Was never a fan of her music and I'm pretty much indifferent to her passing, but it's still pretty disheartening to see a 27 year old (celebrity or not) with their lives ahead of them just waste it away like that. Drugs are bad (except marijuana), stay in school kids.Shottayouth13-

I'd say a waste of life, but not disheartening. She lived the way she wanted to live. Her death isn't a tragedy. It's an obviousconsequence of that lifestyle.

Addiction is a powerful disease that can destroy the strongest of people. Sure, it is stupid starting the drugs she did, but I can't imagine she had any idea just how powerful and extensive addiction can be.

So, if you don't overcome it, you die. Of course she didn't have any idea, but she was doomed. She couldn't defeat it, so it defeated her. Sometimes addicts O.D on purpose, because it's the only escape.

Being a "nerd" wont kill you, being a "junkie" will. This particular junkie had all the means in the world to get help, she even got famous over a song refusing to get help. I only used the term junkie because it was quicker than "severly troubled drug addict".

-Fromage-

Artist or woman are just as short as junkie, if you're having trouble spelling out "severely troubled drug addict".

Except there is a difference between a woman...and a woman who is an addict. She was a junkie. It does describe her. That was her choice.

Welcome to club 27 I suppose

The only thing I can say is this. Friday she was a crack addict that only the fans loved. Saturday she was a legend.

Little fake if you ask me. But I'm not gonna lie. I'm going to check out some of her music. She did have a good voice

You're taking someone to task for calling her a junkie. If she was...I'm not seeing the problem. I also don't see why someone gets a pass just because they died. They were what they were.

Why she choose to ruin all that, and ruin her future. She became a ridicule for a lot of people, her life got ruined by drugs, and now girl is dead.

Apparently going by your last post.....you respect everyone unless they give you a reason not to. Your words. Now if that needs clarifying feel free to do so. But as I only can form your ideas based on what you post....there doesn't seem to more behind the respect than that they haven't given you a reason not to respect them. Which means respect wouldn't be anything special in that case. Just the opposite of a loss of respect which seems to have more thought behind it TBH. At least it's based on the individual and not a blanket association.

There doesn't seem to be more behind the respect given, because I quite clearly haven't elucidated on the reasoning behind it. Just because I haven't given concrete examples of what specifically substantiates the respect I give, doesn't mean there aren't any, that's you simply drawing an assumption.

Ah no. That is me going by what you posted. The onus is on you to present the reasons if they exist in contradiction to your first post.

Now if you do need reasons to respect individuals....(and the second statement is contradicting your first postt)....then you do not respect everyone until they give you a reason not to do so. I'm not assuming anything. I'm reading your posts....so which is it? Do you respect everyone until a reason presents that you don't....or do you have reasons to respect individuals?

No, I don't see a contradiction in my words. Both "options" apply. I have reasons to respect individuals, and I need reasons in order for said respect to diminish.

1. I skipped to the last page of this thread
ROFL...worth the read...great exchange

2. On the topic of respect
99.9% of people give others some measure respect without them 'earning it'
-this is seen by the way people treat others in public, how they function in society, etc
-those that do not do this are usually labeled as deviant in some form or another (anti-social disorders for example)

If you do not believe this to be true, then think about how you treat others in public, when you are introduced to someone, how you behave in school/at work, etc
...about all the things you do that you would probably prefer not to do...but do out of...you guessed it...respect

It's never fun to hear that someone has died, but I find it very hard to feel any sorrow over her death. She chose to live a life filled with drugs and alcohol. She chose not to go to rehab. These consequences were pretty much inevitable. This is just another case of "you made your bed now you must lie in it".

i find the contempt and disdain displayed here incredibly unnecessary. regardless of her choices, she was still a human being; regarding her as a 'junkie' and dismissing her death is extremely disrespectful and quite honestly, pathetic. this isn't the time to judge, but to celebrate her accomplishments. the crude jokes are pathetically bad, by the way.

It's weird I totally called this with my friends late last year. I said she'd die in 2011 ... I didn't think it'd actually happen. Pretty sad, considering she had a really good voice ... to bad she had a substance abuse problem.
