Say what you want about her, she's completely right on the irrationality of religion.

Oh, wow. Let the conspiracy theories begin.

QuistisTrepe_

ITT, you amuse me. I wonder who you're really trying to convince. Is it the mods, or is it me?

Yeah, you can set your profile to private. It's a little late for that. Like I said, it was not the only thing that gave it away anyhow.

ITT, I have this unfortunate (for some people) ability to remember rather trivial things if they strike me as unusual in some way.

Yeah, and who the hell are you? You don't dictate what is discussed here. Religion is certainly discussed within Objectivism.

If you had been reading this topic now going on 400 posts you would see that the religious aspect was already brought up at least once, but nobody cares. This topic has lasted this long is because people are debating how selfish she was. No reason to be mean to others beacuse you couldn't figure that out for yourself.

Before he can understand Objectivism, he ought to learn what straw man means. I don't think he can distinguish a straw man from a snow man.

StopThePresses

He was right in saying that QuistisTrepe was strawmanning him. QuistisTrepe clearly put words in his mouth.

It only helped confirm what several other clues made me suspect.

I guess he'll have to start using some other account to spew out insults or do other stuff that might seem suspension-worthy.

I knew it.

Lol. There's a whole Ayn Rand society. I had to read the fountainhead for school years ago. Decent book, interesting ideas. Don't know how much faith I put in her views on society, though.

It is like Zen Buddhism and D. T. Suzuki for the Beat movement in the 50's. He came up with some neat ideas about life, and a bunch of people who were rebelling against mainstream society took up those values and started practicing them.

I'm just saying that this thread has little to do with religion, so your post is irrelevant. No one is criticizing Ayn Rand's stance on religion. And I'm not dictating what is discussed in this thread.

I love how he deliberately skipped over my post from May. I suppose this wouldn't be the first time he fudged the facts to suit his claims.

ITT, there was something else that made it obvious to me.

There are other tells, but why make it easier for him to hide his next alt from me? That's no fun. :P He might already have others. I don't know or particularly care.

He posted with another account to back himself up and to flame at the same time. ITT, I damaged his need to feel intellectually superior to everyone. He even seems to be convinced that he will fool us if he denies it enough times.

I read Ayn Rand's novel "Anthem" in my high school philosophy class. It was an okay book that could have been better. I've never actually read any of her other published works, but taking a look at some of her philosophy, it's garbage. I knew an atheist that was obsessed with Rand's philosophy and in a way, he pretty much worshipped her as his God!

I just posted a Link showing that a majority of Homeless people are Alcoholics. I think it's reasonable to assume that they can go to a soup kitchen for food and spend the money you gave them on Alcohol. Snipes_2
And did someone say that many homeless people dont deal with alcoholism?

You on the other hand implied (by supporting bobapan's claim) that a homeless person will rush to buy booze in stead of food when he gets money, which in turn implies that they are not worth some help (which could be non-monetary).

Why would they spend it on food when they can go to a soup kitchen for free?

Because they can get better food somewhere else?

You know genius, not everyone who comes into a topic scours 18 pages and 400 posts to see what and what hasn't been brought up. Again, you don't dictate what will be discussed, so take a hike buddy.

Then you can also see how people who HAVE read through everything, don't want to take things a step back. You say you haven't read it, or at least all of it. THe topic itself has nothing to do with Objectivism, it has to do with her popularity on the internet, it changed to that shortly after, people got going how they despise her for her objectivism. And while several things were brought up, including religion, it quickly became solely about her selfishness, and how she pretty much looks at it as a virtue.

Hence, the other gentlmen saying( though a bit rude in doing so) that we were discussing Ayn and her selfishness.

Ugh, I'm an atheist and I find everything she writes abhorrent. Her writing has absolutely no substance, it's basically her making absolute statements and providing little or poor evidence and expecting her conclusions to be self-evident. As I said before, the title objectivism is truly ironic as it's basically her subjective views labeled as objective. She has no respect for logic, the scientific method, or any hallmarks of a good philosopher, the fact that she's considered a real philosopher by anyone is demeaning to academia everywhere. Finally, she basically ignores all evidecnce contradicting her views, and there is PLENTY. They should put her picture right next to the word charlatan in the dictionary.

Ayn Rand's philosophy is explicitly anti-Christian. It all stems from Nietzsche's belief that Christian morality would not hold up in an age where reason has dethroned God. As such, Nietzsche believed that there needed to be an "Ubermensch" who would forge a new path with a new morality. Ayn Rand thought she had that new morality, which was directly opposed to the Christian doctrine of helping the poor.
