have you heard arise yet?, its my fav sepultura though its more like death/nightmare metal compared to their later materialiwilson1296
Yeah. I'm going through the discography chronologically and finished it last night. It wasn't my favourite out of the first three (Beneath Their Remains, Arise and Chaos A.D.) but I didn't dislike any of the songs. And I've learned from Pantera that first impressions don't mean anything (I loved Cowboys at first, then disliked it; at first I hated Southern Trendkill, then it was my favourite). So I won't pass any judgment until I'm done (the only reason I'm not listening to their first two albums is I hear they poorly pressed and played with out-of-tune instruments).

I am an ardent lover of metal. From Dream Theater to Tool to Sevendust to Opeth. I like a lot of the quality metal, Opeth being my absolute favorite of all metal bands.

I started out with metallica and eventually moved to my previous favorite band of all time, Megadeth. It is now my second, as it was kicked out of first by Dream Theater. In between my years of music, I have been very picky with what I listen to, and I still only have about 15-20 that I regularly listen to. Between those, I still have almost 2000 songs though. Some of my favorites:

- All That Remains

- Avenged Sevenfold

- Between The Buried and Me

- Black Sabbath

- Bullet For My Valentine

- Dethklok

- Dio

- Dream Theater

- Judas Priest

- Megadeth

- Rainbow

- Slayer

- System of a Down

Aw man :P Morbid Visions is enjoyable enough if you give it a go. It dosen't necessarily sound terrible, just very......early Seplultura.

But as for the topic, metal is a huge part of my character. I listen to a lot of death metal, lot's of black metal, a generous dose of thrash and heavy metal, and a soft spot for power and symphonic metal......with some of my favourite bands being Nevermore, Kreator, Nile, Judas Priest, Dismember, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Machine Head, Suffocation.....and plenty of others that I could add, but wont.

I listen to a decent amount of sludge and death metal. Right now my favorite metal is Devin Townsend. Overall though I don't know maybe Mastodon or Neurosis. As far as heavy music goes Dillinger Escape Plan and Converge are my favorite bands

Lately I've been listening to a lot of Septic Flesh, Obscura, Enslaved, Alcest, Cynic, and Nevermore( been blasting This Godless Endeavor on repeat in my car)

DivergeUnify
DEVIN RULES! Everything from his early days with Vai to his solo work or his Strapping Young Lad career, good man! Septic Flesh is great for that orchestral fulfillment and it sucks Loomis is gone from Nevermore :( no more Nevermore

Yea metalcore is stale, worked in the early 2000s when we were all younger (killswitch, all that remains) but I still love me some August Burns Red or Unearth. And Nu-metal is a joke, really Korn and Bizkit are the only dbags still doing it

I'd say I'm a fairly large metal aficionado.

My favorite bands include: Down, The Absence, Hail of Bullets, Unearth, Misery Index, Revolting, Skeletonwitch, Rob Zombie, Death, Crowbar, Amon Amarth, Corrosion of Conformity, Nightrage, Nominon, Evocation, and Napalm Death.

CycleOfViolence

We need to hang out lol Nobody I know loves Amon Amarth (just saw them live here in MI) and the Absence (I found the will to live, leaving you behind! Against judgement, severing the strings of time!) \m/ As you can see my little pic lol Twilight of the Thunder God!!!! Surtur Rising is awesome too

[QUOTE="nitroRCman"]

Dave Mustaine is so talented, seen them at Mayhem fest a month ago, old Metallica all the way, Death Magnetic had a couple good songs but at least it's not St. Anger!

Iceozo

Respect a band for trying new things is what I say. I've liked a few song off albums like Load and ReLoad even when they were panned cause Metallica did something different. I liked a few songs off St.Anger too and that album was one of Lars Ulrich's more fiercer albums which I commend him for..... for once I am commending Lars, never again.

As for me my favourite band would have to be Opeth. Akerfeldt has some of the best clean and harsh vocals I've ever heard, they can play some truly emotional music.

Opeth is beautiful, love the new single they have out too. I loved "Shoot me Again" and "St Anger" the most off of "St Anger" but anything they touch Im a fan of. No leaf clover is one of my top favorites

I've been delving into black/thrash and crust punk lately, but my favorite bands are Ulcerate, Anata, Mitochondrion, Deathspell Omega, Gorguts, Mithras, Immolation, and Suffocation. Probably missing a few, but I tend to like technical/brutal death metal (with atmosphere and well-written songs which a lot of the more contemporary stuff lacks).

Besides metal I dig indie rock, folk, crust punk, some hardcore punk, and some jazz and cIassical.

my favorites are blotted science, cynic, and stinking lizaveta, acid bath. then theres gordian knot which amazing, but probably only a metal band if you listen to their entire albums rather than pick a few random tracks. i like single albums from others like maudlin of the well's part the second and gorguts' obscura.

With all of the references to thrash metal bands like Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer, I'm surprised no one has mentioned:

Exodus, Testament, Overkill, Vio-Lence (their first line-up featured Rob Flynn and Phil Demmel, who are currently with Machine Head), Hallow's Eve (who somehow reformed as a death metal band), SOD, MOD, Carnivore, Voivod (technically, they're prog thrash), Motorhead (who practically invented thrash), Destruction (although they seem to get referred to as black metal, they're really thrash), Dark Angel and Death Angel.

Blind Guardian's my favorite power metal.

One night, a good friend brought a ton of his power metal to work, and we sat down and looked at liner notes while blasting Gamma Ray at 2 AM.

We realized that a bunch of these bands are so intertwined that it's crazy. Gamma Ray, Helloween, Blind Gaurdian, Iron Savior, and Primal Fear all have Kai Hansen in common, for example: he has played for all of them at some point (though Gamma Ray is his primary band).

Also, Blind Guardian and Iced Earth are related by a common project: Demons and Wizards ("Terror Train" is awesome!).

Just thought I'd share that. :D

[QUOTE="rockguy92"][QUOTE="th3warr1or"]IMHO, Sonata Arctica is tied with Gamma Ray as the best power metal band. Nightwish used to be the best symphonic metal band. OrkHammer007

Oh yeah, I'm familiar with Kai and Demons. :)
