Loving the new album at the moment. I don't mind the clean vocals, besides the first time when I heard Oracles my thoughts went directly to Hour Of Penance. There's no connection now. The obvious drawback is the guitar work but I can deal with it. Septicflesh has these same problems with their compositions, almost all the guitar tracks are just that palm muted chugga-chugga (lol), I still like the band though.
And the guitars get drowned in the orchestral mix (solos pop out at least)Much better symphonic metal:

very nice. I don't usually like black metal but that was good.Absolutely amazing band, and "Hall" is a phenomenal album. It's an absolute shame that Criss Oliva died so young, because he was an exceptional guitarist. I still need to hunt up a copy of "Edge Of Thorns," the last album with him on it.I just resurrected my Savatage discs.
No love for this band?
Sirens/Dungeons, Hall of the Mountain King, Gutter Ballet anyone?

I'll listen to damn near anything. Pantera, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Black Sabbath are some of my favorites, but if I put my iTunes on shuffle everything from those bands to Aerosmith, Jay-Z, AC/DC, Buckcherry, Pearl Jam, Eminem, Foo Fighters, and Rise Against will come up, with everything in between.
it all sounds the same
joking, but seriously, a lot of it sounds so similar. can say the same for lots of genres though.
Love tons of good old metal, as well as some other stuff.
Favorite metal bands: Megadeth, Overkill, Exodus, Metallica, Anthrax, Black Sabbath, Black Sabbath (Dio Years)/Heaven and Hell, Judas Priest, Testament, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Fear Factory, Death Angel, Skid Row, Dethklok, Demise Awaits, etc.
Other metal bands: Machine Head, Viking Skull, Moonspell, Venom, Slayer, etc.
Other Artists: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, NoFX, Misfits, Goldfinger, Weezer, System of a Down, Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains, Faith no More, etc.

I hope somewhere in the 9 pages someone has mentioned Judas Priest

What kind of metalhead would I be if I didn't mention Priest ;)
Judas priest really aren't that great. At all.I was a metal kind of guy, but now I listen more to rock. I still listen to metal though. My favorite metal bands include: Metallica, System of a Down, Linkin Park, Korn, Slipknot, Nightwish, Limp Bizkit, Rage Against the Machine, DragonForce, Pantera, Rammstein, Korpiklaani, Eluveitie and Evanescence.
Only like half those bands are metal.I was a metal kind of guy, but now I listen more to rock. I still listen to metal though. I'm sorry, but I don't agree with any of those, except for maybe eluveitie.
Limp Bizkit, Dragonforce, Slipknot, Linkin park? Really?

Everybody listens to what they want. Although it's true I don't listen to those 4 bands regularly, except for Linkin Park. Not if you have a trained ear! If you play an instrument it's easier to decipher the different BPM, metres, picking styles, notes, etc. Metal is bliss for many musicians, hence why (w/o hasty generalizing) most metal heads get down with jazz and classical forms of music. My dad always says it sounds the same, but he's used to 4/4 classic rock with standard song structures and can't decipher the workings of each instrument. Especially at 200+ BPM lol I can understand where you're coming from with a lot of the metalcore and deathcore crap that comes out, but that's why we don't speak those words :Pit all sounds the same

Judas priest really aren't that great. At all. Highly agree, may as well call Kiss metal while we're at it because their song structures and chord voicing are very similar (except Kiss with the major melodies, and Priest in the minor)Yeah, revocation is pretty goodHaven't read any of the thread so I don't know if they have been mentioned yet, but I believe everyone that is into metal should check out the band Revocation. Now.

Might be metal, but it's still boring...BORING??? What the ****? I'll only go so far as to call it "relaxing" (if I'm in a thrash mood).(I'm starting to read boring as code for "I like this, but it's not 'cool' to like this. What to do..." :P )

Nope I just genuinely don't like anything Judas Priest have ever done.
Sabaton is my favorite band with Symphony X being a close second. Power and Progressive Metal are my favorites.
I like Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters and Enter Sandman as far as metal is concerned.Stavrogin_Not too into music? That's a very brief taste of Metallica's catalog, especially since it's their later material
Led Zeppelin is my all time fav. Even though they aren't really metal, I can see why many people consider them to be such. The vast majority of their music is very guitar driven. (Or guitar- esque instruments, like the Mandolin in Battle of Evermore.) Regardless, whatever you think they fall under, they are amazing.
Have you ever listened to "Jugulator" or "Detonator?" Jugulator in particular is very good, and I felt "Ripper" Owens did a great job stepping for Halford.I have to say, that Judas Priest 'PainKiller' album is *bleepin* incredible.
I wish they made more albums like that. Practically every song on the album just cranks.
I love 'Hammer and the Anvil' and 'All Guns Blazing'

Well, as much as I love suffocation, I'd have to go with Origin, or Obscura, at least in the tech death department. No better Death Metal band then SUFFOCATION!!!

Obscura (sucks their bassist left, he's nuts with that fretless) is in a close 2nd for tech death, Allegaeon is by far my favorite tech death band. Listen to their newest if you havent heard it yet. Decapitation is up there as well (albeit not tech). Do you guys like Keith Merrow???? He has a death metal outlet in the works! He's my favorite Djent artistNo better Death Metal band then SUFFOCATION!!!

I just saw Sabaton live last friday and man what an amazing live show. One of the best live shows i've ever seen despite they only played 40-45 minutes ( you could understand they love what they were doing and they had as much fun as the crowd ). I'm still jumping to primo victoria. Pure epicnessSabaton is my favorite band with Symphony X being a close second. Power and Progressive Metal are my favorites.

I did not like Jugulator, but have not listened to Detonator. I will give Jugulator another try and track down Detonator.
I used to not like Iron Maiden 'No Prayer for the Dying', but later on it really grew on me, so I'm always open to relistening. I suggest others do as well.
