Anonymous, anonymous, what do you mean? How were things different back in 2005? Anonymous as in the folk from "that site?" No, I think he means anonymous in the literal term.
Wait... wha?
There is plenty of 'Funny' to be created here. The problem is that all this 'Funny' you claim is the only 'Funny' around is ripped from places like **** The ToS is nothing new. It's been here before the OT was created. And the OT use to be packed with 'Funny'. The difference now from then is that everyone now doesn't do their own thing and thus takes it from some one else and abuses it until it becomes a problem. Back then the community constantly tried to pump more 'Funny' and character into the community. This anonymous approach to the forum is killing the 'Funny'.

i will still know you by your Fuschia text though! :o
Things were way different. the biggest problem is the people on here now have the potential to make it that good again but they do not.mattykovaxI see. I've been posting here on and off for three years, and that whole time people always talk about the good old days. Perhaps it was just because it was smaller? Most of these religion/political threads are repeats because droves of new users come in and make new ones as the old flamebaiters move on.
I would say creating a GS fad that looks down on lame fads from other site may very well improve the site, but then again, we would lose a lot of interest :(SetsaBut the best fads are from here. The only one I actually find funny and engage in myself is alien/star crystal, and that came from here. back in the old days people came up with funny stuff like that all the time. Even the chicken censoring had lots of potential that was never fully utilized.
Sometimes, the cause of the it being a violation of the ToU is because of some users going over board and extra measures needing to be taken. Fad topics used to be around until it got way out of hand and now fad topics are a no no.I would normally agree with you but after experiencing the bad end of the ToU interpretation, I am more inclined to agree that that is a huge factor in the whole thing. I've been here a long time and a lot of the funny stuff that did exist back in the day are now in violation of the ToU. If anything... its caused people to be more concerned with starting something for fear of getting in trouble.

The lack of any individuality is depressing. More so since I was here when this forum was first established. This anonymous approach to posting feels so lifeless and meh. Back before 'The Fall' a single OT regular packed more character than majority of the current regulars of OT. I don't mean to sound like I am trying to insult anyone here. Everyone here seems like good people. But no one honestly sticks out. All the posting styles and antics around here are all the same. I see all these names, but nothing I can use to identify them with. Everyone posts all the same. Most of the fads here are just ripped from elsewhere. I don't know what triggered all this anonymous approach to this forum, but it's all jibber without the jabber.N3MO
Do you really think that? To me there are a lot of memorable ppl. I don't memorize names but I memorize avatars. I think a lot of people here are different and everyones posts express something different from the others. You've been here waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay longer than I have so maybe the vibes are all starting to feel the same to you.
That would work. I mean like i once started a subject about which form of media in your opinion best potrays war so the impact is felt by those who never experienced it. Great topic, heavy, but without the headbanging of a religion thread. Yet it did not get 30 posts. But whne i make a topic about internet popularity it goes over four pages at thirty a page and people keep bumping it (not me). That kind of bothers me.Yeah. That bothers me too. Alot of great threads die off too fast.
I found this place and never looked back. Though I think I do quite a bit of posting on other boards. As for what I can do personally, try to do what I have done, not repeat past mistakes and think about what I post and where so I can be an example that you can have lots of fun in ot and still be within the rules and make friends with lots of people.. I would like to see more deep thought threads that do not revolve around religion or politics though.
Those are basically the heaviest of subjucts but I agree. A astronomical topic perhaps?
mattykovax
OFF TOPIC: And to answer that thread you made, clealy it's cinema that impacts the most. WWII was very clear and real to me thanks to Band of Brothers, Thin Red Line, Platoon, Letters from Iwo Jima, Flags of our Fathers, ect. Many war movies have portrayed different aspects of war, giving it more depth than any other form of media has yet to touch. END OF OFF TOPIC
I'll make a black hole thread soon.;)
Anonymous? I'm sorry, but could you give me an example. People have been talking about the good ol OT days for years, so I don't have a frame of reference here.GAMECAMILLERWay back when, OT used to be very discussion oriented with a lot of good topics going. Now it's not so much. What Mailer is referring to is the fact that it seems to become a place that has lost it's originality. Back in an age where a spam topic could trigger great discussion.

Even the chicken censoring had lots of potential that was never fully utilized. No offense intended, but i think the problem may lay in the modding : / Not saying you guys are doing a bad job, but people are often too afraid to post ridiculous stuff for fear of it being moderated or exposed to the typical "lame fad is fad lulz!" comments. I know it's necessary to rule with an iron fist, and it's appreciated seeing as the maturity level in the OT is a LOT higher than many other forums, and people can actually have a decent discussion (at times). I guess GS just lacks a vibrant community, most people here would rather argue whether such and such should be legal or if there is a God rather than actually try and connect with other people on the site. I know I shouldn't be one to talk, seeing as I mostly come on here while doing work, but OT is just conforming to the stature of oh-so many other forums, albeit with a more serious tone. I guess one suggestion, while it has been noted over-and-over before, is simply for the mods to connect with people more and maybe establish more "community" events (weekly sticky theme about X topic? or maybe even a post a pic of your favourite [bi-weekly theme] thread?), but that may be asking a bit too much :P

I used to post because the community was great, original even. You won't find the humor RyanTheGod used to bring or the genius that was the Karl B account. Late night roll calls, RubyKnight, good spam, etc. All OT is a bunch of imitators now. Completely boring. It really has nothing to do with the topics here, but more so with the users.
I disagree. I post enough I think this batch of users could do it,they either do not know how or as has been pointed out are afraid to be original. yeah, and I remember those days too.I used to post because the community was great, original even. Cindango, GameDude, Blue LIzard and many, many others. GameDude would make a topic called "Blue or Red?" and it would trigger the most thought provoking discussion you will ever find on the internet.I used to post because the community was great, original even.
They still do, but since they're spam, they get locked. ayanami_reiOf the spam threads that I see nowadays, they don't provide (nor trigger) the discussion that N3MO is talking about.Yeah, a topic that is good discussion doesn't get locked. As people of OT - don't pay attention to the threads that get locked, pay attention to the ones that don't. That's what part of this thread I believe is shooting for, a wakeup call of sorts. We want good discussion, and we always encourage that.
Okay I can't help but feel this whole thread is ironic, of many of the people here talking about OT's downfall, I've never see any of them discuss anything before. I only see MAILER_DAEMON post when a thread needs locking. Most of the regulars just hole up in the Roll Call, and if they do post it's usually just one post and they move on.Sajo7Hey,I am very active in the ol ot. Thats why I am saying there si some potential. I honestly believe this is the best batch of users since the good old days.

They would just die out shortly after. I know the current regulars here are capable of doing that. The question really is... why aren't they? Using the ToS as an excuse is no excuse.N3MOI 100% agree with this. The current regulars COULD make this board great again.

Yes, the ToS was edited to ban Fad threads. Fads back in the day weren't topics, but rather injokes and signatures that worked themselves in the overall discussions in the OT. Fads were pushed constantly on a creative level until we came to a dead end with them. They would just die out shortly after. I know the current regulars here are capable of doing that. The question really is... why aren't they? Using the ToS as an excuse is no excuse.N3MOI'm reminded of a great thread where someone thought a girl liked him because she touched his shoulder. Soon touching one's shoulder was jokingly considered the ultimate act of intimacy and they livened up the repeat girl trouble threads. At one point it was considered disruptive posting and it more or less died out.

I'd love to see that. I don't usually hang around a forum for too long because it starts to lose interest. There's only so many similar topicsyou can read before it's like been there, done that.:P
Honestly, I can't remember how I ended up here. I don't even remember how I eventually ended up at Gamespot.
The 'Good ol' Days' started back in 2002 until I say about 2004.N3MO2005 was still pretty good. Things really dropped going into 2006 though.
Your grading gets an "A" for awesome. I've never seen a more fantastically written "F". Well I do work out....the fingers. I imagine twirling pens would help with the dexterity in your fingers.

You get a F for futile effort.Sajo7
