I am not going to believe anything the media says just because they have been wrong about so much stuff so far. This is how I see the different destinations:
1. NYC: This is still where I think Lebron will end up at the end of the day. The Knicks play in the mecca of basketball and Lebron would be the one to revitalize the Knicks if he goes there. He can start a new legacy in THE place to play basketball. New York has had great teams over the years but never a star on Lebron's level. Lebron will be the face of New York. I think all of this is just too enticing for him, and the fact that the Knicks got Amare and still have more cap room left (depending on what happens with David Lee) if LBJ ends up here definitely helps.
2. Miami: If Lebron doesn't mind being the 2nd fiddle in Wade County this is where he will go. He is close friends with both Bosh and Wade and to be able to team up with both of them is a great opportunity. Personally, I just doubt that he is willing to be the 2nd option.
3. Chicago: This honestly is the most appealing option because Lebron will be the man in Chicago (unlike Miami) with an amazing supporting cast (Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Luol Deng, Boozer, etc.)... however, Lebron wants to create his own legacy and not live in the shadow of MJ's, so he won't go here.
4. Cleveland: I honestly don't see Lebron returning and it would be shocking if he did. Lebron has stated that he wants to win a Championship and over the course of the last 3 years the Cavs have gone from losing in the NBA Finals to losing in the Eastern Conference Finals to losing in the 2nd round. The Cavs obviously are not taking steps in the right direction and have actually been taking steps backward as I just pointed out. His loyalty to Cleveland is strong but not strong enough.
5. New Jersey: They really have no shot right now. They won 12 games last year and have not gotten any better. There are no great free agents left for them to pair with LBJ if LBJ decides to go there. It looks like the Nets are going to be sitting with $30 mill in cap space because no one wants to play there... and they will ultimately end up with players like Tyrus Thomas, Korver, etc. who are the best of what's left in free agency. As for the move to Brooklyn, yeah it helps, but the Nets will always be 2nd to the Knicks in NYC in terms of appeal.
