I'd say District 9, I'm a huge Tarantino fan but D9 was far better. Inglourious Basterds was just kinda ok, definitely not one of the better Tarantino movies
Saw District 9 last weekend, great story with characters you can actually feel for and one of the best Sci-Fi movies in awhile. Inglorious Basterds was my favorite Tarantino film by far and was a phenominal movie. If you wanna see Nazi's getting F'ed up, then seeing that, plus Brad Pitt was hilarious in it.
Ach, I knew this comparison would come up! Well it depends, you want a smart scifi go District 9, you want hilarious humor and gritty, over-the-top story, go Basterds. I haven't seen D9 yet but I hear great things, but I did see Basterds and it was PHENOMONAL. Just don't expect a bucket-load of insane violence every minute, its really spread out and its more spy thriller, dialogue, and story driven movie than an action one.
i have the same exact problem, me and my friends can't decide which one to see over the weekend :( we might end up seeing district 9 since it's more of a 'theatre movie', and basterds is pretty much a drama.

I think Basterds is a more enjoyable film by far!!! Though, both are cinema movies. D9 is genius on some levels, but it's storytelling is lacking. It aims for alternate reality, but noone real on the planet we call Earth would behave like this. Basterds on the other hand handles a real world event in a fantastical manner and succeeds immensely imo.
I saw D9 last week and I'm going to see Inglorious Basterds later today so I couldn't tell you. Though, if you can I recommend you watch either Moon or (500) Days of Summer.
I saw both and I would have to say Inglourious Basterds. District 9 is great and if youre not a big Tarantino fan then maybe its better for you but Inglourious Basterds is a great movie experience.
