may add to this games longevity but the initial impression may be overwhelming. Its pretty bad when you cant even locate your character of choice. My biggest complaint is the lack of a Tag Battle option. With so many characters available why not have Tekken 6 Tag Tournament?
Graphics:
I haven't had the opportunity to play this game in high definition. Even so, I still find the graphics extremely underwhelming. Some character models almost look bad. The silly item choices do nothing to help matters. I couldn't believe the horrible textures preseent in the Scenario mode. Some of the opening cutscenes were embarrassing bad because computers and monitors were simply squares. No detail or effort was put in. I kept reminding myself that this is a "next generation" game.
Gameplay:
I haven't had a chance to delve deeply into the fighitng mechanics yet. But from what I have experienced so far seems promising. For example, I'm loving the fact that King actually has great offensive moves and isn't forced to rely on chain throws to hurt his opponent. I will say that the inclusion of walls adds a pretty deep level of gameplay. I can already see that I will have to develop a number of different location specific strategies.
Overall:
Maybe I'm just losing interest in the Tekken franchise or maybe its just that I don't want to spend another 200+ hours in training mode to master combos that I will never have a chance to use against real opponents. The poor online mode really sucks. Still, if you are tired of Street Fighter 4's stupidity give this game a go. Its better than 4 already and I'm sure it will turn out to be a better game than 5 once I get into it. Just be prepared to invest thousands of hours mastering a few characters.

Perhaps. But I never saw TTT that way.I've been playing a fair amount of this game. Mainly I've been doing Scenario mode and does it ever start out slooooooow and boring but after the initial bout of lackluster cinemas it goes along much better. It's kind of fun too. Pretty much a beat 'em up brawler with slight RPG elements decking your fighters out with accessories and such that give them bonuses and effect enhancements. It plays a bit clumsily though.
I also played about 35 online matches and yeah a fair amount had some serious lag going on. I did manage to get about 5 or so though that played quite well and when it does it is a very enjoyable experience.

ASK_Story
The console version is identical to the arcade version graphically. I'm sure there are a few pixel-counting douches on Neogaf who will claim otherwise but having played an arcade cabinet replete with HD monitor I can attest that the visuals are the same. Also, I've yet to see any slowdown in the console version where by contrast the arcade version apparently had some.
I'd actually give Tekken 6 the visual edge over SCIV but it's really a toss up. SC definitely has better character models but the backgrounds, lighting and motion blur in T6 make up for the shortcomings. Personally, I think both games look great albeit for different reasons.

wasnt the arcade ver. in 1080p???
Whoever came up with the idea of Azazel needs to be lined up against a wall and shot. Otherwise I'm liking T6 a lot. I don't understand the point of Arena mode when they could have just put the prologues and character endings in the Arcade mode instead. And a couple of matches aside, the online has been relatively lag free for me.Floppy_Jim
I agree Azazel is one of the most cheap bosses in Tekken, it makes Jinpachi seem like an infant. The online has no lag for me
Nightmare Train is absolutely brutal. It took me about two straight hours of playing time to beat it. It's by far the most difficult level in SC Mode.
For those who don't know, it's Devil Jin's stage which is unlocked after beating Scenary Campain mode on normal. Hard Mode is also unlocked. And there's also 3 secret stages to unlock after you beat the the game on normal mode. Unless you dont care about unlocking Mokujin's, Yoshimitsu's, and Roger Jr's Theater endings.

Even when I play on EASY, I get destroyed by that bastard time and time again. My strategy is to set a time limit of 30 seconds each round, hit him a few times and then avoid him until the time runs out. I've never had to go to such lengths to beat a Tekken boss before :(Nightmare Train is absolutely brutal. It took me about two straight hours of playing time to beat it. I was really struggling with Nightmare Train until I played it as Alisa. I cleared it on my second attempt, wasn't too hard.

According to the back of my copy, it's also capable of 1080p on my XB360.
From what I gather, the image is upscaled on both the console and arcade versions. Regardless, the game looks the same.

Azazel, in my opinion, is most likely the cheapest boss in Tekken history. Jin Kazama is brutal as the CPU. You gotta be just as aggressive as he is to win that match. With Azazel, all you have to do is juggle him to death and he can't touch you, but if you can't do that, you'll be frustrated for a long while.

so the arcade ver. was also upscaled??? i really didnt know that i just heard a while back that it was 1080p i just presumed it was native 1080p since t5dr is native 1080p on ps3Has anyone had trouble pulling off the moves where you have to the Mashima shadow step that leads to their famous uppercuts on the 360? I'm planning on getting this down the line but I know the 360's D pad isn't great for fighting games.
i have the game, but haven't started playing it yet (likely will in the next week or so)...are the character endings unlocked through scenario campaign mode, or by finishing arcade mode with each character? do characters have to be unlocked here?
You have to go through Scenario Campaign to unlock characters for the Tournament Arena. By completing the arena with the certain character, you can unlock their ending. Although I notice you can unlock certain character's ending by just going through SC where a message will appear showing you unlocked it.i have the game, but haven't started playing it yet (likely will in the next week or so)...are the character endings unlocked through scenario campaign mode, or by finishing arcade mode with each character? do characters have to be unlocked here?

Great News. I read at www.sdtekken.com that Namco is working on an online patch that will be seperate from the SC 2-player co-op patch. Hopefully they can finally fix the online lag.
That would be awesome news. :) In the meantime, I hope to be picking up the Tekken 6 strategy guide. DC was right. This guide is awesome. Namco Bandai is releasing the free online playpatch previously promised this Thursday, which includes various tweaks and adjustments aimed at making Tekken 6 somewhat enjoyable to play online. Fixes include improved input response; the ability to search by location and connection quality when looking for ranked matches; bandwidth optimization between players and spectators; improved signal strength bars; and the ability to cancel a match before it starts if your opponent's improved signal strength bar hasn't improved.
Kotaku
I'll believe it when I see it, but I really hope this works.
Yeah I'd be very thankful on Thanksgiving if the online play is actually smooth. I also heard they're making yet another patch to improve the practice mode in December.
It seems like the Tekken team spent too much time making the lame SC Mode and not enough on the core game. It's a shame really because the core gameplay is very good. But everything else seems rushed.

That's how I feel on the matter. AndSC still isn't good, after all the effort. I don't know why they waste their time on the brawler mode. It was never good, not even back when it was called Tekken Force. I'd rather have a Tekken Ball/Bowling/whatever, since they were much more fun.
Cool. I had a few really good matches online before so if they fix the lag with tomorrow's patch that'll be great. I'm looking forward to trying it out again tomorrow.

Are we sure the patch is going live tomorrow? Kotaku isn't exactly a name I trust, and the patch seems to be coming awfully quick (unless they have already been working on a patch for some time now). Guess we'll find out tomorrow.
EDIT: Never mind, I checked sdtekken.com, patch is coming.
