Does being right make you happy? Why can't we just DISREGARD MY PREVIOUS COMMENT THAT DROVE YOU TO POINT OUT MY FLAWS!??! Do you want to make me cry?[QUOTE="DestroyMonsters"][QUOTE="Skylock00"] 1. No need for the attitude.
2. Your point is still wrong, more disk space isn't more memory. In terms of core functionality and power, all SKUs of the PS3 are fairly identical, IIRC, aside from the original 20GB model, which had some features cut from it way back when, but then was phased out shortly after.MarcusAntonius
You made some incorrect statements, switch to decaf and settle down. No one is giving you a hard time.
Yeah, just relax dude. We're a pretty relax bunch here, this isn't system wars, no one's out to get you.
[QUOTE="rragnaar"]Sony just recently patented the ability to emulate the PS2's GPU on the PS3 not too long ago. I wouldn't count BC out. They are definitely working on it.S0lidSnake
This.
I just love how BC is a big issue all of a sudden.
150 milion PS2s out there, but people are so upset about PS3 not being to play PS2 games that they're willing to skip the PS3 altogether. Sony can drop the price to $99 and some people still wont buy one.
I couldn't ever go back to using a PS2 on an HDTV. Upconverted games just look too good.rragnaar
All I'm saying is that if PS3 games can't sell people on a PS3 then no amount of backwards compatibility will.
It's getting the original Xbox treatment. Some people just wouldn't buy one no matter how many great games it produced or how many price drops it got.

I agree to a point, but I understand why people want BC.[QUOTE="S0lidSnake"]

It has always been an issue for me. And I have a functioning PS2. But let me ask you, have you ever tried playing one on an HDTV? If not, it's very far from pretty.
Especially if you're a big enough fool to try and do so with a composite connection (as I'm forced to do ATM)...it's not pleasant at all, to say the least.[QUOTE="S0lidSnake"][QUOTE="rragnaar"]Sony just recently patented the ability to emulate the PS2's GPU on the PS3 not too long ago. Forgot to type what I had to say about the quote :lol, anywho, BC is important to me, from the get go, that's why I bought a 60G instead of the 80G, I had no choice but to either buy a 60G or buy a ps2, because, well. I left my original ps2 slim halfway across the country when I moved to Kentucky....Especially if you're a big enough fool to try and do so with a composite connection (as I'm forced to do ATM)...it's not pleasant at all, to say the least.Skylock00
That's how I'm set up, at the moment. I had component cables. But then my sister decided it would be a good idea to loose them when she put my PS2 in her room, without asking. It's like smearing a thin layer of vaseline over an SD television. I hate it! :x

I love being able to play my PS2 games on my PS3 and like Skylock said, the internal PS2 Memory Cards are a thing of beauty.

My TV only has one component input, which is designated for the Wii. I think I'll drag out my old component switchbox, and hook up the PS2, PSP, and Wii to that sometime in the near future just to make things easier.[QUOTE="S0lidSnake"][QUOTE="rragnaar"]I couldn't ever go back to using a PS2 on an HDTV. My Wii hasn't gotten any real use since Madworld came out, in March. So, I really don't mind switching cables every few months. :P

Okay... have any of you noticed that in comparison to the slims of the old PS's the ps3 slim isn't that much smalller than the original, it most likely has to do with the tech, but the ps2 slim was tiny and it was one of the most advanced systems of it's time, but they managed to make it pretty small...AzelKosMosIt's because the original PS2 had a space for an HDD that outside of Japan to my knowledge was never used so making a slim was much easier as taking that out alone made a ton of room. Oh, I didn't relize that, I never even owned a full size ps2....

That works as a huge beacon for Vader. :PSony just recently patented the ability to emulate the PS2's GPU on the PS3 not too long ago. I wouldn't count BC out. They are definitely working on it.rragnaarThat's something that's always mystified me - is that patent any different than what was in place with the Motorstorm/MGS4 bundled PS3s with software BC? As far as I know there's nothing different between my MGS4 unit and the ones released after...other than the card reader and two extra USB ports. I still don't know why they axed it completely, unless there was one tiny piece of hardware left to help with some of the emulation. I still think the patent is meant more for the future release of PS2 games on the PSN store, with emulation support on a per-game basis, and that they cut out software BC in order to grow a userbase of barebones PS3 users who would buy PS2 games online versus playing their own hard copies.

The MGS4 PS3 had partial software emulation, and a little bit of the PS2's guts inside. From what I understand it emulated the Emotion Engine, but they needed the actual PS2 GPU in there to make it work.

it says 299 euros, but what about british pounds? the converter says 299 euros = £256.97. but if the UK RRP is the same as the euro RRP, then that's hardly a price cut at all. the PS3 is currently about £300 already.

Speaking of FFXI, does anybody know how much the box set cost? I WANT TO BUY IT! But I have no money.... :(The MGS4 PS3 had partial software emulation, and a little bit of the PS2's guts inside. I wonder if a fully software-based BC solution would be even buggier than mine, and have less support. I see them going the 360 route and focusing on the more popular and/or easier to emulate games.

What About AQUA AQUA!? WHAT ABOUT AQUA AQUA!? :((
BC on the PS3 was always a big deal for me, especially from the standpoint of limited inputs on the TVs I was using, and also from the standpoint of memory card management. Virtual memory cards on the PS3 are almost a requirement for me when I'm doing RPG runs and such on PS2 games. Really, the only reason why I haven't ditched my PS2 altogether is due to the PS3 not being compatible with PS2 controllers, like my light guns, DDR pads, and Beatmania controller.
I wouldn't have gotten a PS3 when I did aside from the fact that I wanted guaranteed BC right off the bat.Skylock00
Exactly correct, except that I actually have ditched my PS2 at this point. For my purposes, The 60gb PS3 is a far better PS2 than the PS2 was, period. Wireless controllers, unlimited memory cards, and HDMI.
That thing is ugly. Really, really ugly. I'm happy with my 60gb
The price drop is nice for those who don't own one yet

Wireless controllers, unlimited memory cards, and HDMI.Dire_WeaselEven the 80GB one is a pretty competent PS2. I still have my PS2 in the closet, but I haven't hooked it up since I bought my PS3 last summer. The wireless isn't an issue for me (I still own an Airstyle), but taking up fewer inputs on my TV, less clutter on my cabinet, and virtual memory cards (even if they like to corrupt) are reason enough.
It's because the original PS2 had a space for an HDD that outside of Japan to my knowledge was never used so making a slim was much easier as taking that out alone made a ton of room.[QUOTE="AzelKosMos"][QUOTE="DestroyMonsters"] Okay... have any of you noticed that in comparison to the slims of the old PS's the ps3 slim isn't that much smalller than the original, it most likely has to do with the tech, but the ps2 slim was tiny and it was one of the most advanced systems of it's time, but they managed to make it pretty small...Phantom_Leo

I'm the loser who bought this crap too. Oh how I feel like an idiot.
In any case, I think the PS3 Slim looks ok. It isn't as appealing aesthetically and functionality wise as the 20GB, 60GB, and early 80GB PS3's. If it had backwards compatibility, I would have traded in my old 40GB, now 120GB, PS3 in a heartbeat. For a PS3 owner, this doesn't excite me. To a gamer who is on the fence of getting a PS3, they should be excited. Not only could they buy a regular 80GB PS3 now for $300, they could wait 2 weeks to buy the new look version for the same price. It's a win/win situation for gamers who were holding off because of the price.
Gosh, I know it's gonna be sold for $300, but does it really have to look that ugly? :( Needs that shine and it's original silver Playstation 3 logo at least :x
