If you aren't a Christian, what would persuade you to become one? Also, somewhat related, why are you not one?

If you aren't a Christian, what would persuade you to become one? Also, somewhat related, why are you not one?
A resolution to my ethical problem with God as portrayed in Christianity would at least make it possible for me to be a Christian, but I don't think that I would still feel any need to become one, so nothing really. If you aren't a Christian, what would persuade you to become one? I used to be one, but I couldn't lie to myself any longer. I just didn't believe it, now matter what I was raised to believe or how hard I tried. If you aren't a Christian, what would persuade you to become one? Also, somewhat related, why are you not one?

Xaos, you do know you just opened the flood gates?
Even if God was proven to exist (which is pretty much impossible as far as the Christian interpretation of God is concerned) I still wouldn't worship him, for reasons quite nicely outlined in that great Epicurus quote.

Well, I figured if TC was going to make a meta-evangelism thread, I might as well do my part to help make sure it reaches the 500 post count before being lockedSame here mate.Even if God was proven to exist (which is pretty much impossible as far as the Christian interpretation of God is concerned) I still wouldn't worship him, for reasons quite nicely outlined in that great Epicurus quote.

I'm an atheist, and I haven't ever seen evidence that would cause me to change my views.chessmaster1989This. Even if I did believe in an afterlife/spiritual being then I still wouldn't pick a religion as none of them seem to 'get it'

Good Sir, I would say you are a person of great philanthrophy. Giving yourself so that this thread may survive.
I doubt I would ever become a christian. I certainly don't believe the bible to be true, but if it does end up being true, I don't care. I'm not fond of the bible's god or his twisted views on everything morality related. I would sooner amputate one of my arms with a butter knife than kneel before him.

Forgive them, they know not what they post :(I'd need to have concrete evidence for your God's existance. The fact no such evidence exists (nor will it in future) is why I'm not a Christian.super_mario_128That is why there are things called "faith" and "choice". I am not nor would ever knock another's beliefs. Everyone is free to choose to have faith in something higher than themselves or not. I choose to have faith, others do not. That is one of the many things that makes life in United States so great.
God would have to come down, shake my hand and invite me to his Godly residences to watch all the hot skimply clad women do their business.
Thing is, by not kneeling for him you risk, no, guarantee yourself an eternity of suffering. I'd certainly toss aside my ego to avoid that.I doubt I would ever become a christian. If standing up for what's right is egocentric then so be it.

I hear from some Christians hear that the only way to enter the kingdom of the Lord is to accept the blood of Jesus, or something; thus washing away my sins and starting anew. why is it bs? Well Christianity is based on the bible.... and the bible is BS....there are no such things as talking snakes and virgin births...
Just a quick observation: It seems the "non christians" (whatever that means) are getting more upset/animated about this topic than the "christians" This is neither good nor bad It is just the opposite of what I expectedrawsavonNon christains are tired of religious fanatics trying to change them. Christianity being true doesn't really stand or fall on either of those things. Also, you haven't given any reason why talking snakes or virgin births are impossible (assuming the snake wasn't a metaphor for Satan).

I decided to become a Christian later in my life. I was Agnostic before. When I was around 23 years old, I began searching and praying. I decided to get baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am now 42 years old and have never regretted my decision.

That's a bit stereotypical, Clayron - it's only in Catholic churches.

That has always been my take on it. That is the word 'serpent' descibes more of the personality of Satan.

Well that was definately not my intent The biggest thing I take from my beleifs is "judge not, or you will be judged" or "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" I am FAR from living sin free. So I do not judge anyone (I may not agree with others, but I do not judge) I just enjoy philisophical conversations with ALL types of people (who wants to argue/converse with people just like themself = boring)I probably wouldn't want to become a christian no matter what. Since my experiences have given me a strong distaste to everything that i consider to be related to christianity. There is also the problem with the lack of any real evidence to support the claims.
