So, instead of holding online play hostage for $50/year, Sony is holding Cross-game chat hostage.
I am not amused.
Hmmm, this whole HD remastered Collections is starting to worry me... But I would still go for an Ico/SoTC collection :PHere is that trailer for the Sly Cooper collection. I've never played them before, so I'll have to pick this up.:)

Wow. Microsoft is off the hook for this year's E3, IMO. Sony's presentation was really dull and disappointing. There was practically nothing new for them to discuss except for their half-hearted attempt at motion sense gaming and their lame attempt at an online store. Sony just went through the motions when they should have given people more of a reason to tune in.
I guess no PSP2 for now. Sure its nice that there are more PSP games on the way out, but we already knew that.:|
Sony's conference was lackluster and boring. The games looked great but not many of them interested me. I am so disappointed that The Last Guardian wasn't shown. The best portion of the show was the Kevin Butler appearance. I love me some Kevin Butler. The man is extremely funny and entertaining. LBP2 looks to be a stellar sequel and I am actually hyped for the new Twisted Metal game.
Overall, nice try Sony.

They just weren't very bold at a time where they needed to pull out all the stops. Nintendo and especially MS put it all on the line and really had significant things to show.
I was reading that the "free" games can't be played if you cancel PSN Plus, which means they aren't actually free at all. They're over glorified rentals. They really didn't show me anything special here at all, and I was let down that the PS2 classics downloads isn't a thing. (I was expecting that to be a thing) Oh well.SteveTabernacleWow. Really? Well if that's the case then forget it, I won't be subscribing at all then. Very disappointing to hear that.
They had me at automatic download *heart* SOLD. Wait does this cost $200 a year? .... waaa? o_0Info on PSN Plus:
Hi Everyone, you may have heard in all the E3 hype that we are launching a new premium subscription service called PlayStation Plus in just a weeks time, so I just wanted to give you all a quick heads up on what you can expect to get from this great new service so you have all the info before launch on the 29th June.
The first thing to note is that PlayStation Network is still free to join and all the current features will remain free. PlayStation Plus will be offering you a service above and beyond this, including loads of content and exclusive, member-only, PSN features.
From 29th June you'll be able to purchase a 1 year or 90-day membership from PlayStation Store and instantly get your hands on the following premium features. Plus, if you sign up for a 1 year membership between 29th June and 3rd August, we'll also throw in a free downloadable copy of the award winning LittleBigPlanet.
Games:
As a member you can expect to get your hands on at least four games a month at no extra charge. Each month there will be a selection of one PSN game, two minis and one PS one ****cs available on PlayStation Store for you to download. You also get premium avatars and dynamic themes each month, many of which are exclusive to members.
Talking of exclusive, there will also be discounts available on loads of PlayStation Store content, just for members, so make the most of them as these will change each month as well.
Finally, wherever possible we'll be making sure that members are included in some selected demos and beta trials before they go live to the public so you can be the one to tell all your mates about the next big game they 'must' get.
Just the games, avatars and themes alone are worth at least £200* per year, so even before the other benefits, this service is great value for money
Full Game Trial:
This premium feature gives you the chance to try PSN and Blu-ray disc titles before you buy them in a whole new way. We are not talking normal demos of selected parts of a game here. With Full Game Trial, you can download the full game and play it as if you owned it for approximately one hour, depending on the game, before you decide if you want to buy it or not. So you can check out the online modes, play against friends or anything else you'd normally do with a game.
The other great thing is that your progress and trophies from the trial will all be unlocked if you buy the game so no need to go back and start again.
Automatic Download:
We wanted to offer members the speediest service possible so sign up and you can set your PS3 to automatically receive the latest game updates for all the games you play, PS3 system software updates and even have game demos sent directly to your PS3 without lifting a finger.
Just set the time you want to receive them and your PS3 will automatically wake up and download everything, ready for when you next want to play. No more waiting to play your favourite game because there is a new patch or having to remember when the latest system software is launching, let your PS3 do the work.
Details of this great new service, including a list of content available for the first 2 months will be on playstationplus.com between now and the 29th, but don't forget to get on the Store and sign up before the 3rd August to get the added bonus of a free copy of LittleBigPlanet.
It would be great to hear what you guys think of this new service and I'll be back one here on Wednesday morning to try and answer any questions you have.At least you get games out of it so you may make your money back, of course you have no choice of the game. Its a choice so in the end it doesn't matter.

I'm watching the Sony conference on G4 (Tivoed it). I don't see why they are starting off with 3D (how many dozen's of people will buy 3D tvs in the next year?).
I guess its good that all the KZ3 previews/peeks are focused on level 4. No point spoiling everything. The jetpacks make for some entertaining deaths. The manuverability of the hero when wearing a jetpack will certainly make the AI's life more complicated. The bit where one was gunning down enemies from the dropship was really cool.
I don't see why Sony is focusing so much on 3D given the high cost of the technology.
I really dislike montages, I'd rather see a few minutes of footage of a couple games than a few seconds of lots of games.
Why is Sony pushing the PS2? Its awesome that they continue to support it, but pushing it at E3 is weird.
Now developers are telling us how great Move is (why isn't Sony showing us how great Move is?).
Sorcery's looks awesome. The graphics are merely okay, but the spells and the ability to combine them could make for some really interesting gameplay provided one goes against well designed enemies (the goblins were cool, but I'll be disappointed if one winds up wading through dungeons full of them).
The golf thing was a nice tech demo, but I'm not a golf fan.
I'm a little hazy about the Gameplay of Heroes on the Move (the game with Sly and Ratchet).
Kevin Butler is hilarious.
80 bucks for theboth Move controllers isn't bad.
Nice PSP ads but its stupid that the GoW preview didn't have any gameplay footage.
I hate montages, but the few seconds of Patapon 3, Valkyria Chronicles 2, Persona 3and Kingdoms Hearts looked good. Still, the lack of major new announcements indicates that Sony is phasing it out (I said the same thing two years ago, but with the 3DS hitting I'm sure I'm right this time).
LBP2! Finally. Wow. People stretched LBP in some weird directions, but looking at the what some of the creators did in less than 24 hours (a Rez knockoff :D ) LBP2 is going to really let the creative community cut loose. The gap between LBP and Kodu (a MS game creation tool which didn't get much attention from consumers or support from MS) has been closed.
Playstation Plus doesn't exactly thrill me, but if 50 bucks will get me into the LBP2 beta, I'll pay.
Sony's getting into the exclusive content thing *yawn*. They ought to spend the money on funding original games. MoH looks nice though. If it avoids the weak AI and infinite respawns of the game its imitating, I might give it a shot. Dead Space 2 looked great as well (the original is a truer sequel to RE4 than RE5).
Its cool that Gabe Newell has made peace with Sony. Hopefully the next L4D will hit the PS3. I can't say I'm excited by Portal 2 (the game I focused on when I had the Orange Box on the X360 was Half Life 2, not Portal) but I'll keep an eye on it.
FF14 looks nice. Too bad its an MMO...
The AC Multiplayer looked pretty cool. Different from the norm.
Gran Turismo 5 looks insane. I might have to ask my car nut brother to come by andtweak my cars for me, but I'll buy it.
Infamous 2 looks tight (love that big beast that finished off the commercial).
Twisted Metal looks awesome. That 'sacrafice the enemy leader to take out their idol' thing was really cool. I spent a ridiculous amount of time playing TMB singleplayer, so I hope that Jaffe has put as much effort into the single player (and the characters and cutscenes) as he has the multiplayer.
I would have liked less talking and more extended gameplay footage and the lack of Starhawk and The Last Guardian was disappointing but still, they showed a lot of good stuff, so it was a great show.

I agree with you about Nintendo's showing, but I couldn't disagree with you more about MS's.
Like I said in the MS thread, I thought it was decent, but it was extremely conservative (Gears 3, Fable 3, Halo 4, periods of exclusivity for CoD DLC and a bunch of minigame collections).
Prior to the MS conference, I had predicted that MS would try to bridge the gap between core and casuals with some of its motion controlled games, but they proved me wrong.
Anyway, why do you think MS's conference was bold?
a no-show of the last guardian really brought sony's show down in my opinion. TLD is the crown jewel and they didn't show it.

Microsoft put it all on the line and then immediately lost the bet. Kinect is unappealing to its core market, period. The one "core" game they ran it with had to be set to auto-acceleration, auto-braking, and automatic transmission for it to work properly.
I'm not entirely sold on the move but I'm absolutely repulsed by Kinect.

My initial hope for that was something along the lines of "because of the continuing popularity of the PS2, software will be soon available on the PS3 to play your favorite PS2 titles."
Course that didn't happen. Thanks a bunch, Sony.
Just finished watching it. No Motostorm 3, no Last Guardian. No SOTC collection (who gives a **** about a Sly Collection?), A lame inFamous 2 trailer. 2 hours of talking talking talking.
Worst.Conference.Ever. Worst than Sony's E3 06 conference. At least they showed some exclusives back then. Seriously what a waste of two hours.

Yeah, I can see why they stripped the Emotion Engine from the PS3, but they should have introduced at least partial B/C via software.
Derp. I think you've forgotten E3 2006. This wasn't a fantastic conference, but it was way better that $599 and Giant Enemy Crabs.:PJust finished watching it. No Motostorm 3, no Last Guardian. They could have chopped the talking and focused more on games, but they showed some great stuff, some of which was exclusive, some of which wasn't but most of it was interesting (the minigame collections were limited to montages).

I can see why they didnt show that trailer. it looks kinda bad. :P Split Second looks a lot better, thought the building exploding at the end was pretty cool.
I just raed your impressions of the conference and you said it yourself, too much time was spent on 3D and montages. If you hold a two hour conference and leave out your most impressive game then you're clearly doing something wrong. I personally dont care for Twisted Metal so that ending did nothing for me. The graphics looked really average as well. Either way, not showing Starhawk or The Last Guardian is just too disappointing to me. Oh and if EA can HDify MOH Frontline then why cant Sony give us a Team ICO collection?
Okay, I finished watching the conference, and while there wasn't a whole lot that I thought was really interesting (I seriously don't care about 3D or the Move), I have to give Sony some credit for actually having some games to show, more than the mini game Mii too stuff Microsoft presented. A little bit bland, the Move looks like Wii HD, and it was cool seeing Kevin Butler and Gabe Newell show up as well. I chuckled a little at all the little jabs they were making at MS, and they got them beat with the motion control price point if MS is really shipping that thing out at 150 smackers. Anyway...
- Killzone 3 looks like Killzone 2, but that's not really a bad thing to me. Game still looks like a ton of fun to play. I have no idea why the guy wasn't aiming down the sites though. I thought he'd get killed on stage for playing so poorly, but then again, maybe he had to rush through the demo. Since they're not working on a new engine, this gives them more time to focus on fine tuning the experience. I'm expecting great things from K3.
- Sony Move doesn't really impress me, and the golf demo looked like it had quite a bit of delay to it. Sorcery looked a bit bland and gimmicky to me as well, and that Sony Heroes thing looks so... I don't know, souless. Every character looked liked it moved in robotic fashion, and that fighting game looked to sluggish and lacked any oomph that might have swayed me. I'm going to have to pass on this and Move on har har.
- Littlebig Planet 2! At first I was thinking "What the hell is this lame mini game **** ?" Then the last part of the footage really impressed me with all the stages, shooters and platforming alike. I certainly hope it isn't going to try and do so much that it fails to properly do anything, but I said wow and that footage towards the end.
- Why are they showing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare again? The game is already out now.
- Dead Space 2 looks awesome. Maybe a bit too cinematic compared to the first, I hope they don't take away too much control, but in any case I'm really excited about this one. I loved the first game, and everything is shaping up to be a great sequel.
- Portal 2 looks fantastic! At least Gabe was upforth with his comments on the system, but god dang... the only thing that would have made that better was if they announced Portal and started showing some Episode 3, but that's too unrealistic. I hyped for this.
Rest of the stuff was okay, but I've lost interest in GT5, and I was never a huge Twisted Metal Fan, but it looks interesting enough to give it a try. Overall, I thought the conference was pretty decent. Now, I need to go watch Nintendo's and call it a day.

as i recall it had a pretty awesome MGS4 trailer, Uncharted Drake's Fortune was unveiled for the first time, heavenly Sword had a great trailer and a couple of other games I cant remember. I just remember watching a lot of really cool trailers, yes there were giant enemy crabs and riiiidge racer, but they still showed games. Today they all just talked and talked and talked. I was bored out of my mind. I mean they really love to talk. They are like women these guys.

Kevin BUtler was hilarious. It was like watching a really funny comedian do stand up on the video games industry, my dream come true. :D Of course the jabs at Microsoft helped a lot. :P But i dont know why people think $130 for Move is a decent price point. It was hilarious to watch all the Sony fans go crazy after seeing that the wand costs $49 but if you wanna play a shooter or any core game, you will need both the wand and the nun chuck, and of course the $40 Eye Toy. thats $120 with no games.$130 with a free game if you do the bundle. I just bought a 360 for $149. a whole new console with two free games and a month of Xbox Live Gold. $130 for this is ridiculous.
KZ3 was freaking awesome. Watched with the ear phones plugged in, the sound effects were amazing.
LBP2 was the best game of the show for me. I cant believe UIF was dissing it, lol, i have no words. the footage towards the end was indeed wowsome.
Same here. I couldnt care less about GT5. It was yet another replay trailer. No word on any features, (track editor?) or damage or if the WRC stuff is real. Just a lame trailer. we have gotten over 10 in the last year alone.

Really? I like the trailer. *Shrugs* But I skipped Split Second (there is no car ramming, an omission which kind of turned me off), so you probably know more about SS than I do.
If you read my impressions you know that while I though the pacing was lacking and Sony's focus on 3D (especially in the first half hour) was insane, there was a lot of good stuff shown (seeing the gameplay footage of KZ3 was nice even without 3D googles).
As for TM not looking good, we have to agree to disagree.

you dont think the twisted metal footage looked kinda low res? even the screens you posted dont look all that great for a PS3 exclusive.
As for Split Second, i was mainly talking about the graphics when i said it "looks better than Motorstorm". I am sure Motorstorm 3 will have better gameplay.
I suppose i am just too disappointed about there being no last guardian footage. i think im just gonna go to bed and hopefully feel better tomorrow. :P
P.S No TEam ICO collection hurts the most. I know Last GUardian is coming so no worries there, but no Team Ico collection announcement means that it's probably too hard a task to remaster it.
I don't think Twisted Metal looks bad right now, just raw. Jaffe's games have never had a problem stressing the playstations they've appeared on. I'd be disappointed if the game came out looking like this, but I don't think it will.
Eitherway, flaming gurney = win. And CTF with cars? Color me intrigued.
KB stole the show, though. Probably the most surprising thing was seeing Newell on the stage. I mean, I was watching, half expecting to see him mouth down to the crowd "they've got my kids. Call 911!"

I was pissed about Last Guardian, doesn't change that it was a good conference. They showed games, real games, not crap like MS. It had its boring parts for sure. In the end no real game revealations outside of Twisted Metal so that is a let down. I get the frustration but it wasn't a disaster. What you are doing is complaining that you didn't get what you wanted.
Why show three EA games that were shown already yesterday? In principle it's a disaster because they preferred to show non-Sony games over Sony games at a Sony conference. It's like EA showing KZ3 over MOH at their press conference. Doesnt make sense.
P.S I really wanted to see a PSPhone. Games like Last Guardian, Motorstorm, and Starhawk to a lesser extent are games that SHOULD have been shown.

Confining presentations to one's own line-up makes sense for third parties, but not platform holders.
As for the PSPhone, I don't think aping the iphone would do Sony any wonders. Mostly in Japan, the PSP has put up good numbers (50,000,000+ is nothing to sneeze at). Rather than lurch after the competition, Sony should just release a cheaper PSP with dual analog sticks and a large hard drive.

I want demented characters, I want twisted endings... i hope that was just the mp and not the SP mode.Archangel3371From what I understand, that was MP, but I'm not 100% sure.Yep that was just mp they were showing. Personally I wasn't too impressed with it myself. I did enjoy Black in the day but perhaps I'm just not into TM anymore. I would have used something else for a stronger finish.
the internets loves Twisted Metal, even though it's practically a dead franchise. Sony got confused by Twusted Metal's vocal internet fanbase, guys who practically made Jaffe do Twisted Metal.
TM might actually be a good game, jaffe is a fantastic designer, but it's not a big franchise for Sony, at least not anymore. Huge mistake finishing with TM at their biggest conference.
, Sony should just release a cheaper PSP with dual analog sticks and a large hard drive.CarnageHeart
yet they didnt even do that. more than five years after it came out, it still retails for $169. More than a 360.

Even if it did happen, no PSP game will be configured to make use of the second analog. And yeah, a price should have been expected :? I want to freakin' play Peace Walker![QUOTE="CarnageHeart"][QUOTE="rragnaar"] From what I understand, that was MP, but I'm not 100% sure.smerlus
It was MP footage. I watched it on tv a couple times, so I'm 100% sure.
I just hope it's not an all MP game. I mean the things they showed didn't look too impressive. If it's just that it'll be almost like that Shadowrun FPS that just uses the name to hopefully wrangle some people in. Not excited at all until they show some real TM charactersMaybe I'm not understanding you, but Sweet Tooth is as real a TM character as it gets. The MP is faction based. Sort of like in MAG where you join Raven, so everyone you're playing with has that "Raven" look to them. In TM's multiplay, instead of Red vs Blue, you have Sweet Tooth's gang vs Doll Face's gang, or whoever. That's why there were so many clowns riding around.
They only showed two possible factions for their demo. If you look at the cars, though, you'll get an idea who is returning. In MP, even though you join a specific faction, you can still use the vehicles of other characters. That's why you see Doll Face riding around in an Ice cream truck in the demo. But there's a motorcycle, an ambulance and some others. Can't say who will be driving them, as the series has had a history of keeping the vehicles around while changing the drivers, but I'm sure there will be plenty of twisted characters.
Good question about the sp, though. I don't recall anyone saying anything about it, and given Warhawk, it's not out of the realm of possibility that this is mp only.
