Guys, you all disappoint me very much so. No, not because I am appalled by some of your choices, but because no one has resorted to violence yet! So I guess to get things started... To all you A Clockwork Orange, Strangers on a Train, Toy Story 3, Inglourious Basterds and Lost in Translation haters - this is for you:Nerd_Man
Sorry! :( I just find Toy Story boring and childish

I honestly could never consider A Clockwork Orange a good movie or a bad movie.. Its just there.. Specifically due to the fact the movie is just so dysfunctional and disturbing that I can't get enjoyment from it what so ever.

sSubZerOo

I feel the same way. Visually the film has this weird vibe I enjoy, but for what goes on inside of it, I am more disturbed than anything else.

The book, btw, has a final chapter that is never shown in the film, and made the experience much more enjoyable for me. Once I read the complete edition of the novel, I had a different overall feeling about the content. Apparantly though Kubrick hated that final chapter.

He did hate it, but I read that the reason he didn't include it in the film was because he was completely unaware of it at the time, since US publishers removed it in their distributions. I like both endings for different reasons.

I loved Scarface, but I don't think it's possible to take Paccino's angry scenes in that movie seriously. It was just lulzy.

Ah, I just noticed you had "Lost in Translation" in that original list. Yep, I disliked that one. But I loved one of the other art films starring Bill Murray, "Broken Flowers".

What's interesting about those two films is that they seem to be presenting the exact opposite conclusion. The first seems to be saying "Don't tie yourself up with commitments, just live for the moment", while the second seems to be saying "If you live too much for the moment and don't make commitments, you'll end up emotionally bankrupt."

Admittedly, those are rather shallow interpretations, but they work for me at the present.

I really enjoyed Broken Flowers too. I am actually just getting into the director of that film Jim Jarmusch. I like most of his films so far, except The Limits of control. That was terrible.

The Road

...hated it

rawsavon

The trailers to The Road set me up for a very different film than the one I actually saw. I still enjoyed it, though. I thought it had a unique setting. I can't recall a post-apocalyptic film where everything is dying. Usually it's society trying to eitherrebuild in some form, like The Road Warrior/The Postman, or fight robots, like in Terminator/The Matrix. I'd never seen a film where humanity is truly dying.

QuistisTrepe_

I think that's the real reason why there are so many dissenters on Crash's win, that they think Brokeback Mountain should have won instead. I don't think it's because they didn't believe Crash deserved its critical acclaim, at least for the most part.

I have no idea why Crash was even in the running in the first place. It was a terrible movie with some subpar performances, awful writing, and poorly developed characters wading through a stream of obnoxious cliches and contrived plot devices.

I thought it was a relative good movie. But that's not the point. The point I am making is that many critics thought it deserved to be in the running, but were disillusioned at its winning over Brokeback (not all of course, Ebert thought Crash was better).

The Godfather 1 and 2.

It was alright but I didn't care for it. I felt the character of Michael Corleone was unrealistic and seemed to develop from a sweet man to a psychotic killer in the blink of an eye. It didn't feel real to me.

Punch-Drunk Love

I just discussed this movie with a friend of mine today. Does anyone know the significance of the piano? It's driving me nuts...

I don't understand close to enough about that film. The colors, the piano, and Barry's odd mannerisms make the movie a mystery for me. Still really love it.
