The CIA releases information many many years into the future, when the effects of their crimes have already been felt. If the public knew exactly how clownish our government is behind closed doors, it might put pressure on the government to change its ways.Choga

Not just your country though, just this thread seems to only be concentrating on the America Government but plenty wrong with other governments, the one here in the UK included.

Here's a nice leak - taxpayer-funded security company pimps little boys to stoned cops in Afghanistan. ****'s so bad the Afghan Interior Minister asked the US to quash the story, but the embassy advised him to chill. They basically gambled on the worthlesness of the media, and guess what - Washington Post's article about this was neutered to the point of near-falsehood.

11 Afghans were arrested for this, but none of the "foreign mentors" (that's the term used by the freakin' minister).

I suppose it would have been better for the security of the US if this cable was never leaked...

The Guardian article about the cable

Link to another article which presents this, uh, ritual better:After the show is over, their services are auctioned off to the highest bidder, who will sometimes purchase a boy outright. And by services, we mean anal sex: The State Department has called bacha bazi a "widespread, culturally accepted form of male rape." (While it may be culturally accepted, it violates both Sharia law and Afghan civil code.)

Assange said in an interview with Forbes that Wikileaks' next megaleak would be on a major US bank and he said it might potentially take it and some other banks down. I'm sure Americans would like to know what C-level executives are doing with their money.

How Assange release information so vital to our national security? This is an outrage! He should be tried for treason!

The corrupt governments around the world cheer for a chinese guy who opposes the lies and oppression of the chinese government and give him a nobel price. Yet when the same happens with a guy on their side he is a filthy terrorist. Gotta love the honesty.kuraimen

Thanks for posting - I don't really like threads like this because we always get someone who has these weird theories and false patriotism. Its sad to see people buying into the national security bs they're threading. And the girl already went public about it being consensual.

I heard about this too, I think maybe they would try to put some sort of act so they can charge him with somthing... It could have been an easy conspricacy to bring up because you can get anyone to put claims to these. you know what I mean? So I am unsure how these cour hearings will play out.

If they did do this to stop him from leaking, than I believe they will fail, while he is in prison, others on his staff will continue to leak information. Which, I am okay with because I believe his documents are probably the most truthful informaiton about our government, whereas, anything from governments tends to be scripted, which leaves out important information.

Pathetic is what is happening. Where is the freedom of speech and right to know the truth? Blaming WikiLeaks for its potential "cause of deaths"?

Espada12

Obviously they do not have any facts about this situation because they would have tried him with treason and what not. So, his leaks are propbably scripted before releasing.

none of the them have the "facts" on their side. For all we know both sides could be lying. But one side put the documents away and then got mad after they released.. so logic tells me that wikileaks is right and the government is wrong. simple.

Now Wikileaks supporters are trying to steal people's credit card information by hacking the MasterCard website.

Just goes to show that Wikileaks supporters are by and large criminals.

Whatuptho

For the most part they will be federally insured and get their money back.

Thats if of course Bank of America was shut down because of this and that is very doubtful.

It will likely be damaging but I doubt they have info that could effectively close them down

I don't have a MC, but I hope these hackers end up releasing credit card numbers of some Wikileak supporters. That would be great.

It would be poetic justice and will make those people that support Wikileaks accountable for their own hypocrisy. It has nothing to do with my opinion, it has to do with Wikileak supporters' opinions. They should have no problem with their own information stolen and published online, they're all about transparency of information.

Wikileaks is all about revealing information about the shady and possibly illegal operations of the government. Why you would compare that to people's credit card information is beyond me.

He is clearly a government spy put here on Gamespot to locate the dissenters. You know those people who get banned by the mods. Its actually a plot as LJ goes around killing us one by one. When someone dies the mods come in and "ban" the person which clears up any nasty mess left behind.

Its surprises me how much american's are opposed to free speech.

Whatuptho

how is that free speech?

he didnt write the articles, they were STOLEN

are you telling me that if i hacked your personal accounts , myspace, facebook, photobucket etc. etc

as well as released your address, where you work, where you can be found, bank deposit boxes i can exercise that as FREE SPEECH??

None of the articles were stolen.

Hacking said accounts would be a violation of your laws.

You do have the right to release that information.

Huh did you really say that lol that is a huge stretch in logic. Just because I support wikileaks exposing currupt governments or basically big mouth officials I should have my personal info stolen and published. The government is supposed to support the will of the people but most people don't know what the govenment is doing. What is worse is many don't seem to care. Most of the people here have not even looked at most of the stories on wikileaks.

Eh much of what was released was not something that surprised anyone. Thus, there was nothing new released. However, I find the motivations suspect. Seems people are willing to be skeptical....but only on one side. Perhaps questioning both sides might give a clearer picture......

well on one side we have a government that lied about a war, on the other we have a site that publishes leaks sent by informants.

Im questioning both sides motives. But one of them was proven to be dishonest before, so im going to be on the side of wikileaks for now.

Im questioning both sides motives. But one of them was proven to be dishonest before, so im going to be on the side of wikileaks for now.

Half-Way

Leaked documents and at least one video that was edited and editorialized incorrectly. I don't trust people that edit to tell me the truth TBH...

i was talking about the government lying about the motives behind the "war on terror" , "weapons of mass destruction" ect.

Eh...everything was already out about the war on terror...which is in response to 9-11 by the way and the WMDs that Iraq had but removed before the Iraq War. Didn't really need WikiLeaks for that at all. Nonetheless, I was talking about how disingenuous they are to edit the material they release. That smacks of an agenda...and not a truthful one.

Iraq wasn't fought over 9-11. Which is apparently what your link says. That's not a secret dude. WikiLeaks didn't uncover that.

If we had Wikileaks back then it would have been even more obvious that the whole WMD deal was a lie. We need more Wikileaks to protect us from the real enemies!!

WikiLeaks has ZERO to do with this being public knowledge. Did you not pay attention to the news at the time?

BTW as more time pass I honestly believe Assange is the face of a movement to get this bill passed.

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2010/11/senator-web-censorship-bill-a-bunker-busting-cluster-bomb.ars

I'm sure support for this is increasing the more assange leaks, no matter how trivial the actual data is. Remember guys, a democrat introduced this bill.
