Reason vs. Faith
Philospher George H. Smith points this out in his book "Atheism: The Case Against God".Â
"The conflict between Christian theism and atheism is fundamentally a conflict between faith and reason... Reason and faith are opposites, two mutually exclusive terms; there is no reconciliation or common ground. Faith is belief without, or in spite of, reason."The point being, that arguing about whether or not God exists is fruitless. To a theist, it is possible to gain knowledge through faith. To an atheist, the only meaningful way of obtaining knowledge is through reason and reason alone. Faith is not an avenue to new knowledge.
