Lastly (in games), but not-in-any case least, is your infamous Mario, who has single handedly been pumping racism and sex into childrens minds since you have started your little business. Lets start with the basics of the game. Your ultimate goal in every game is to get Peach, a blonde-haired, blue eyed (arian) beauty, whos name coincidentally happens to be a slang term for a private part of female anatomy, subconciously telling every little boy who plays this game that his ultimate goal, much like Mario's, is to get Peach. Mario, for second, is a very steriotypical Italian plumber. He is quite often pointed out in his games for his mustache, as Italians are stereotypically hairy beings, you could see how this could be offensive. Yoshi is a mockery of dinosaurs everywhere. No dinosaur would allow itself to be ridiculed by being ridden by a man, being punched in the back of the head to the point where its tongue would fly out of its mouth, without retaliation. Wario is clearly portraited as your sterotypical American, being lazy and cheap and crude, and i would like to inform you that as a caucasion U.S. male, I find this quite offensive, and would greatly appreciate it if you would change the characters characteristics in these games.

garrett_duffman

Well, to be honest, im going to make sure that when i get a kid and he can pick up a controller, you can believe he'll be playing mario! Kids gotto learn to get the Peach!

Firstly, its Aryan, not Arian. Get it right. Secondly, Ganondorf is more Arabic than Black. Thirdly, you just want Samus to be sexualised, keep it in your pants. Fourthly, blah blah blah we've heard that before.

Dude you're making a big deal out of nothing.

While humorous you have way too much time on your hands. I truly hope you're joking but this is kind of a touchy subject eitherway. Regardless it is very easy to point the racist finger at absolutely everything and I absolutely can't stand it when jerk offs use that card for no good reason than to just use it.

Find something else to complain about.

Dear Nintendo,

I have been a fan of your products for a few years, my first system of yours being a gamecube, and i have followed you loyaly ever since. Lately, however, I cant help but notice some racism going on within your business, whether it be within your games or during a conference. I hope that you will consider my opinion next time you are doing something that could be construed as some sort of racism. Lets start with racism inside games.

Several games that i have noticed with racial/sexist messages/innuendos, are The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and Yes, even Super Mario Brothers. Let me elaborate:

In The Legend of Zelda, you play as a blond-haired, blue eyed, or arian, hero, who has to overcome impossible obstacles, despite his young age, and ultimately defeat the black-skinned, red-haired pig man. I don't believe that much explanation is needed here to say why this would be construed as offensive. Red hair is the clear mark of an irishmen, with the features and complexion of a black man, one of the ONLY black men in any of your series, and he plays the ultimate evil. The message that i recieve from this is, is that Black people are evil, ad irish people are evil, but combined they create an incredible evil. i would appreciate it if changes were made to this character to avoid offense anymore.

Second up, is the Metroid series. Now some of you may think, "Why would anything in Metroid be considered offensive? Samus is a girl!" but this is what i have to say to that: Who knew? the only female hero you have only has power because of a very MASCULINE suit of futuristic armor. The game was clearly suited towards men, and alot of men had to be specifically informed that the hero of metroid was a girl. I would reccomend not hiding Samus ( which is a pretty manish name) behind her armor all of the time, to not offend the women.

During your GDC event, you showed a picture of an asian man, dressed up in a ten-gallon hat and other cowboy apparel, looking ridiculous. I would like for you to personally apologize for this image, as it is making a mockery of a race of true pioneers that worked their keesters off to provide the U.S. with a better tomorrow. Without them and thier trailbblazing ways, we might not have had such a liveable america, and i for one, am gratedul that the cowboys existed, and i am quite appaled at the lack of respect you showed towards them.

I truly hope you consider my points, altough i have no power to take any actions, i would hope you just care enough for the consumer to peruse his words. thank you.

One thing garret my friend you forgot about is Pokemon. There are little to no other races in that game. Not to mention they still haven't allowed us to have a custom character withe skin color, hair, etc.

I think that we should really think about and than look up the true definition of the word "racial" or "rasist". I understand where you are coming from, but its not a case of or a racial issue. I'm not blond nor am I caucasion and yet, I don't see this as a racial issue. Really, I think you should look the word up.

The thing is that those who gets affected by this thing and sees things as racial or offenssive material are really just weakminded.

No matter were you stand in racial questions, everyone who gets affected ´by anything at all, is weak and pathetic and needs to just shut up and learn to respect others.

I ll get right on it and call the NAACP about discrimination to dinosaurs. You get a hold of Yoshi and a good lawyer and you can suit, that is of course...but that wouldn't happen...the NAACP patches us through to the I don't fricken care division, because video games aren't real. The stuff you mentioned is very vague and no one in their right mind would follow suit. You say dinosaurs, and then you say Nintendo of Japan (Asains) are mocking Asains? Asain on Asain violence isn't even considered a hate crime.

The next issue is, you have wasted a lot of your time. If you really want to help prevent real racism why don't you join a cause or educate people. Volunteer for the NAACP, or go to large cities and spread pamplets on gentrification.

The issues you talk about aren't even racisis by cartoon standards. If you want to see racisim in cartoons watch the Bugs Bunny cartoons from WW2 time. He even uses racial slurs. Look at the court cases over the Cleveland Indians, and Washington Redskins mascots. If your main complaint is an Italin with a mustache who is slightly overweight (but manages to retain amazing athletic ability) and an enemy with tan skin, and red hair, it is by no doubt that any sanctioning body will see your argument as unconclusive and non-significant.

I think you can close this thread, there really is no premise for this argument.

Positive female role model: Rosalina - She lives at the centre of the universe, taking care of the Luma's and nurturing them until they become Stars or Planets. Rosalina is pretty much GOD. Can't get a more positive role model than that.
I also disagree with your comment on Samus. I think its a positive thing that she wears a suit because it means she can't get sexualised in any way. I also think her suit is quite curvy and does give off a sense of femininity. When you say you want her out of her suit, it kind of defeats the whole point of her character. Believe it or not but it was a massive shock for people when they found out she was a girl. It was quite a brave thing for Nintendo to do.
Also, consider the stories in Smash Bros Brawl. All the female characters fight alongside the males and have their roles to play in the story that's more than just 'baking a cake'

All the female characters fight alongside the males and have their roles to play in the story that's more than just 'baking a cake'

can you please give us an example of your "perfect" none racial kinda game? Tip: make sure the bad guy is "good" or else that might be interpreted as something racial on how he looks.

[QUOTE="garrett_duffman"][QUOTE="black_ice23"]your just reading to much into things but really metroid was just a sales tactic, cuz young boys at the time and society at the time didnt wanna buy a game with a strong female leade, so not revealing her gender til the end was a way to trick boys to be like "HOLY CRAP, meh. shes still cool" Link? really u are really reading into things and i hardly think Gannon could be considered black, and this coming from a black man Mario dude of all things you could have picked you chose that? i figured you would go after the Shrooms drug connection, but even those are not intentional, Now Square Enix on the other hand,....

the fact with samus, is that she sells games by hiding behind a masculine suit. look at super princess peach if you want nintendos view on female heroes, or better, cooking mama. honestly im suprised you people are understanding this by now...

Really? samus' suit is masculine? Isnt that kinda sexist ... just because its big and has guns... you're assuming its "masculine" why, don't you think girls can handle those kinda suit... now thats sexist LOL

uh... you dont ASSUME something is masculine. the fact that you actually had to LEARN that the person under the suit was a girl makes it masculine.
