Sounds Like it's lived up to its hype
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Damn! you are too fast man! just got me there hehe. i was about to post this one! congrats hehe!
Yeah a 9.0 game! on the Wii and its been a year since we got one.
I was just going to throw this up here, but you beat me to it!!
Im excited for this :P Sounds like it was well made.
haha yea i thought you guys were gonna get to it first as well, i was surprisedsince no one had put it up yet.
I'll wait till an actual reviewer puts one up
Jaysonguy
BTW Do you still think it's a mini game collection? After watching the 15 minute walk through and the video review on IGN, I'd say the game is 70% beatemup and 30% minigames which use the same control scheme as the main game. The mini games are more like mission objectives really. There are enemies walking around and you have to kill them in a specific way.
P.S. Now my Wii list has expanded to Sin & Punishment, Punch Out!!, Little King's Story, New Play Control Pikmin, New Play Control Pikmin 2, Excitebots, and Madworld
Except for the trailers up to the GDC trailer I've avoided every bit of news and video about MadWorld. After watching the video review all I can say is, "Wow!" I can't wait!!!Arkk_Angel9.0 i think im gonna get this one (my mom will hate it:) ) that kill at the end of the review was amazing...errrgg i wish i could get it now

I think it's more Deca Sports and less Rayman Raving Rabbids now but it's still mini games
That's what's going to save it since the game can be completed in an afternoon

First of all, I think Matt C is one of the best Wii reviewers around. If you're expecting GS to give you "an actual review" you will unfortunately be let down. Maybe one of the guys at Giantbomb will give me an honest review, otherwise, Matt C. really is the best they come.
Secondly I agree with Pikminmaniac. This game is definitely not a "mini-game collection". Sure it has mini-game components, but evidently, as shown in the gameplay marathon, the game is a classic beat'em up in every sense of the word.
Awesome review, I definitely need to play this.

For me it will be the level high scores that keep me playing. I'm a sucker for games that have high score rankings even if there are no online leader boards. I just love the idea of always bettering myself. That's why I still play Mario Galaxy (yellow coin runs), Pikmin 2 (Challenge mode and trying to beat it in the fewest days possible) and Resident Evil 1 (speed runs. my record is 1 hour and 20 minutes)

You are just like me. I play GH:WT just to see if I can better my scores, I play NMH to see if I can't beat each boss faster the next time around, constantly do the Time Trials in MKWii to better those too. It's a good way to earn some replayability in a game. Not everyone likes it, but for the few of us who do, there's nothing better.
I also agree with Jayson. The minigames are going to break up the otherwise A+A+A+chainsaw finisher formula. It looks like it'll be fun though.
On topic, this game looks great. NMH wasn't too long either. Actually, most beat-em ups that I have played aren't. I have this game locked, paid, and ready to play.
Predictable really, I dont think anyone thought it would score poorly thats for sure. The main problems about it were only reinforced when mentioning its length and lasting appeal. It will only last you 5-6 hours maybe a bit more and it sounds like there is very few unlockables. This is actually a huge problem with the game as far as BUYING it goes, but I'm definitely going to play it one way or another and I'm sure I'll have a blast too. Dunno if I'll buy it though as I still need to get twilight princess..
lol just wont let go of the nonsense will you Jayson? just give it up. Well I could care less about reviews but cant wait to get my hands on my copy, it should be a blast. Sepewrath
What I thought was funny was Jayson's reaction to Madworld's length. 5 to 6 hours? For a minigame fest?! BLASPHEMY!
It's as if he forgot he was talking about a minigame compilation for a little bit. Wonder why? Not that anyone actually has to wonder, lol.

And who exactly would you classify as "steak" in terms of reviewers?i dont get how the ignorent press and politicons didnt sworm around this game like they did with manhunt 2 seeing that manhunt looks like a tea party compared to this game. not to mention the esrb letting them get wawy with an M. maybe rockstar just has a bad rep and bad luck.
luckily for platinum games, madworld will be overshadowed by re5's "racism". i dont want to branch off into an argument about that one. all i have to say is that the japanese are pretty insensitive when it comes to marketing games with racial sterotypes. this time, it really bit them in the @$$.
Looks like I'll be starting this on hard from the get go. Should add a few extra hours and make things more rewarding. Tho they make it sounds like it's insanely hard and I don't really like that but normal just sounds like you'll breeze through it.

Or, alternatively, that the review was written to match the hype. :P
After Wii Music and Sonic and the Black Knight (the latter of which I not only disagreed with, but found to be flat-out factually inaccurate), I no longer have any faith in his willingness to do his job as a reviewer whose job it is to adequately advise others on their purchases.
That's not to say that the game definitely isn't good, only that I have no trust at all in what this reviewer has to say.
I don't blame Matt for flopping the crap out of Sonic. That game deserved to flop horribly.
Whoever the guy in charge at Sega is that believes Sonic should be doing anything other than running really fast should be fired. If I want to swing swords, I'll buy Devil May Cry.
That's not to say that the game definitely isn't good, only that I have no trust at all in what this reviewer has to say.GabuExSame here, but the only problem I had with this review is that there's a whole lot of info in there that doesn't need to be there. But other than that, this review seems to be one of his better ones, at least on the surface, from what I can tell without having played the game.
But like you said, because of his reputation, I have doubts about its accuracy. Comments like "stupid waggle" are still very off-putting, though, and this review doesn't hide his agenda as emissary for the hardcore Wii gamer.

Except that stupid waggle replacing button presses is a legitimate concern.DingeriousIt's not the concept that I have an issue with.... It's the wording. It's unprofessional and very vague. I agree with him that a simple button press is usually favorable to a wave of the remote when the action is going to be used constantly, but calling it "stupid waggle" doesn't belong in a professional review. What if I enjoy this so-called "waggle" in games like Twilight Princess and Deadly Creatures? I do, in fact, enjoy what he would call waggle in these cases. There's a place for it in games, but he just writes it off as "stupid waggle" like that's the unarguable truth about it. Like I said, it's just off-putting and could easily be omitted from the review.

If Matt is truly the emissary for the hardcore Wii gamer, then wouldn't it be more beneficial for him to not mention the fact that the game is short?
I know that he wants us to support Madworld. But, I applaud the fact that he would still mention its short-comings. I want that honestly in a reviewer.
All the games that he has championed (Zack & Wiki, Boom Blox) have been great. I wouldn't have tried them if he didn't recommend them.

I agree about Matt. Him and Bozon defiantly do the best Wii reviews on these gaming websites. IGN>>>>>>>>>Gamespot for reviews everyday of the week.I know that he wants us to support Madworld. But, I applaud the fact that he would still mention its short-comings. I want that honestly in a reviewer.canadianloonieI actually agree with you here. I was surprised that he mentioned so many faults in the game, because usually the case is that I need to go to the Gamespot review to get that side of it when a game scores highly. I still get the feeling, though, that he's basically saying, "This game has faults, but if you're a hardcore gamer, you can still enjoy it." He even gives the disclaimer at the beginning that you might not like it at all. Like I said, he's not hiding his agenda here. It just so happens that this time, the "hardcore game that all Wii owners have been waiting for" is actually good, so it's easier for him. ;)
Some of the faults are actually pretty major, such as the repetition of kill methods. That was one concern I've had since the concept of the gameplay was first revealed, and I'm disappointed that it turned out to be legitimate. Matt says it's still fun, but we'll see. I have a feeling that the game's length is a positive thing in light of that.
Honestly, my only concern is how the audio would hold up, as much as I love Proops, many a regular commentary track grows dull and repetitive. I'm relieved to hear this isn't the case.
I would buy this game if it got a 3/10 (which I recall God Hand getting a similar score to from IGN). Clover, now obviously Platinum, has had an amazing record and I've bought every one of their games. They promise big and they win big. Now I just have to wait another week to play it.

You're right about the repetition. Even the mini-games looked repetitive to me. The mini-games basically force you do one specific special kill over and over again for 3 whole minutes.
In the end, I won't listen to Matt on this one. I'm not going to get Madworld.
[QUOTE="GabuEx"]That's not to say that the game definitely isn't good, only that I have no trust at all in what this reviewer has to say.JordanElek

I obviously can't find anything in the reviewat this momentthat is inaccurate on account of the fact that I have not played the game yet, but with Matt C. it's more along the lines of "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice...". His sloppy reviewing in the past has killed any chance he might have had of me being able to take his word at face value as being likely true.
And I totally agree about his unprofessional manner when it comes to reviewing -he always seems to be fantastically self-indulgent when it comes to his reviews, really, and always seems to write the review as if the only people reading it are those who agree with everything he likes and dislikes about games. Whenever I go to review a game, I always tend to take into consideration other tastes people might have. When reviewing games that I like, I tend to present criteria where, if a person meets them, they probably will not like the game, even though I do. Idon't mind waggle at all, but if a game does have waggle, I'd probably say something like, "This game does have a lot of waggle, so if you don't like that, this will probably be an impediment to enjoyment". And I don't even get paid to write reviews. :P
Even in his attempt at the start of the reviewto give a nod to the people who don't agree with him, he comes off sounding pretentious, given that he says he "gets it" and basically says that anyone who doesn't like the game doesn't "get it".

And - no offense - it's attitudes like that that will make the world continue not to take video games seriously. If we can hold the feet to the fire of book, music, or movie reviewers, I see no reason why we ought not to do the samefor game reviewers.
