Armed Services Day---Thanks guys!

To those who are currently serving, and those that have served in defense of our country, thank you.

I haven't been in for about a year and a half, but I know all too well the **** that we have to go through.

So those that have served, stand tall, post your branch and rank and be recognized.

I don't know why anyone would contribute to the murder of others or defence for possible other violence. Daavpuke

You're entitled to your opinion, even though I didn't ask for it in this thread.

It's not murder, though. So if you have some proof that can prove the contrary, post it. If not, keep your thoughts to yourself. =]

It's not murder if it's not against the law. Armies KILL other humans. We don't murder them, though.

A military would be fine, but we have a empire that is used mainly for imperialist policies in enforcing United States interests of the world like in regions of the Middle East.. Defense is a fine thing, but the militaries role in today's society is hardly that.. It has becomea military economy complex something Esienhaur warned about..

No but the pay is good as long as you are smart and got enough to advance.

It's not semantics. It's not the same thing. Killing an armed combatant is not the same as killing an unarmed woman.

And we're not celebrating. This thread was solely meant to thank those that have served.

Doesn't that depend on whose law though? If the country you're in doesn't recognise you as a legitimate "peacekeeping" force but basically an invading army...jimmyjammer69

Not our military.. We havn't had a war of defense since World War 2.. And you would think the Cold War would lead to the shrinking of our military.. When it has infact grown.. Andt eh main purpose of this is to control economic resources namely oil within the regions.. I have np with military I infact have been thinking of enlisting.. But my problem is the fact in the 21st century we have a hegmon of power that the US uses to bully powers for selfish gains.. And its been this way for the past 60 years.. It makes matters worse that the politicaisn havn't made a concious effort of ever trying to curb this what so ever.

Itsa sound criticism of the Iraq war in most recent memory.. A estimated 600k+ have died direclty or indirectly by the war.. A war that was against UN laws, and there was no legitimate reason to invade.. This is by no means the people's fault who serve there, they do as their told.

As a fromer Navy vet I actaully agree the bulk of the USAF is alot sharper than the bulk of any other service branch the worst being the army :P.

If you're joining the Army for infantry and plan on doing special ops, you might as well join the USAF Pararescue. PJs are our premier spec ops unit. And they have the hardest training program. SEALs wash out of PJ training.

You can keep on saying it over and over again.. But the past 20 to 25 years will show otherwise that our military has had little use for defense.. The cold War was staved off from going hot due to the threat of mutually assured destruction not our military vets.. And the secondary is true because we prop up regimes no matter how corrupt or brutal to fight a proxy war within regions like the Middle East.. The united States gets alot of critisim for that because we more or less share a empire like Great Britian all those years ago.

Since I'm answering anyway, might as well elaborate on my opinion: In my eyes there is no gradation in taking a life. You can call it what you want, but in the end, there is no justification for taking a life from someone, anyone. I don't view in countries, beliefs, blabla. I see 1 world and 1 species in which we are all equal and should be sound enough not to do harm upon each other for ANY reason.
