Anyone care to explain why Marijuana is STILL illegal?

This topic is locked from further discussion.

Yet another stupid topic about people's perceptions. Here's the thing. If you have tried the drug and have something bad to say about it, speak up. If you have not and only base your opinions on rumors and such, please **** off. Vice versa as well.

InEMplease

No offence, but since this is a message board, anyone can give opinions. Message boards are filled with opinions actually.

Honestly, I'd like to see drugs decriminalized simply because I think the money spent to fight them is a waste.

That being said, I can't be urged to put any energy or commitment to this cause because there are much bigger issues (IMO) that need attention.

Many of those opinions based on nothing beside what they believe because of what they have read or heard. I say they shold try things out for themselves before they make a judgement, this goes for both sides of this or any argument.

You can have an opinion on something without trying it out. This is what a discussion is for. The Internet is a wonderful tool and can be used for research before trying anything out. Thanks for your opinion, but I have my own and value anyone's opinion regardless of who they are or if they have tried it in the past. Second of all, how to you know they have never tried something unless they tell you?

I somewhat agree, or at least be educated on the matter, many of these people are spouted out "facts" they heard off of a commercial, which aren't facts at all.

Alcohol is a lot more dangerous than marijuana. You always hear about people getting violent when drunk or getting into fatal car accidents when driving drunk. But when was the last time you heard something like that happen because someone smoked marijuana?

Also, cigarettes are known killers too. Hell, their nickname is "cancer sticks". When was the last time someone died from smoking too much weed?

Ok, so what if it's a drug, so is advil, and tylenol, and aspirin, it doesn't matter, the government has no right to deny people freedoms, as long as they don't impose on other people's freedoms.

Yeah, they do when they cause danger to other people.

Here is a list of drugs that make you less aware (depressants), are legal and you don't need prescription necesarily for all of them: Glutethimide and Methaqualone Benzodiazepines Paraldehyde Chloral Hydrate Gamma Hydroxybutyric Acid Flunitrazepam Barbiturates Ethanol (Alcohol) And marijuana is a stimulant like caffeine (i.e. coffee) is.

Coffee has little effect while weed has a large effect on the mind. They need prescription but I have no control over that.

When people get high they might think they are invincible and may attack or kills cops

Saturos3091

 No. You're getting weed confused with PCP. "High" is a general term people use for everything from marijuana to LSD to cocaine and even cigarettes. So when you read "high," don't automatically assume it's marijuana. What we need is no penalties on substances and things that cause "harm" ONLY to ourselves at our own will (it isn't even harm at that point). That includes weed.

I will assume its marijuana when they say "High on weed"

Honestly, this brings up a good point, if all the people focused on controlling the marijuana "problem" focused on meth, something might actually be able to be done about meth.

You must be joking, I doubt that any one "on weed" would feel invincible and want to attack the cops, that's ridiculous.

It's actually not though, it doesn't have the same tar that cigarettes have. It has never been proven to cause lung cancer or emphysema.

That's completely untrue, that's why I made this topic, it seems that the general perception is that marijuana is a dangerous drug that you can die from, but it's not. You can die from advil or tylenol much easier than you can from pot. Do you understand this? That's what me and about three other people here have been trying to say, it's a safe drug that has been falsely criminalized.

And so pointless stereotyping continues.

To make it clear, pot:

Is used on cancer patients.

Has negative effects, but no more harmful than a McDonald's double quarter pounder.

Does impair vision, but less than alcohol.

Is used to relieve anorexia, stress, and depression.

Anyone who disagrees is like, totally a Nazi, man.

I'm not saying marijuana is some evil killer drug.

I'm saying anyone who thinks it has no real side effects or anything possibly harmful about it is probably high right now, or living in fantasy land. You can support it's legalization. It's when you start twisting facts to get it legalized that I have to shake my head.

If you honestly believe any of those, then you're really not helping your case. This isn't the 1890's anymore and trying to sell anything off as having nothing bad about it yet curing everything doesn't work anymore.

A lot of stuff has the potential to be harmful. When compared to alcohol, marijuana is very low on the danger scale both short term and after long term use.

Cheese is dangerous because it could lead to clogged arteries and thus, heart disease. Down with cheese! Really though, almost everything on this planet that we put into our bodies could "potentially" be dangerous. It doesn't mean we should classify all of these things as "hazardous". Do you see my logic? I sure do.

As long as poeple don't blow it's negative effects out of proportion as the media tells them to. It's not a killer drug, or a "gateway" drug.

Didn't say it was.

There are two negative sides to this debate.

Guy A: Weed will kill your family and everyone you love and you'll be doin' PCP by noon!

Guy B: Basically what I said in an earlier post.

The super positive weed supporter is just as ridiculous as the super negative anti-weed guy.

I never said it doesn't have adverse affects, but it's certainly not going to kill you. Like everything in life, moderation is key. Simply because some people can't use things in moderation, it doesn't mean it should be banned. Lots of people eat junk food and become fat, it doesn't mean junk food should be banned for the entire society. On a friendly note, you sound like you might need some right about now. Just sayin....

Because it has side effect that can worse over time. It lowers the function of the brain, kills your immune system which is very bad, and they cause cancer for the lungs faster than cigarettes can. Plus with some peoples allergy problems taking weed can be deadly. My sister took it one and she nearly died because she has some allergy issues. Weed does not do any good to people anyway.

We never see serious pot users – they're all locked in their houses too paranoid to go outside, and sit amongst piles of pizza boxes and biscuit wrappers in their filthy squalor procrastinating their lives away in a bubble of dreams *just kidding*.

Why is it still illegal?Having been caught a couple of times when I was a kid the police really couldn't care less about it unless its a reasonably significant quantity. I'm sure they dislike having to fill out numerous forms for kid they've just arrested for a gram of weed and would rather just throw away as they've done with me and focus on more significant crimes. I can't really say why it's still against the law, but it'll change in time I'm sure...

Well there are numerous medical benefits which have been outlined earlier in this thread.Stress can be manifest itself in some quite serious physiological or psychological ailments or disorders, and as a relaxant it can prove beneficial dependent upon the individual. Some people play sport to unwind, some like a pint of beer, some read a book, some roll up a blunt - they're all utilised to achieve the same outcome, and if rolling one up helps to relax and function better the next day then who are you or I to say any different?

Wrong on all accounts. Lower your brain function? Is that why it has been shown to stave off Alzheimer's?

those of us who may have the ability to legalize such a thing. couldnt care less about its benefits or even its harms. what people like me like. is watching other people squirm, writhe. be it in confusion, frustration, or pain. people like me see something other people like, things other people want, and we prevent them from obtaining it. stoners want it legal, I do not. for the pure reason that i enjoy listening to pot heads complain. watch them squirm red eyed and moronic to form a coherent argument. just so i can laugh in their faces at how stupid they sound, and the petty criminal charges they are subject to. I for one am glad my tax dollars fine and jail non violent offenders associated with drugs, especially pot. sure one day it may be legalized. but people like me. will find other ways to make you writhe.

weed is still illegal because people like me exist. and people like me hate you. just for existing.

Because it has side effect that can worse over time. It lowers the function of the brain, kills your immune system which is very bad, and they cause cancer for the lungs faster than cigarettes can. and i also hate you. the willfully ignorant. the know-it-alls with the answer to everything. the people who think they are correct just because the words came from their mouth. pot contains far less carcinogens than cigarettes. the effects worsen cause stoners just smoke more over time. what you see is someone thats just stoned. your sister is also a frail human being who by all means should swallow some cyanide. for the record there seem to be far more people allergic to milk. why in the hell is milk still legal.
