[QUOTE="elite_destroyer"][QUOTE="Blood-Scribe"][QUOTE="elite_destroyer"][QUOTE="Blood-Scribe"] [QUOTE="elite_destroyer"]There are many different types of metal. Do some research.. Stone sour i can see as the only band thats not metal, more hard rockish like staind, three days grace, and seether. but all of the others is pure metal. Maybey not SOME of there work but they are all considered metal. Whether nu, christian, hardcore, thrash, etc. there all some sort of metal. Blood-Scribe
You're talking to a guy who's been listening to metal since the age of 6.
I have done my research, I have listened to a lot of metal from a broad scope of sub-genres, and often visit many communities of fans of metal.
The only metal bands on that list are Slipknot, Disturbed, and Korn. The rest of them are a mix of Metalcore and Post-Grunge.
Did your research aye? Metalcore is the New Wave of American Heavy Metal. I can agree with you that some are Post-Gunge but that is a sub genre of rock which i said that some might be hard rock. but I still consider a few of those to be more metalcore than hard rockish..
and to add Bullet for My Valentine is from Wales and there is some sort of heavy metal genre from the UK i believe... like Iron Maiden. Not saying that I would classify them as the same....
Metalcore is basically just labeled as the New Wave of American Heavy Metal. Don't worry, I've watched Metal: A headbanger's journey.
The thing about metalcore is that it's hard for it and its bands to be classified as true metal because of the mechanics involved such as breakdowns and its influence from hardcore. It relies too heavily on the style of the latter, which makes a lot of the bands fall under the scrutiny of people like me. It may sound like a bunch of elitist rubbish, but the fact that it's completely debatable on all fronts and how it doesn't line up with the general consensus of what constitutes as metal in most communities at least gives way to the notion that it shouldn't be considered metal.
Now if we get deeper into that, then we're pretty much just splitting hairs, but the fact remains that Metalcore (or the New Wave of American Heavy Metal as you call it) comes under attack for the style and sound behind it. Just the fact that we and many other people here have argued over it is enough proof. Just try going to Metal-Archives and you'll see them going at it all the time.
Now if it weren't walking such a fine line between metal and hardcore, well then there'd obviously be no point to argue over it, as it would be more clearly defined. You wouldn't have as many people going at it, because there'd be no reason to. The fact that we're arguing over it right now is plenty of reason to see part of the reasoning as to why it should even be bothered to debate over.
thanks for some what clearing that up for me, but personally I dont go that deep into wether its concidered metal or not I've grown to love the the bands I have because of there music not because of what there music is classified as. Ive herd all those bands being called metal in mags like Hit Parader, Metal EDGE and such. Maybey you people over at metal archives or whatever are too aragant to accept the fact that new bands need to have originality in there music. Which makes it hard for newer bands to to do like Killswitch, Demon Hunter and Avenged Sevenfold to do.
Just curious though, what METAL bands to YOU listen to? Cause if you dont think these bands arent concidered metal i would like to know what is metal to your standards.
Well if you want a list of bands, I'd have to search my post history for the most recent one that I posted, since my computer isn't working, and I don't have access to my library, and if I do post one, it won't be a complete list. But I'm not going to bother trying to narrow it down to favorites, because I'd never be satisfied with it.
I never said to narrow it down to favorites.. I just want to know any band that you listen to that you consider Metal.
