I think voice acting would ruin a perfectly good franchise. Zelda doesn't have them now, and I hope they never will
The tricky thing about that is Nintendo doesn't intend Zelda to have voice acting. None of their first party titles have voice acting. Mario, Metroid, Kirby, Donkey Kong, etc. Chances are they will never get voice acting for the main characters. It's sort of leaving that to your imagination, which I like.riariasesMetroid has had voice acting, twice. The others are games not heavy on story so they don't warrant voice acting, beyond "Its-a-me" According to Aonuma, it doesn't fit, I don't know if I would say it doesn't fit, but I would say I don't deem it necessary. However Nintendo will continue to take a beating from the media and many others who say that the game MUST have voice acting in this day and age.

Because voice acting always ruins games right
I think it will eventually, much to the dismay of the fanatical fanbase that froths over the most insignificant details
Why not?
All games should evolve.
So why not? the cast should be American though, can't imagine a medieval fantasy game having Japanese voices.
Or they could have both.
Either way,i'm open.
It would not fit, I dont want Zelda or Link to speak, I have a voice for both of them in my head. The last thing a franchise needs is bad voice acting.

Not necessarily ALL games, but I just don't see it going hand in hand with this series

I'm open to any ideas, but sorry bro, that's no insignificant "detail"!This is the year 2011, if Zelda Skyward Sword does not have voice overs, it will be reflected negatively on the game.
For games like Mario Galaxy, voice overs are not necessary as there is very little text to read. In Zelda Twilight Princes however, the amount of text you read is equivalent to that of a small novel.
Not including voice over on Console Zelda Games now would just plain be barbaric as it purposly ignores like 20 years of game innovation. It would be like making a bike with no hand brakes, it just doesn't feel right if it is not there now.
Unfortunately, Nintendo is too cheap to get good voice actors (look at Metroid series). "Ever" is a long time, so who knows... but for the foreseeable future, no. Not to mention that as long as Nintendo says what its fans want, they will want what Nintendo wants them to want. :P GamerForca
The voice work in Metroid Prime 3 and Other M were just fine. Plenty good enought for games.

Agree to disagree. Compare it to Mass Effect's voice-overs. Though Other M's dialogue certainly didn't help.[QUOTE="WreckEm711"][QUOTE="AvatarMan96"]

I would rather have the "good but not great" actors voice the characters of Zelda instead of having to read endless walls of text.
I certainly hope not. Reason? Just 3 words: "Excuuuuuse me, Princess!"
Edit: I just realized I'm dating myself with this post, so if you're too young to remember, there used to be a Zelda cartoon with simply atrocious voice-acting. Look it up on YouTube. Honestly, I'm sure Ninitendo would try to do better than that, but if they made the decision to add it, they should at least make reading optional.
I really don't see why people assume Link will start speaking if they add voice acting. They can add voice acting and still keep the main character silent. In fact that's exactly what they did in Metroid Prime 3.
And I don't see them adding voice acting anytime soon, but who knows. I don't care either way, I don't mind reading, and I don't mind voice acting being added either.
[QUOTE="lazyathew"]half life, the better example.I don't get it because I haven't played half life. Did that have a silent protagonist in one game, who started speaking when they later added voice acting? I thought that series alway had voice acting though actually.I really don't see why people assume Link will start speaking if they add voice acting. But even so, that doesn't mean they have to do that. And Metroid is a Nintendo series, just like Zelda, so I think that's a good example.

no, it's a game where the whole cast but the main character talks, and the game acknowledges it ("not very good with words, eh?")[QUOTE="riariases"]The tricky thing about that is Nintendo doesn't intend Zelda to have voice acting. Nintendo has actually found great ways to show emotion and depth without voice acting. They have all kinds of little tricks they do with the text to make it have character. They have it down and it works. I personally don't think they should chance it with voice acting. However, I think someday they will bow to the pressure and give all characters but Link a voice.Arc2012
The longer they wait the more strange it's gonna seem when they finally add it though. They should just do it with the next Zelda game after SS. There's no excuse. They couldn't do it back in the day because of the tech but that's obviously not an issue now. and they did it with metroid so why not
The tricky thing about that is Nintendo doesn't intend Zelda to have voice acting. None of their first party titles have voice acting.riariases
That's completely false. Mario had voice acting in both 64 and Sunshine, which wasn't good at all in the latter. Starfox had voice acting since N64, F-Zero had voices, new Punch Out, Battalion Wars, Fire Emblem and ... pretty much everything that needed it. DK and Kirby obviously don't need it, that was pretty much one reason why Sonic went downhill, (even though also Epic Yarn had VA where it fit) and Zelda is really the only exception. And it certainly won't kill anybody to read a couple of lines once in a hour...
At this point I really can't imagine the series with voice acting and to me, it's fine as it is. VA could go wrong and any game that ends up like Assassines Creed is inferior by default, when it ONLY has voice acting and I can't read at my own faster pace and have endure uninteresting dialogue that I can't skip.
Voice acting doesn't fit the Zelda theme, and I prefer to come up with my voices and tones in my head to cast the characters rather than have them be spoon fed to me, particularly for the Zelda series. It doesn't need itwiifan001Maybe Zelda should be a text based game, that way we wouldn't have to be "spoon fed" colourful graphics and catchy music either

I really would not count Fire Emblem. Those games have a few small cinamatics with voice acting, with probably more text to read then any Zelda game. They highlight certain segments with voice acting, but you still have to read a lot.I don't think I would mind so much if characters OTHER THAN Link have voice acting. However, I would hate it if Link had a "voice." I find Link not having a voice makes it easier for me to feel "part" of Hyrule. His voice is how I imagine it to be.
Sort of like how to me, "the book is always better than the movie" because while reading the book, things are how I imagine them. When the movie comes out, the actors don't match to what I imagine, and it takes something away from it.

If you read my whole post... the MAIN characters won't get voice acting. Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine didn't have Mario speaking at all (aside from some yippees and yahoos), Starfox 64 had all your comrades screaming stuff at you, but Fox didn't say anything, F-Zero 64 only had the race announcer saying things, and Punch Out, Battalion Wars, Fire Emblem and Sonic are all not first party titles.[QUOTE="MangaPicture"]

No. Nor do I want voice acting. 25 years of Zelda without voice acting, why start now? If it ain't broke, don't fix it and other cliches. That's why I love Eiji Aonuma for declaring no Legend of Zelda games will have voice acting. Ugh, I can only imagine how bad it would be.
If they do implement voice acting then at least add an option to turn off the voices similar to Final Fantasy IV on the DS.
