There Will Be Blood
No Country For Old Men

I didn't enjoy either of these movies very much at all.

mattbbpl

I never "got" these movies. They seemed like average fare to me. I must be missing something because I don't see the reason for their high praise.

They were just really good, acting, plot, etc. :P

I know what you mean (mattbbpl) by not really "getting" these movies. Personally I didn't like the plot for either movie, I guess I just found them depressing and not that interesting. The acting was fine, I just didn't really enjoy either movie.

[QUOTE="TheTrueMagusX1"]

[QUOTE="Wolls"]The Godfather Lebbin

This, I had alot of issues with the Godfather. Its poorly paced, the movie goes in places where it does not and expands on it too much(i.e Michael Coreleone when he flees to italy was milked out far too long and slowed down the movie unnecessarily). Its well acted no doubt, but its poorly paced and for me that kills it, and the ending it self seems rushed compared to the build up and unneccesary slow down the film suffers from. Thats just my thoughts.

I can give you the ending. While I liked it, I can see how it could seem somewhat anti-climatic. Though the VERY last scene (Michael in his office) I found to make up for the assassination/church sequence. As for him going to Italy, I think it was a much needed detour from the dark urban expanse of New York.

Yeah, I will respectfully disagree with you on the assassination sequence. The film was slow, and then you get Vitos funeral, and then out of no where the assassins. There is a slight build up to them, but not compared to the rather slow pace of the film. As for Michael going italy, I see your point as that it was a welcome break contrast from the Urban aspect, but for me, it killed the movie for several reasons. One the Kay/Michael relationship made no sense after he went to Italy, it was like ok I fled to Italy, and I will marry this woman, and then she blows up, oh kays there I will ran back to her. Plus all the time in Italy was just not neccesary, it could of been much shorter and it made Kay feel like a back up girlfriend. Thats just me...I could go on more and more into the flaws, but as with anything else, flaws are subjective and this makes a nice respectable debate.

The Hurt Locker was horrible. I may take some heat for this. but Saving Private Ryan was meh. It wasn't terrible, but I have seen better. Now, I'm no movie snob, so maybe I don't "see" the greatness. But whatever, I like what I like.

Also, that Batman movie. People were going crazy, I thought it was decent. Also, Braveheart. It was way too long and the battle scenes were mediocre at best.

I forgot about this one: The Hurt Locker. That is the worst movie I've seen in a while. I couldn't identify with the main character for crap. His action just seem to be random, like a different person wrote each one of his scenes. The military stuff was ****ed up too. Did they do any research for this film?

I don't get why you can hate Der Untergang. It was brilliant. The acting, the way the guy who played Hitler even displayed the ticks that he had. It gave me the chills.

Yeah I hate it when movies do stuff like that on their ad campaigns. Like so many times if you see a commercial for a certain movie, they slap on "It's the greatest movie of the year!" And it's just like... "No it's not." Kinda annoying if you ask me.

I think Saving Private Ryan is boring as hell. Watched it tonight. I ended up flippin' through a Black Tom vs Deadpool arc I started on... Bourne Identity, the first out of the three, is so far from the book, that I nearly choked from crying.. The two other Bourne films were so laughably bad that they weren't even worthy of getting laughed at. Also, Peter Jackson's King Kong. Oh God. I laughed when he died, the only one in the entire cinema who cracked...

Avatar and Titanic, there is enough cheese between these two movies to end world hunger and more cliches' than a generic Stallone and Schwartzenegger action film combined.

Superman Returns got great reviews, and some of my friends really liked it, but it just bored me. :? Frustrating b/c I can usually gauge whether or not I'll like a movie from reviews, people's impressions, and my own research, but in this case, it failed me.

lol. I can see some people haven't REALLY seen bad movies. :P I've seen my fill of them (Cue: Anime). And let me tell ya, watch enough movies from different medias, and the so called "bad" ones will be viewed in a better light. This said, that also means I'm also used to seeing great stuff from different countries ect. So although the highly loved movies of our time may just fall into the "generic" category, or the "almost, but not quite!" category. And one of those movies happens to be The Dark Knight. Not a bad movie, but there is NOTHING special about it unless you haven't seen enough in general.

The Godfather Wolls

Blasphemy!

Anyways i would have to say:

1. Avatar. Good graphics and effects, but it's essentially "Pocahontas with aliens"

2. Inception. Currently ranked 3rd in imdb, ahead of many other critically acclaimed movies. (GFP2). Inception is a great movie, no doubt but the ending was a tad predictiable and shallow.

I'll just say this. Movies are highly acclaimed for a reason. If you think a movie that is universally liked by critics is bad, it's you there's something wrong with. I'm fully aware of how sheepish this sounds, but it's the truth. **** opinions and subjectivity...sometimes your opinion is simply wrong.

Hmm, a fair few:

The Star Wars series - Wow, saw that twist coming a mile away. And oh look, they're comparing sizes with their light sticks. How dull. And Jar Jar must die, please, that would probably be the best scene in a movie ever.

The Matrix movies - That was easy to figure out, though the acting is so wooden that a plank has more life.

300 - It oozes testosterone so much that Popeye wouldn't need spinach, just a tocuh of the case for the movie to get his muscles going.

Jurassic Park - Pretty CGI, so where's the acting? Yes, do run from the big T-Rex when you were told not to move, and please, keep screaming your head off and luring those beautifully rendered raptors over to you. And the movies are done, at last.

Titanic - You know, Decaprio should just keep asking to die in movies, at least that was the only thing about the movie that wasn't told in history! Yes, the ship sinks, now you've seen it, move on.

The recent Star Trek movie: Wait, Kirk is what, 25, 24, he's newly graduated from Starfleet Academy and while he may have saved the Earth from a very bitter Romulan, he still doesn't have the kind of experience needed to be a captain. But hey, this is Hollywood, let's just give him command of the Federation flagship, despite his inexperience as a whole, and send him out to strut his chin and give that winning smile, any wars, no problem, his chin will save the day!

The recent Transformers movies - A mini robot getting fresh with a young woman's leg, oookay. An OAP robot who shoots parachutes out his tail pipe, teens who need cold showers, majorly,and Megatron being defeated by the male teen hero. And there were some other Transformers there somewhere when the humans were done talking and struting. And there's more, but I think it's best to say nothing more. Bad, so bad.

Lord Of The Rings - Good movies, beautiful, but talk about obsessed over a piece of jewellary. Honestly, villians really need to sort out their lives. So what if it makes you all powerful? Just Ebay!

There's more, but I think I've said what I can.

Opinions aren't wrong. How someone perceives something is just how their mind works. Just because a group of people like something doesn't mean everyone has to like it. That why movies can gain a cult following. There are movies that are highly acclaimed by critics that a good portion of people dislike and vice versa. Opinions aren't fact and can't be true or false.

That's one philosophical perspective, yes.
