Actually, he's been doing it since the beginning.

Exactly one minute in, he uses his right hand to kill the monster.

*sigh*

He's not ambidexterous,it's just it needs special programming.

Look at all the official art.

He's left-handed.

No one cares, he's right handed says Nintendo, and so right handed he is.

Prepare to eat your hat when they release a game after SS :)

And yeah,he's right-handed? only for wielding the sword in SS.

You mean those fans that complain about ridiculous things such as Link's arm and don't care about gameplay & innovation? http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/TroperTales/UnpleasableFanbase

There's nothing to wait on, it literally doesn't matter either way, that's what i'm trying to tell you. Who the hell cares? He's PRETEND. Make believe. Who cares if he's right or left handed, there are infinitely more important things to care about :P

You cant really say Link is anything, since its not the same character, the hand he uses can technically change every time the character resets. Like Bruno said a few pages back, their not obligated to abide by a template 100% when its a different character, lots have changed over the years, the size and orientation of his ears, hair color, eyes, height and the hand he holds his sword. If your going to go on about one thing, you should be complaining about them all, problem is, you'll never get a chance to stop complaining.

That's one thing you can't change.

ALL incarnations of Link have been left-handed.

Clearly as it has been show, all have not been left handed and again, its the not the same character from game to game, so they wouldn't be changing anything. Lastly you can change you strong hand, its like a right handed person, boxing south paw and there was a pitcher in the MLB who tore up their right shoulder and started pitching left handed, so that part is also untrue.

Link is ambidextrous. Play ALTTP. Depending on which way you're facing, he uses a different arm to swing the sword. I believe if you're facing right, he uses his right hand.

He's left-handed.

Holding the sword in his left hand just made him look slimmer for the promo pictures. Myspace pics need to look good for Link, too. The fact he uses his right hand at one point in most of the games shows he is ambidextrous. If you can find his birth certificate or show me Link's fingerprints (the indentation of his left hand will be more clear than his right) to prove he's ONLY left handed somehow, then I'll believe you. Fact of the matter is, a boy who (seems) inexperienced that can just pick up items and learn to use them in seconds shows me he knows how to use both damn hands.

It's a freaking hand. If you're such a big Zelda fan you should know that each game has a different incarnation of Link. Maybe one or two were born right-handed. :|

And if you were a big fan you would know that ocorina of time and mm are the same link.

Like your "You cant ask someone to switch hands if theyre used to using their left hand!!!" excuse for a fictional imaginary pixel character is any more valid?

There wasn't lack of proper programming. It was done like that as a joke by Miyamoto to swing towards Death Mountain.

Ah, you're right. He's NOT ambidextrous... but he's also not left handed, because he's NOT REAL! And most of the fictional characters known as "Link" are completely different fictional characters Look, man... I wish there was a way for him to be left-handed because it's tradition, but the fact of the matter is that the GAMEPLAY won't work properly if he's not right-handed, and that to me is FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR more critical than some stupid thing over-emotional fanboys cling to. I'm a HUGE Zelda fan, have been all my life, but I'd much rather have the game control brilliantly than sacrifice that to make Link left-handed. I can really appreciate your stance, but the argument that you keep using is that it will be awkward for him to switch hands? Do you realize that that makes you sound crazy? People are getting so fired up here because you're treating the idea of "Link" (which, again, is many, many different Links) as something with human characteristics, and feelings, and dexterity. And even after that, it comes down to this: Great control with right-handed Link (again, sorry lefties), or awkward control (for the real human player, not imaginary Link) and left-handed Link. Take your pic. THAT is why not many fans are getting upset. Because the real, reasonable fans would rather have a Zelda game that plays greatly than demand an idiotic thing like all incarnations of Link MUST be left-handed.

If game characters are not important, then why are you here? :)

It doesn't matter which incarnation of Link, all of them have been officially left-handed.

Tell you what,if the next SSB game features SSLink, ill bet you anything he'll be left-handed.

In any case,he should be,cause it's more correct.

Why isn't there an option for this? They switched to right because it would be more comfortable to swing the sword but it's a huge slap in the face for all the left handed. It's not like we're THAT rare.

Also it's like an insult to Link too since he's also left handed, the least they could is to at least give him and us the option to play comfortably.

well i'm shocked that there are people that prefer the nunchuk on the right hand, but since there are, then yes, the lack of an option that takes 5 seconds to implement and affects a significant part of the userbase is a big deal. i just don't know why they didn't bother with it.

I personally don't prefer the nunchuk with the right hand HOWEVER, it's a bit different with all the control we're supposed to have over the sword.

Yeah. Link has been left handed forever and when they finally give us a lot of control of the sword, they switch to right handed, screwing all the other lefties around the world over. If Link had been right handed for years and they would decide to switch to left handed, the tears would be so huge, why are some against this? Imagine yourself playing soccer, tennis or whatever with your left hand/foot (assuming you're right), can you do it? Yeah but it sure as hell don't feel very comfortable. Well, that's how it's going to feel for us lefties when swinging around that controller. We can manage but it won't be as fun as doing it with the hand we've used to.

I personally don't prefer the nunchuk with the right hand HOWEVER, it's a bit different with all the control we're supposed to have over the sword.

Insult? Slap in the face?

Oh wow :S , the humanity.....

THANK YOU!!!!

There is a God!

And that's not the first person that agrees with me!!!

So yes,i'll get used to playing with right-handed Link.

But he's traditionally left-handed,and he will always be,and don't forget about left-handed ppl like this person!

You know what's funny. You keep demanding that Link must be left-handed because in the official artwork for the past games has shown him as left-handed, so using your logic Link in Skyward Sword MUST be right-handed because the official artwork shows him as right handed.

Also in ALttP (and Miyamoto was the person who said this), Link switches which hand his sword and shield are in because of a Hyrulian superstition that requires a persons shield to always face Death Mountain (which is located to the North) to protect themselves from the evil powers originating within the mountain, which would mean that in ALttP Link, and every other sword/shield user in Hyrule, must be ambidexterous to accomplish this.

*sigh*

He's not ambidexterous,it's just it needs special programming.

Look at all the official art.

He's left-handed.

GreekGameManiac

Listen... that's not my point. I care about the game character, I think of Link as a lefty, too. And, yes, I agree! If he's in the next SSB, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he was left handed! He is traditionally a lefty, yes. We're on the same page there, but I'm not saying he's not "supposed" to be left handed, because that's not the point. The point is that if he's left handed the game won't control as well. That's it. Bottom line, right there. He's right handed because it lends itself to the controls, just like he "switched hands" in ALttP because of the technical limitations of the console. They're not trying to make a change in the character, it's just the best way to implement the controls. If he could be a lefty and the game would control the same, then I would be upset, too... but that's not the case. The case is that the majority of people prefer a control stick in their right hand, meaning the Wiimote, which will be directly mapped to Link's sword (1:1), will be in the right hand. Thus, right-handed Link. It's not about the character, it's about making a good game! If they made him left handed and the controls sucked, would you really be more happy?

Link isn't even a character, he has no personality. He's basically just a cardboard cut out.

that's not what i meant. at all. and it makes no sense. link's handedness didn't make a difference gameplay-wise until the wii, what are you talking about?

The controls wouldn't suck,it just would be awkward.

GreekGameManiac

which means it would suck.

controls should be immersive, ESPECIALLY when the whole point of the system is to put you inside the game, making the characters mimic your moves.

let me put it this way: if instead of pressing B to attack, you had to hold L and make the shoryuken movement with the right analog, would it be better? because that's what you're asking. FOR A WORSE CONTROL SCHEME.

by the way, to perform a shoryuken you must tilt forward, backward-down, and then drag the analog until forward-down.

like drawing a Z with the analog.

Clearly it is a good idea to force 90% of the population to swing the Wii remote with their non-dominant hand and to use your right hand to control the analog, when nearly every game has utilized the left analog to move - simply to appease a very small group of purists.

While an option to flip Link would have been nice, I imagine that Nintendo would have to flip the enemies' animations as well. It brings up a whole slew of complications, without providing any meaningful improvements to the game itself.

Yeah, that sounds funny and all,but please try to understand me for once.:/

Anything is possible.

They could make controls work fine.

Just have Link be left-handed,no matter which hand is your dominant.

Pls understand.

I'm not saying it's the most important thing, but bit would've been more correct.

Have you seen that fanart? that makes fun of right-handed Link? XD

You need to stop claiming people don't understand you, they do, its just that what you propose is ridiculous and its hard to understand how anyone could actually propose that for the sake of fanaticism.

well i do understand. the one who doesn't understand is YOU. you want to put a small detail over gameplay quality. you want a flawed design choice for the sake of keeping the character left-handed. you want the bad decision that would make this game bad. and that if nintendo had gone with it from the start, you'd be complaining at how stupid and unpractical and bad the controls are.
