1. Colorado
2. Arizona

4. Nevada
5. Washington

Hmmm, you sure about that one? Haven't been hearing much good about that State, but just government issues, passing stupid laws and what-not, but I guess you could argue that its not like other states in America haven't done that also...

I'm definitely sure about it. It's a beautiful state and a great place to live.

Michigan.

The climate is as moderate as you can get. Snowy winters and hot summers.

There are no animals that are likely to kill you (there are bear and moose, but those are so rare that they don't really count). Hardly any snakes and only one type of semi-poisonous snake.

You'll never be restricted onthe amount of water you can use because you are surrounded by the largest body of freshwater in the world.

The industrial history has left a mark on michigan culture - Michiganders tend to be business-oriented people.

Hunting, fishing, racing etc...

You only have to drive a couple hours from anywhere in the state to land at a beach that is better than any beach on the ocean due to the lack of salt in the water.

Nothing in the great lakes will kill you.

It looks cool, like a mitten.

Home to many multi-billion dollar corporations.

There are only two seasons: Winter and Construction.

Massachusetts or California. If MA didnt have such bad summer humidity, it would be even better. It's got the history, all 4 seasons are present, no earthquakes, or hurricanes, or tornados. Tons of awesome schools, and you are always within a few hours ride to the beach. Super liberal, as well. Big technology and a pretty good artistic/music outlets in Boston.

It's really expensive, though. High sales/property tax.

Captain52

Brrzzt, wrong. Looks like you haven't followed the news on what happened in MA last year, since I'm a native there, I'll have you know a Tornado occurred there June 1st, 2011, was one of the places that big Earthquake hit on August 23rd, 2011, and some parts of it were also hit by Hurricane Irene at the very end of August 2011. However, so far I think that year was the only one that State had that many abnormal natural disasters, so for some reason I think the weather there last year was in fluke mode.

I live in Massachusetts.... big earthquake? uh, was I asleep?

Not big as in destructive big, like buildings collapsing, but it was big in distance, the earthquake hit many areas and stretched for many miles, just wasn't very destructive though, that's for sure.

I have to agree with TC. Massachusettes is great. It's close to some great skiing in Vermont, has great sports teams with passionate fans, culture, diversity, and the ocean. It's also beautiful on top of everything. I wanted to go to college in Boston, it was my dream (and the only school I liked was Northeastern), but I couldn't afford it, so I changed my dream.

Colorado provided you're far enough away from the plains. The far east side of that state is as boring as Kansas with the extended flat land and crop fields. The rocky mountains is the awesomeness of Colorado :)

If Florida wasn't such a conservative ass backward state politically then it would be top 3 based of the weather, beaches and amusement parks alone. With that said, I think Colorado or Cali are top states.
definitely Cali. East coast is scorching in summer, freezing in winter, Cali is nice and temperate all year round, plus none of that nasty humidity. BMD004
Doesn't the rest of California that isn't Southern California have really cold winters?

Up by the Sierra Nevadas maybe. Along the coast, winters often get cloudy, wet, and gloomy for days at a time. I spent a couple of years at the Bay Area and four years along the Central Coast. Even summers along the Central Coast tend to be foggy and cloudy because of the marine stratus.

All that fog and stratus offshore have a tendency to blanket coastal areas:

No kidding. I wish the water would be a warmer though. The water's cold even during summer. I can swim on the lake. But, as soon as I step out of the water, I make a beeline for my beach blanket. That water is fricking cold.

We dropped by there (La Jolla/San Diego) back in February 2006. It was cold enough to require jackets. There's also snow on the mountains just east of the city.

Those mountains are part of San Diego so it does, in fact, snow in San Diego. Many people seem to think san diego is only along the coast.
