Well the beta ended today. I'm really sad because I had a fantastic couple of days with it, it was like I was playing KZ2 again.

Anyway, here are a very detailed list of changes GG plans to make for the retail version of the game. Some of them are bugs, while some are pretty decent design decisions that should help the flow of the game.

  • A fix to the "Your Faction Has Won/Lost" issue, along with all oddities that resulted from this occurring
  • An issue that allowed more than two clans to join a clan match will be fixed
  • Increased Accuracy, Bullet Damage and Faster Reload Ribbons will update correctly on personal statistics screens
  • We've simplified the process to invite players into your game (just one button press)
  • The radius of the Marksman's Scramble++ has been lowered - Awesome.
  • Medic's Revive distance increased and cooldown to re-use is decreased - Awesome.
  • No collision on mortally wounded player bodies
  • Increased player stamina
  • An icon will be shown in the menu when you have a Killzone 3 message in your inbox

Shortly after the game's release, you'll also see these changes patched in:

  • Support for color-blind players
  • Implement unranked custom games for players to create private or clan matches - Awesome!
  • Enhanced custom games functionality that will allow players to:
    • Control over games modes and settings
    • Secure games, allowing you to invite the players you want to play with
    • The ability to prevent abilities and weapons from being used
    • Toggling on and off functionality, such as ribbons, skills, explosives, etc.
    • Selecting which careers you want available to players
    • Allow friendly fire to be turned on or off
    • Faction switching enabled or disabled
  • The Clan Officer role will be added to clans
  • Separate turn speeds for hip-fire and ADS
  • Overly enthusiastic death screams will be toned down
  • Increased the amount of kills required to win a Guerrilla Warfare match - Good.
  • Increased Accuracy ribbon will have its effectiveness lowered
  • Likewise, the Bullet Damage ribbon will have its effectiveness lowered as well
  • Matches will end if the other team forfeits (i.e. too few, or no players on the enemy team)
  • Matchmaking enhancements that will close and merge games based on player count, which will keep games more full
  • Balance factions out by moving players to the other team at the end of the match if one team is lopsided - Awesome.
  • The ability to turn off HUD markers for point pop-ups and objectives
  • A menu option to allow squad-only chat
  • The addition of a Mute All button
  • Scoreboard flickering will be fixed
  • Clans will no longer get matched against other clans that have many more players than they do (i.e. 4 vs. 7, 5 vs. 8)

And that list is just the beginning. As we release our patches you'll get a full list of everything we've updated in a patch list, which is much more than what we've listed above. GG

Some of these changes are very minor and may not mean much to players who haven't played the game too much, but they are certainly going to make this game a lot better when it launches. Sure there are still going to be C4 spams and Infiltrators running around everywhere, but if my last couple of days with the game are any indication, they wont be a problem.

They sound like good mods, but given how pissed off you were at infiltators before, why the change of heart?

I just unlocked the Rocket Launcher for Tactician, that takes care of snipers and other campers in a room. As for infiltrators, they love going for melee kills so you usually see them running right at you. Before they got to you even after you spotted them, now that they know I am carrying a RPG not afraid to blow myself up along with them, they dont rush as they used to. C4s are easy to take out with the RPG too, no more ADS to take them out one by one.

The Rocket Launcher only has one rocket so dont worry it wont be abused like it was in KZ2. In KZ3, it just evens the odds against snipers and infiltrators who not only have ARs, but also pistole shotguns.

EDIT: Just came back from Target who apparently are selling this game early. I saw the game sitting on the shelf, my heart stopoed beating i swear. But the freaking thing didn't ring up at the register. This sucks because I have a long weekend coming up and I really wanted to play through the campaign this weekend. Dont like games getting released in the middle of the week, i liked how KZ2 was released on Friday. That's how it should be.

Played some KZ2 earlier tonight to get some comparison. The online is pretty messed up right now. Barely 15 rooms on the U.S server and almost all of them have Rocket launchers enabled. It's a mess. The ones without RPGs are filled with over powered turrets and people camping spawn grenades (thanks to GG taking away the spawn invulnerability. KZ3 is better in almost every regard.

The single player on the other hand controls like a dream. It's very responsive even with all the weighty controls. Playing with the crosshairs and getting headshots firing from the hip feels so rewarding. i love playing this game without the crosshair.

The graphics are still great but definitely not on par with the clean image quality of the KZ3 demo. It actually seems a bit muddy/blurry in comparison. The gunplay however is rock solid. Not as much variety in the levels but when it comes to gunplay, there is still nothing like this out there. I remember Criterion trying market Black as gun porn, but IMO KZ2 nailed the gun porn right. Shooting a gun never felt so good.

I'm gonna try the demo but I'm not sure if I really want to go any further with the franchise. I haven't really been able to get into KZ2 I bought itfor $29.99 a year back I think and I still have yet to finish the campaign. I think I'm about half way through. It doesn't really do anything for me. A lot of people are saying KZ3's campaign sucks yet reviewers are still giving it high scores.....riiiighhht makes perfect sense. How much are they paying you Gamespot??? What a joke.

I enjoy what I've seen of the two Helghast leaders butting heads, so I'm pretty sure I'll like some of KZ3's story.

Sounds like a good list of changes from the beta. The sprinting really did need a change.

I hope you are not basing this off the trailer. Because all of that head butting seems to take place in the same cutscene and snippets were taken for the trailer. Its easy make the game look good in a trailer when you just show good bits. Im sure the reviewers wailed on the story for a reason. They can't all be wrong

A lot of people? The game isnt even out yet. Who are these people?

GAF has a few people who were able to get the game early and they have been raving about the campaign. They are saying the scores are not high enough.

The story seems to be the only negative about this game, but after playing KZ2, Halo 3, MW2 and BLOPS in the last couple of years, story is something I dont expect much from shooters.

This is why crysis 2 with a 10+ hour campaign will be great

Amazon offering $20 credit if you preorder KZ3. Their pre-order price is $57.99 and they are charging only $1 for release date delivery. Add in no taxes, $2 I get for using their credit card and the $20 credit, and I am getting the game for only $35.

Amazon. Is. Awesome.

P.S You also get the retro map pack for free. No more drinking slurpies and killing yourself for two maps. :P

Excellent Move demo/tutorial. By TTP over at neogaf.

This is probably the best tutorial, informational video I've seen on Move. By the time you've watched ten minutes, you'd be sold on Move. The video starts off slowly as he takes you through how you should be holding the controller, but then the multiplayer footage (only open beta footage so no spoilers) starts and man it looks awesome with the Move.

A couple of things that I learned from the vid. Dont hold up the controller like it's a light gun, rest it on your lap. Second, Dont try to turn so you can bring your target to the middle of the screen, the whole point of Move is that you can aim ANYWHERE on the screen, so just point an shoot as long as your enemy is on the screen.

Gaf is reporting that health has been increased in the multiplayer!

OP updated to look like an official OP. Though, it probably doesn't look like one.

Media blackout payed off for me! The snow level (demo?) blew my freaking mind. Overall this is a MUCH more fun game than 2 imo. I miss the motion blur, recoil (maybe not as much) and a few things here and there but its really really good and definitely better. I'm playing on veteran and I've died a lot, but nothing frustrating so far because I just love the mechanics so much and most deaths are my fault. A little too much running and gunning for my own good but tactful play pays off. I do wish they made the animations a little more exaggerated like they were when KZ2 was first shown to the public but its still the best in the business.

Oh I was going to make an official thread btw, I saved some banners and info, you saved me some time :P

I'm maybe an hour in and very impressed. Playing on hard the Helghast take as many bullets as one would expect of guys wearing full body armor and the AI is just as strong as that of KZ2 (something which really only comes to play in the more open areas). Even within the ruins of the nuked city, there is much more variety in level design than KZ2. And there was a scene which involved machines which wasn't a total surprise but which was incredibly cool and makes me look forward to future fights.

Playing on veteran as well, I think its perfectly fine the difficulty here; somewhat challenging but not frustrating. The firefights are really much more enjoyable than Killzone 2 IMO, haven't had this much fun in firefights since HL2 and FEAR. The AI is smart, and the environments nail what the game is aiming for. The level design is well so far, graphics are the best I've seen on consoles.

Anyway, here are some cool stats about Killzone 3. Can't play it because of an trophy error code. Wish I could tho. Have you heard of the problem or its solution?

Go to you Game Data Utility on the XMB (Under Game) and see if there is a Killzone data file. Delete it, it's probably a bad install.

Sync your trophies to the server, you cant play single player or just mutliplayer?

Looks like I am the only one playing the game on Normal. Yeah, it definitely feels a bit easier but I am playing with Crosshair off so it's been a bit challenging. The controls definitely feel great, i am popping headshots easily. Guns still feel great, the vibration, the sound effects all come together to make shooting feel a lot more exhilirating than it was in KZ2. And I just beat KZ2 again yesterday.

I wont even talk about the graphics because the game looks gorgeous. Uncharted 2 and GoW3 have been topped. I think it's the artstyIe and colors that make this game look arguably the best looking game out there because they have definitely toned down the blur and film grain.

Oh I was going to make an official thread btw, I saved some banners and info, you saved me some time :P

PM me the banners and whatever info you had, I will include it in the thread. Didnt want to create a new thread.

That machine scene was a total surprise to me, I was like wtf is that thing! Mech on Mech battle, so awesome!

I have been very impressed with the storytelling so far. It's standard military stuff but a hundred times better than KZ2. It actually helps flow the gameplay segments pretty well. I LOVED how they pick it up straight after the ending of KZ2, was awesome to see Rico getting treated like a pos he is. the cutscenes look fantastic too.

Man the jungle level was great. Was totally not expecting it, such a nice change of pace after the first two explosive hours. Took me a good one hour and 15 minutes, died a lot but it was pretty badass.

I'm also really digging the story,=. yes, it's standard military stuff but definitely done better than most games. Reach tried to tell a tale of a squad in the middle of a huge war, but KZ3 does it way more efficiently. It doesn't quite capture the almost poetic tone of Reach, but it's more of an action blockbuster and a very effective one at that. Really like the voice acting, Narville all of a sudden is a badass. Sev and Rico do a pretty good job too. I remember Sev had like two scenes in the first six chapters of KZ2, I always thought he had potential to be a good character. Here he gets a lot more screentime and he definitely fits the hero type.

Back when i first played KZ2, i played the first four missions and dove straight into the multiplayer. Not gonna happen this time. The campaign is simply excellent. The end of the jungle level is such a fantastic set piece. Simple in premise, yet you dont see that in many shooters. Fighting a losing battle has never been this fun.

Agreed, that level was rad. Over on Neogaf I was saying months back how I wish GG would put a level like this in the game, just a silencer and using stealth. I loved those levels back in the Goldeneye days and Syphon filter, needless to say, I was thrilled when I played it. Than the next level (haven't played the demo) rocked my socks with a mixture of platforming, awesome action, great change of scenery, increase in difficulty and impressive enemy placement/level design. So far so good.

I love the mechs. They are weighty but fast moving and agile (their jump is great).

I'm relieved that Guerilla's determination to mix things up more didn't result in lower quality AI (FEAR and KZ2 had a lot in common and in part because they both recieved similar criticism I was afraid that FEAR 2 and KZ3 would have a lot in common).

Rico seems to be really good about healing (at least early in). If you die in front of a machinegun turrent, he won't be able to get to you and if you die too often (more than twice) in the same segment he explains that the drugs don't work any more.

Yeah, even though the game is more action packed than KZ2, the AI and gun battles are just as solid. I dont get reviewers comparing this to COD or that Eurogamer guy complaining that KZ has lost its soul. Couldnt be more far from the truth. Dont even get me started on people who complained about the story.

I really like the new cover mechanics and being able to vault out of cover like in Uncharted 2. there is a really cool battle in Chapter 4 which i kept losing because of mortors, but then I accidently pressed L2 and Sev leaped to cover and got behind it, all in one motion. I kept vaulting from one cover to the next and beat the mini boss in no time. It was so freaking awesome.

Just got done with the snow level and I found it harder than the demo version, don't know if its just me. I find the pacing excellent and the battles are engaging and challenging, this game>>>Killzone 2 by far.

Just got done with the snow level and I found it harder than the demo version, don't know if its just me.

D3s7rUc71oN

Thank you. I was gonna come in here and say the same thing. Died quite a bit during the jet pack segments. Seems like Helghast never miss when they shoot at you flying on a Jetpack. The game's definitely gotten tougher. You guys playing on Veteran have your work cut out for you.

I really have to say that every chapter so far has been better than the last. I really liked the jungle level after the crazy first three chapters then the snow level was actually better than it was in the demo, was pleasently surprised with it. It was long too. Fighting Helghast on Jetpacks while on a Jetpack made for some awesome battles. Headshots are still one hit kills even on dudes wearing jetpacks so I resorted to that after dying the 5th time. :P

The chapter after the snow level is also pretty awesome. I wont say why because i dont want to spoil it but i loved it. The level after that looked so good that I HAD to stop.

I dont want this game to end. :(

lol just saw the gayest scene ever in a video game. I know Dragon Age 2 is supposed to allow you to have a gay romance, but KZ3 has already done that IMO. This is as gay as it gets, there is no other way to interpret that scene.

I thought the stealth in the jungle level was very basic (the Helghast were afflicted with the nearsightness that marks almost all adversaries in stealth games) but it was nice that the developer dialed it down for a bit. The fight(s) once the sneaking ending was brutal.

I'm still in the middle of the snow chapter (had to stop midway to go to work) but yeah, its tougher than the demo, even on the same level of difficulty.

Primarily a SP gamer. Online is fun but some take it way too serious, and that makes me start to get serious, and that's not why I play games. Looking forward to playing the sp though.

Playing this with the Move has been a total nightmare. I can never find a really satisfactory setting, and the only default setting they bothered to build in just sucks. Then of course my Move is really random about when it works, and when I have to re-calibrate a billion times. Checkpoint spread is not satisfactory, and the normal difficulty level is maddeningly player punishing. Played with a controller and enjoyed the superior controls, but the other flaws still exist, and quite frankly the second game looked better, and had better atmosphere. It played better as well, overall. Super disappointed with it, and the Move. Taking both for trade in credit in the morning, maybe even the PS3 as a whole, the whole experience has been tainted, for me.

I'm playing on hard and am not having a problem (yes, its tough, but haven't hit any brick walls) so if you consider normal 'player punishing' perhaps you shoud start playing games on easy or something.

The death checkpoints are fine IMHO, but I agree that itstrange thatthe spacing for the save continue checkpoints is wider than the spacing for the death checkpoints.

As for you Move complaint, it makes sense. After reading about people offering Youtube tutorials and whatnot for calibrating the Move, I decided not to play KZ3 with the Move out of the box.

Your complaint about the graphics is just bizarre. I played through KZ2 multiple times and the graphics of three exceed it in every way (bigger battlefields, more interactive stuff, more particle effects and what have you).

Damn! lol

Did you play the demo with the move? Didnt you get used to it there? Move is definitely not for everyone, what made you start your first playthrough wih it? I dont like that there isnt a preset setting with the Move that works for everyone but that's simply not possible. It's not like the Mouse/Keyboard combination which is why I am glad GG gave us so many options to tweak. The setting is different for everyone and the tools are there to make sure you can customize it to your liking.

Watch this video. It explains how the thing works, and the guy is so good with it that he makes it look too easy. A lot of really informative stuff in there so be sure to check it out.

I really liked my time with the Move in the demo, but i simply couldnt get used to it. I will definitely do a Move run but no way in hell was I going to play with Move on my first playthrough. I never had to recaliberate it. See if there is any light sources it's picking up. I saw a video on youtube where this guy had his window open and the sun was f****ing with it. he tried it at night and it worked flawlessly.

Cant disagree more about the Normal difficulty being too punsihing. It is definitely easier than KZ2's difficulty, and now with Rico reviving you multiple times each life, and superior controls things have only gotten easier. I've died very few times and most of the times because I was getting too cocky and ended up behind enemy lines. Which part frustrated you the most?

THe graphics have definitely been improved, but yeah I can see why some may prefer the original. KZ2 had per object blur, fantastic wind effects and a grainy filter that combined to give it a very CGi look. KZ3 tones down the motion blur and the grain filter for a more clearer picture and it results in a far superior looking experiece. Did you play the junkyard level yet? The textures and detail is insane. I have never seen anything like it. Detail overload. I played and beat KZ2 again just this week and the textures are blurry and the draw distance isnt that impressive. KZ3 has massive levels and its insane that they were able to put in that much detail in these huge levels.

In short, calm down. :P PS3 is going to have an incredible year. You dont want to miss out on the last guardian, uncharted 3, infamous 2, resistance 3 because you had a bad experience with Move. it's definitely not for everyone.

Yeah it's kinda disappointing they didn't go too ambitious with the enemy stealth routines, but I really liked the fact that you had to pick and choose who to kill first. Enemy soldiers can spot dead bodies so even if you shot him and no one noticed you shoot him, they would be alerted to your presence if they found the body. It gave each area a very strategic feel to it.

Chapter 8 or 9 or whatever that MAWLER chapter is, is THE most amazing audio/visual spectecle i have ever seen. It rivals the GOW3 opening sequence but the audio and lighting puts it above it. Awe inspiring.

Just made it to the junkyard (decided to take a break) but I was hugely impressed by the lab. Its not only vast but really gorgeous. Fighting in the labs (which were crowded with things that exploded and shattered) was incredibly fun. Also, the special gun one finds is very effective and extremely brutal.

That gun is my favorite thing in the game. Probably my favorite weapon of all time. It's not just that they explode, it's how the gun feels when you fire it in single bursts. Very scifi-ish, for a second there I thought i was playing Resistance. In fact, playing that level made me excited for Resistance 3 because it reminded me of how awesome weapons felt in Resistance 1.

The ending sure is wtf worthy. They spent more time on the credits than on the ending cutscene which was definitely disappointing given how abundant the cutscenes had been prior to that point. Other than that, i LOVED the storytelling in this game. The story isnt all that, but i liked the helghan side of the story and the military banter b/w Narville and Sev/Rico. The cutscenes really do a great job of explaining what in the world is going on, something most FPS games try to do ingame and fail miserably at it. I think HL2 is the only game that did story ingame without breaking away for cutscenes and did it successfully (bar the ending), so it's good that Guerrilla went cutscene heavy. They look gorgeous, are acted rather well and the script is strong i.e., not cringeworthy. It's basically what I wanted Halo Reach's story to be like. I really hope Guerrilla ignores all the criticisms of the story because it's really solid and definitely better than every other shooter out there. THere are some odd cuts and fades and the audio isnt spot on at times but it's more due to the fact that they ran out of time. Something that also hurt the 'fun' factor of the last couple of levels. They were visually very impressive but not as fun to play as the first 7 or 8 levels.

But yeah, they game is definitely not short. It's not long like Castlevania or Uncharted 2, but it took me a little over 9 hours. More than my KZ2 or Halo Reach time. Definitely not a COD campaign. Another misconception that's been floating around with this game. One of few.

First of all, ive been raving about Operations since the open beta, of course its awesome. :P

Secondly,
I'm not talking about the Helghan getting nuked. im talking about the ending after the credits. The Helghast soldiers find someone, and say welcome home sir. That person is Visari. Sev didnt miss the nuke, it definitely made contact with the ship. The big nuke was inside the ship and it went off. Lame yeah, but what can you do.
Solid, thus far I like KZ3's story too. When I read reviewers talking about how they didn't like the plot because characters were clearly good or evil and that the good guys were gung-ho and never expressed regret about the conflict, I decided they and I were looking for very different things in our action game plots :P.

Lol exactly. I am curious to see what games KZ is getting compared to here because none of the FPSs I've played this gen have deep characters. Most have mute protaganists and dont even bother with any sort of characters development. Here is a game that tells BOTH sides of the story which is something even a game like Uncharted 2 didn't do. I liked Lazarovich but the dude barely got any screen time of his own. Here you finally get to see the Helghan cabinet and see two guys go head to head, it makes for some pretty facinating stuff. I was disappointed with Malcolm Mcdowell's voice acting in GoW3 but here he is fantastic, so is Ray Winstone who is also an a-hole like Visari but not as nutty as this Stahl guy.

And the military dynamic is raelly well done too. At first I found myself agreeing more and more with narville, but then towards the end I realized that perhaps Narville isnt the best man to lead this mission.

The ONLY thing i didnt like was the abrupt editing during the cutscenes. There is actually a whole cutscene missing, you will know when you get there. But it's minor when you take into account how fantastic the rest of the storytelling has been. Like I said earlier, the cutscenes make sure you know exactly whats going on and what the next objective is. And that's what good video game stories should do anyway, move the narrative along.

EDIT: Started reading the GS review just now. This was in the first paragraph.

"The storytelling is so awful as to be embarrassing, yet there's so much more story than before, and its frequent interruptions injure the flow of the single-player campaign."

Embarrassing? KZ2's foul mouthed characters and dialogue was embarassing. MW2 was embarrassing. I really dont see how this story is awful or embarrassing. I just dont.

Some mp impressions.

The framerate is atrocious in some of these maps. Saluman market looks phenoemal but it also runs at 10fps. Not kidding, play it. It literally crawls at times.

Then there is the other snow map in Operations, not the one in the demo. Again, 15-20fps. It's borderline unplayable.

Finally there is the mp map based on the Kaznan Jungle. It is quite possibly the worst map every made. Disorienting, tunnels everywhere, you never see anyone before they kill you because they are hiding behind a curve, it's just awful.

The map quality isnt all that great. The spawn points in most operations are not well thought out, and most times its defense feasting on the offense. But that's okay, i am sure good teams will learn the maps and figure out a way. But the frame rate issue is absolutely unacceptable. You guys will see when you play some of these maps. I remember every single KZ2 map running smooth as better and the framerate only dropping during crazy explosions. And once we banned RPGs and Grenade Launchers, it was pretty manageble. This is just plain bad.

Blood Grach, the other retro mp pack is absolutely gorgeous. I cant even better to describe how awesome it looks now. Saluman Market looks great too but the terrible framerate just makes it unplayable.

Updated mp impressions....... It's awesome. lol

Played for almost six hours straight. most of them with F1. Great games F1, it sucks that there is no squad respawn. We were hardly ever together. Great job surviving that assasination attempt. Usually people f*** that up by going out in the open but you somehow survived it. I got 8 straight kills defending you, and like four after you went down. LMGs are awesome!

BTW, the trick with the LMG is to never shoot it from the hips. You wont hit s***. Always aim down sights and since there is no recoil, just keep the trigger on and wait for the crosshair to get the aiming lock. They go down pretty fast plus you dont have to worry about reloading since it has like 200 bullets in each clip allowing you to take down multiple enemies at once.

Kinda sad Warzone isnt what it used to be. Maybe it's because i am not used to the maps yet but i had literally no clue what was going on. Spawn grenades in KZ2 ensured that everyone spawned closed to the objectives which means everyone knew where to go. Now not so much. Still got 47 kills which is like 3 short of my highest kills round in KZ2 so I was happy with it.

Had no connection issues aside from the Games locking out, but was able to connect to mp just fine. Open Beta was a mess so very relieved to see those problems have been ironed out.

Just got this yesterday and I'm very impressed. If anything it looks even better than K2 (much brighter and sharper) and while I'm still not totally sold on the 'COD-a-like' control style it hasn't hampered my enjoyment in any way.

Also, does anyone know why the Helghast higher-ups have hair? I was under the impression that Helghan's caustic environment rendered its people hairless.
