A specialised Paramilitary :P

specialized terrorists more like :P

Explain how they are terrorists?

it depeds on the sect, some can quite clerly be classified as terrorists but as it's pparamilitary it's hard to tell whos real IRA and who's just an irish terrorist, they all tend to get lumped under the same name

SEALs, more specifically Team 6, especially with the current climate of global warfare. SAS are extremely kick ass too. Spetsnaz are great troops but they lack the finesse needed to be true special forces, in my opinion.

the US would easily beat the SAS, they have special air units, no special infantry unit will survive aginst a special airstirke and the shear numbers of Rangers and Green berets, then you've got all the other special units on top of that

OK but you do realise that british soldiers shot dead many Irish citizens, also gunned down "suspected" IRA members as they went about there daily business. not to mention the fact they imposed laws to remove basic rights, Arrest any Irish citizen without trail and submitting them to torture, they also turned a blind eye to the massive secterian campaigns emposed by loyalist paramilitaries. the british Government already showed that they were the Bullies. The P.IRA fought an Armed campaign against British agents because of what the Irish Catholic community was being subjected to. so dont sit there saying that you had it bad, Bombs were going on around here, British soldiers were opening fire on unarmed civillians and IRA Members, houses were ransacked, curfews were imposed, secterian beatings and killings. i could go on a bit more. your government done enough to show itself as a "bully".

Bear Grylls is sick so I think I gotta go with British SAS

Navy seals get - poins for perfect push-up.....

Mafiree

How do you think that they filmed all the shots perfectly in that show? To answer your Q, TC, most Spec Ops teams in the world are on a par, but some just have more members or better equipment.

SAS are a little soft. French Foreign Legion is the ultimate disciplenary force full of people literally as hard as nails.

In terms of raw "omfg the X are coming!! *swallows cionide pill*" then SAS because they are the best trained in FISH, best snipers/most experience, British accents are exagerated in the SAS, always make best of thier resources, brave and tough.

In all actuality, this whole thread is moot and void, because we, as civilians, have neither the info nor the understanding to judge SF units.

Not to mention the fact that the best units are probably the ones we never heard of...

But from what little info we do have, I have to agree with the majority here - the SAS are probably the best.

They're like the patriarchs of modern SF units, after all.

But there are plenty more great SF units that come very close to the SAS - the American Delta's and the DEVGRU, the SASR, the Israeli Sayeret Matkal, and a whole bunch of other units around the world which are too numerous to mention.

The reason we can't really decide which one of those units is the best is simply because all of those units arrange frequent co-op training exercises, during which they share exprience and knowledge with one another, so it's hard to say which one does what best.

PS: the best snipers are Canadian, not British...

It uses French firearms and a very large chunk of it consists of French volunteers. But I do see what he attempted to do though.

FAMAS. Its an awesomely designed Assault rifle.

And they run double marathons in the sahara with double their body weight on their backs just for breakfast warm-ups. One of them could crack your head open with a head-butt. They aren't soft I can tell you that.

How the hell does that even come close to debunking it? What the British government did is COMPLETELY and UTTERLY irrelevant to the discussion and does not change what the IRA (or it's splinter groups) did.

What the British goverment and it's Agents did is what sparked an Armed PIRA campaign, so i think you will find it is completly and utterly relevant

The Provisional campaign wasnt because of a few killings, giving it escalated it but only because it increased there recruitment. the main reason was because the catholic communities rights were being tarnished. you think that we should just let a foriegn government pose what laws they feel on us? fix elections to stop Nationalist politicians getting through? Arrest who they like? do what they like for that matter? The IRA for years imposed a peaceful non violent campaign, but it wasnt being recognized. An armed struggle was the only way to make the british realise that the Irish people deserve the same rights as everyone else.

SEALs are the most well rounded but not the best at any one thing. As a whole they're the best.

French Foreign Legion is the ultimate disciplenary force full of people literally as hard as nails.

clembo1990

Oh the irony :P

I fail to see it...hmm.

Maybe he means its "French" "Foreign" legion, it is the hardest force on the plannet but its not genuinely French and France has a cultured and un-brutish stereotype.... something like that.

Thats true I wouldnt be surprised if there main weapon was a Poodle.

FAMAS. Its an awesomely designed Assault rifle.

And they run double marathons in the sahara with double their body weight on their backs just for breakfast warm-ups. One of them could crack your head open with a head-butt. They aren't soft I can tell you that.

yeah the FAMAS is a cool looking weapon but it is out performed by such European weapons as the German G36 and the British L85A2 as for the foreign legion while they are tuff more than half of them ain't French in fact a lot of them are criminals who have fled and joined up to escape prison .

If you don't have any proper arguements, then I suggest you just admit it and leave

The fact that they had no other choice doesn't matter, it's still TERRORISM.

Different goals, different training, different reasons for deployment, different areas of deployment. You can't compare Special forces.

There war was on British Agents not civilians, Civilians did die but they were not the intended target. the British were more the Terrorists in the conflict as they used fear and intimadation to keep Nationalists down, and at times Civilains were the intended target.

SEALS. SAS training comes nowhere close to what the SEALS go through during "Hell Week". SAS has a bloated, overrated reputation. Don't get me wrong, they are very good.. but their reputation is a little boated. But they both do different operations, anyway. SEALS are more water oriented. They are both different operationally. SAS training is more "casual" than SEALS training.. and I say "casual" only becuase of the comparison. SAS are treated like human beings instead of abused animals like the SEALS are. SEALS training is unmatched in terms of pressure, stress and physical and mental fatigue.

They are both badass, but they are both different.. but all I'm saying is SEALS training is harder.. so..
