I personally think that the art style of the trauma center games is fine for what it is. I think that if the game sought to look real (both in cut scene presentation and actual surgery gameplay) it may JUST alienate more audiences because then it can be construded as too gruesome.
Have you ever watched any of those programs on discovery health where they perform surgery? It doesn't bother me much because I work in the health field, but many people don't have the stomach for it.
I think given its current style, trauma center can pull more people into the surgery sim world while keeping it slightly light hearted and less nausea inducing.
And before people start making comparisons to games like re4 and gears of war, its all about context. The same people who can watch gory movies in theaters can't necessarily watch brain surgery performed on areal human being.
No it's your own prefered choice. If you don't like anime then you don't like it. Don't complain about how games have an artstyle you don't like. Saying that is shallow and you'll be missing out on loads of great games like Trauma Center.
Different people, different styles. Don't make an entire thread about an opinion because you already the know the answer to your own question. "Am I the only one that dislikes Anime?". You know that someones going to say they like it and someone else will say they don't. And then it'll cause some foolish argument over nothing important.
My apologies for being so....bitter but I get tired of threads like these. I leave these forums for a couple weeks and there's the exact same threads being made about the same things.

Why don't you come up with something then? Obviously there were enough people interested enough to warrant this thread.
Well, I hate anime, but i was on youtube the other day, and i came across a dragon ball episode, and i actually enjoyed it. I think the only reason i really liked it was because it had some pretty adult themes in it like death and love. Heh, yeah.R3volv3r_Snake
There's a lot of Anime shows like that. You just wouldn't know it buy watching the CartoonNetwork/Disney. Most of that is either targeted towards kids, or heavily censored and rewritten to make it more "kid friendly" (eg Sailor Moon, DBZ).
^^^^^^There cannot be an anime for everyone, b/c some people just hate the art style of anime.
First of all, people can like anime if they want. There's wrong about it. IMO though it is some of the worst entertainment out there. It was my dislike for that genre that kept me so pro XBox over the last generation. I knew I would never have to worry about them publishing some pokemon game. I could play my Tom Clancy games and Halo in peace.
I cannot stand anything in the anime genre. Like someone else said before me, even Midna in TP is bordering on my dislike. When I think of anime I think of all of the kids out there who will grow up watching Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, and other really crappy shows instead of the good old Looney Toons, Classic Nick Toons like Doug, and other quality shows. As far as the more mature anime, well I think I can find better entertainiment than a cartoon that has horrible voice acting and nearly identical artistic design across the board.
Once again, people can like anime if they want, and I'm not going to hate on them for it. I will continue to enjoy the more realistic games out there though.

Anime isn't a single art style. Sure, there's the popular style, but not everything coming out of Japan uses this one.

Please send me a pice then. I've seen a lot of anime (stocking it at Best Buy), and it all seemed to generally be the same art style.
i wouldnt really consider this an actual anime the style technically is manga cause it was out first.
are trying to say that anime art style is bad? but trying to get a realistic looking game on the Wii might be a bit difficult not saying its not impossible but it would be difficult i would likr there to be on it would be cool.
What a lot of people don't realise, is that anime is kinda like ordinary TV in japan, it's a sub of normal TV, and vastly popular. You got Anime action, adventure, romance, adult, horror, sci-fi etc, every genre you can imagine and a lot of different art styles. It's just like ordinary TV, soime you'll like some you won't, however, if you just don't like the style (ie: big eyes etc) then you just plain out won't like any of it, which is sad because a lot of anime's have great storylines. (Rurouni Kenshin, Full Metal Alchemist, Trinity Blood to name a few of my faves)SolemnJedi79
this guy's exactly right. You could be the girliest girl or the most rough tough guy, be into blood and gore or romance and love, and there will always be some kinda anime for your liking because this is what the japanese get all the time! I think its just aime-based games that p*** off some gamers. (i must admit they take up a large area of gaming stores) but anime still is on the television, not based soley around gaming. =P

QFT 100%
I mean, they show them in primetime, if fact they have a "Golden Hour" that they put there most popular animation's in.
But most of what get's licenced to North America are Action, Adventure's, Action/Adventure's or aimed a little kid's because that is what sell's the most. Other's get brougth over, of course, but they dont get much, if any, air time on TV and live through DVD sale's that the Hardcore fan's buy.

Damn Right. Anime is one of the best art ever created.
agreed, with naruto being on top.^^^^^^There cannot be an anime for everyone, b/c some people just hate the art style of anime.

Not all Anime is like that, but you have to like dubs to watch any really good anime.

^That's called Claymore, I started watching it last week and it's pretty good. It's a new series in Japan.
I still don't understand what this avoidence of cartoon like graphics.. Does it really matter in the end? This is like some one shirking off Mario Brothers 3 because its too cartoony.. It makes absolutly no sense what so ever.. Reminds me of Windwaker of the people complaining.. Odviouslly even if people hated them it still got rated as a AAA game in the end this rediculous prefrence is only limiting you from numerous solid games..
I'm not a huge big fanboy of anime but I like shounen jump anime like Dragon Ball andOne Piece and sci-fi mecha anime like Gundam or Macross.
If you think it's kiddy, watch episode 10 of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex where there's a serial killer who kills women by unskining them. Now, tell me if it's kiddy.
Fullmetal Alchemist, Bleach, Paranoia Agent, and Ghost in the Shell are the extent of my Anime Tastes.
Trauma Center works well with its art style , I also agree that there is room for a more realistic medical simulator, i can just see this sort of transition between a fire, and a peroson being loaded onto an ambulance, and the entire time you see everything through this doctors eyes, everything from the patient being loaded onto the strecther, then the gameplay is when you literally strap him in, give him an IV. Im thinking a Half-Life sort of game where its extremely cinematic, and interactive.

Damn Right. Anime is one of the best art ever created.
agreed, with naruto being on top.It sucks the style out of animation. Everybody looks the same, and they barely bring out any form of facial emotion.
Am I the only N fan that dislikes anime??? I would absolutely love trauma center if they gave it a more realistic style. I would like a surgery sim. I feel that it would also fit the more adult casual market very well. For instance, I could see my Mom/dad getting into a medical game, if it wasn't for that strange (imo) art design and rediculous soap opera dialogue. Not tryin to dis on fans of the series. It's just not my style. I do actually like the gameplay quite a bit.
Who else feels the same way?

i also dislike anime, the only anime that i've ever been interested is pokemon.. if that is anime...
and its not like ive ever tried to like anime, its just that i dont...
if i'm going to watch cartoon shows, then ill watch family guy or the simpsons...
and If i want to see hot girls and a lot of action, ill watch movies with REAL people...
so no, you are not the only one..
I'm an N fan that dislikes anime in general, but only because a majority of anime is pretty much all cookie-cutter. I'll watch anime for nostalgic reasons (I admit, back during the old Toonami days, I used to watch anime) and if the anime steps away from it's usual look-all-the-same tradition and tries something new instead of the generic crap.
I learned my lesson in life. Every time you get into a new anime series, a little of you dies inside.

No you're absolutely not alone. The only good anime I've ever seen was Spirited Away and that was plain amazing. No anime ever has an interesting story in my opinion. If Trauma Center has a more adult theme it would be more interesting but if the characters were animated I think it'd end up ugly looking. Don't know why but I think it just would.
No, both of you are wrong about Trauma Center.
The art style is perfect for a game like that because it's powered by cutscenes. Adding what you call "anime" to the mix gives the still images a sense of movement to an otherwise static scene.
I love the art style because realism is boring if it's in everything. You can only do so much if you're going with realism. On the other hand once you start to take in different styles you can expend on what characters can do and how they can react.

Why does anyone bother making posts like this?
Anyway, I think they could hit a good casual market with a Grey's Anatomy or ER game. I wouldn't buy it, but my mom would play it if she got it as a gift...
I don't understand why its being argued on a Wii Forum when the Wii's top games anything except realistic.. And most have a cartoonish quality bordering these type of art styles.. Whats unusual too is from what little I have seen of anime, is their art design is vastly diverse.. There are plenty of very realistic looking artworks out there to the more exgerrated drawings.. Some of the best series of all time such as Final Fantasy has had a artstyle similar, yet its one of the top rated series out there.. IMO you would have to be childish and stupid (oh noes the graffics) to not play the game all because the art style is different.
By this logic alone you are infact cutting your self from Mario Galaxy, SSBB, and Metroid.. All top contenders that every one is waiting for the Wii which have art styles connected to "anime".
