Sad but true. They think they are being open minded and thinking for themselves but they are really just following the crowd.

wat exactly is your proof on this? Do you take a poll in your neighborhood or something? A lot of people don't even know what exactly atheism is really, i mean the whole point behind it. You have nothing that can prove this really unless you give me a link or something im gonna say that the following posts that say atheism is the new fad or something is just bull.

I believe most american adults believe in God, its just the young upcoming crowd Im talking about. I cant prove it, its just my general observation on society these days.

well... i gues thats respectable... i dont know but maybe ur right maybe they do just think that it is a "cool" thing to do. so yea i could see wat u mean. sorry about wat i wrote earlier got caught up in the moment is all

hey i cant explain it maybe something happened in their life that changed them im not sure but have you ever asked them wat did it?

I asked everyone, mostly to umm "rebel against the man" kind of stories, but I didn't get any real answers why all of them turned so quick, it seems like a fad but I don't want to stoop down to a level of accutally beleiving something like that.

i know what your saying, although i do not see much wrong with it,it is kind of coincidental.i think more people are becoming more literal, and they just dont believe in what they are told anymore, they need facts.i think many are doing it because it gos along with a certain social group(i dont mean to offend anyone but ive noticed alot of the goth/emo/reject kids becoming athiest)or it could be that they just need a change.

Global information and educational standards are rising.

People are starting to see the flaw in believing something as big and all encompassing as religion without being presented any evidence.

In other words, humanity is starting to wise up.

I am a teapot atheist because I don't believe in any theistic god, supernatural intelligence, afterlife, or anything beyond the natural universe. This is a belief gathered due to the sheer lack of evidence for those beliefs that I reject.
Yah, but would you really rather beleive in dying and nothing after that then heaven and hell? ( i think i just answered my own question but w/e).antonius05
Rather? No, assuming I could choose what to believe. It does, however, make this life more important.

I concede that some may, but that is not the point of atheism.

[QUOTE="antonius05"]Well I truely respect everyones decision in life, but like all of my friends have converted to atheism, I for one am not going to convert, but I am also not that kind of person who beleives every single thing in the bibile and reads the bible 24/7 and beleive in creationism, but I do not see the point of atheism. Can anyone tell me why is this happening? Its like the whole world is being over run with people without a belief of a afterlife.antonius05

Uhhh, so. I like pie

Mind your own business, let others do as they please, within theconfines of municipal &federal law of course.I'm an out of practice methodist so I just consider myself agnostic.

I understand that, the question here is why did it happen so fast...

maybe because of all the events going on in he world right now or even jsut their personal lives. other than that they could jsut be following a trend. It depends on their age. for me personally the reason im agnostic is from looking at all the sickness, murder, poverty, and many other problems..but you are allowed to beleive what you beleive for what ever reason. I wont judge anyone for what they believe...only if they try to FORCE it on others

Holy crap you like got inside my mind. Most of the kids i do know who are now atheist are emo/goth/rejects or w/e and most of them are kids, I don't see anyone above 30 not beleiving god. Heck I don't even know why I am christian, its just what I beleive. Back when I lived in my country, Russia during the Soviet times they didn't let us beleive in anything other then government power.... but I don't know ive been beleiving it all my life and I don't want to change that.

"Rejects" and "loners" naturally gravitate to unconventional beliefs in rebellion, or because contempt for the conventional has made them skeptics and anti-authoritarian--anti-non-questioning.

Yeah that was me last year. And I was communist for a year (no offense to communists, its a viable system. It's just I looked at other possibilities), listened to only indie-music, and missed out on a lot.

mainly the reason for people that are older believing is either becuase of the tiem period they grew up in or just in case there is some sort of god they try to live by it because well they're older and closer to death? who knows. beliefs can and usually are altered by life expiriences

I'm not devout to any religion....nor do I like the idea of people thinking you must be under the title of one to substantiate belief in something....

I've always believed that life is too weird for there not to be something out there. I just don't think it is in the form of a 'God' or higher being as many would/would not believe. Instead, I believe it is an idea, not a being that brought us to be.

Much more to it though....a lot that is probably beyond the conventional realm of contemplation...

Because we are making discoveries and advancements in science that are proving how life came to be, in effect proving religion wrong with actaul evidence. We dont need gods anymore to explain the unexplainable, because we are finding out new information every day which explains this.

Religion is still in effect today because

1) People are afraid of going to hell

2) Some people arent capable of living on their own terms and need something to tell them how to live their life and give them "reason"

People that accept science and truth and evidence are using logic over blind faith, which only makes sense...

Some would say that believing in a religion such as Christianity just for the security of an afterlife is not believing in Christianity at all.

Because people are getting dumber by the minute.Bubba-louiy
People are getting a bit dumber, but that has nothing to do with atheism.

Most people didn't think about becoming a christian, most people just grow into it. That's why faith is that one magical thing covered in velvet and roses; you can't criticize it because it's supposed to be so beautiful and all that fuzzy stuff.

Well, I suppose they believe that they do not believe in the supernatural or divine much. It's not a question of purpose, it's a question or truth.

Yah, but would you really rather beleive in dying and nothing after that then heaven and hell? ( i think i just answered my own question but w/e).antonius05

It may not be a pleasant thought, but it is almost certainly the truth.

Greedo_What

Yeah, that's how I feel. But how do you explain this in a word to people who won't understand a word you say..? I just say I'm Protestant.

When someone ask's me what I am I just say that i'm me.....simple as that. Most people i've met respect that, religious or not.

I beleive that Jesus died on the cross for that reason... so everyone who beleived could go to heaven, but I also dislike people getting into religions so they can go to heaven. Do your thing.

[QUOTE="antonius05"]Im not trying to make flamewars here, I respect your decisions, its just confusing to me why it happend.... not as much as it did happen but that it happend so suddenly and dramatically.... its like everyone I know turned atheist in the past 3 months.... just happend so quick.antonius05

i know what your saying, although i do not see much wrong with it,it is kind of coincidental.i think more people are becoming more literal, and they just dont believe in what they are told anymore, they need facts.i think many are doing it because it gos along with a certain social group(i dont mean to offend anyone but ive noticed alot of the goth/emo/reject kids becoming athiest)or it could be that they just need a change.

Holy crap you like got inside my mind. Most of the kids i do know who are now atheist are emo/goth/rejects or w/e and most of them are kids, I don't see anyone above 30 not beleiving god. Heck I don't even know why I am christian, its just what I beleive. Back when I lived in my country, Russia during the Soviet times they didn't let us beleive in anything other then government power.... but I don't know ive been beleiving it all my life and I don't want to change that.

lol,i have that ability on people
why do you stay away from change?is it because you are a conservative person,or like alot of people(your probably wont admit this)are you afraid of change?im just generalizing here and i probably shouldnt so i apologize for that.neither am i questioning your beliefs btw im very sturn on my belief that everyone is entitled to believe whatever they want without taking any crap.
