What is it that makes you certain that God does not exist?

He never said that he was certain that God doesn't exist...

You sure like to parse words don't you? I asked him the question, not you. I am quite certain that he is able to answer the question without your assistance if he chooses to answer. He said he did not believe in God. When one does not believe in God, that usually means that they don't believe He exists. If he means something else then let him answer the question.

Here's the catch; you were wondering why he was certain that God didn't exist, where-as Thagypsy did not mention that he was "certain" he did not exist. You are going by the assumption that he was certain that God did not exist, and because of this, you're the one at fault here.

No, you are incorrect. He stated that he does not believe in God. I never stated that he said that he was certain that God did not exist. I simply asked him a follow-up question to ask him if he was certain that God does not exist, probing for the evidence he based his disbelief on. That is perfectly acceptable.

"What is it that makes you certain" is a statement which you used to not only put words in his mouth but also put him into a corner, which was not necessary. If you want to use a better statement in the future that won't get you attacked again, you should use "What is it that makes you believe that God does not exist?", which is a far more appropriate question for the situation at hand.

You may have meant that all along, but you already posted the original question and the damage has been done. I myself would like to see what Thagypsy has to say in return, if anything at all.

It's amazing the word-play some people will go through to avoid answering a question. To say he doesn't believe in God, then he must be certain God doesn't exist. It would be worse to admit there was a chance that God existed (thus not stating that God doesn't exist) but still not believe in Him. That would just make absolutlely no sense. So I say again, to say he doesn't believe in God is to say he is certain God doesn't exist.

I'll ask it as well, what is it that makes you so certain that God does not exist?

Funky_Llama

Wrong.

I don't deny that there is a chance that God exists. I also don't deny that there is a chance that I'll win the lottery; that doesn't mean that I believe that I will win.

Your example is completely different from somebody saying they don't believe in God but aren't certain He doesn't exist.

Infer all you want, here is what I asked, "What is it that makes you certain that God does not exist?" Gee, the word why is no where to be found.

If it will make you happy, I will rephrase it and ask him, "Why don't you believe in God?" and "What evidence do you base that disbelief on?"

Happy now?

No it isn't. Not beliving that something exists does not imply believing that it does not exist. Simple as that.

Have you ever hated anyone? Have you ever used God's name in vain? Like as a swear word? After you answer these, I'll quote you and ask you a few more. I'll answer them along with you guys. God bless, Crushmaster.Crushmaster

Again, if somebody says they don't believe in God, then it is perfectly acceptable to arrive at the conclusion that they are certain He doesn't exist. So he didn't put words in his mouth. As far as putting him in a corner, he did no such thing. Thagypsy proclaimed in this forum that he doesn't believe in God, it's ok to question him about that belief. You and llama are the only ones cornering anybody. You tried to use word play to corner blackregiment, unsuccessfully I might add.

All this work to avoid, what should be a simple question if he's so sure of his belief. Still waiting for that answer though...

The fallacy in this premise is that the truth of God's word is not dependent on whether we believe it is true or not. Truth is not dependent on our perception and beliefs. It is not dependent on what any human says or believes about it.There is far more evidence for the truth of God's Word than against it.

Shad0ki11

What have you done?! You brought it back, like an irritatingly holier-than-thou Frankenstein's monster!

That is not a very nice thing to say.

But still true :o

and the truth cannot be delivered with novocaine. ;)

Ok, since you are asserting that his statement is true, then prove that it is, that posting something on and Internet forum is the equivalent of what he stated. Personal opinions do not count. Evidence please?

I'm only using a line that you've used multiple times in the past.

Sorry but that is Ann Couler's line. I may have used it before but "multiple times", prove it! You can't! You are putting forth a false premise.

If you want to focus on the importance of words, then let's focus on some important ones. You might want to focus on these, faith, Christ, and eternity. The book of Revelation will give you a good idea of their importance.

Wrong.

I don't deny that there is a chance that God exists. I also don't deny that there is a chance that I'll win the lottery; that doesn't mean that I believe that I will win.

If one doesn't buy a lottery ticket then they little chance of winning. If one does not put their faith and trust in Christ, then they have no possibility of eternal salvation.

Bottom of this thread.

I know you used it in an evangelism thread before. I can't find it because it's dead.

Are you attempting to be dishonest here?

I could have sworn you used it at least one other time.

Hey guys what's happening in this stimulating topic? A semantics debate, people trying to diss LJ, a satire of the way of the master, mindless repetitive crap?

Oh me oh my count me in.

The ball is in your court whether or not you are being honest.

IF you are being honest, I'm leaving it at that and I apologize. I have no time to dig through your post history, and look through all your posts loaded with Bible quotes just to find one sentence.

IF you're not being honest, then God have mercy on you.

Shad0ki11

Congratulations, you have made a mountain out of a mole hill. You made a false accusation that you cannot back up. You were called on it, and cannot support your false allegation, and now you want to question my honesty?

1Th 4:6 That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.

By the way, Christ has had mercy on my soul, He will do the same for you if you sincerly put your faith and trust in Him.

Think about it.

First I saw the poll and I was like :). Then I saw the TC's post and I was like :( not another annoying religion thread.deepdreamer256

Exact same here..... I don't think the TCWU should making be this biased by bringing whether or not people abide to Christianity in to it.

I don't necessarily think a good person is one that avoids all of the traits you've listed. A good person understands that people aren't perfect and learns from their experiences. Some of the things you listed just plain go against human nature, and I think a good person embraces their humanity. I think I am a good person.michellez

This.

I myself would like to see what Thagypsy has to say in return, if anything at all.

blackregiment

Sorry friend but I don't structure my questions to meet your pleasure. You might want to play your word games elsewhere.

Sorry if using proper English skills in a debate is considered "word games" to you, but you'd be surprised how much confusion can be created by using one word instead of another.

If you want to focus on the importance of words, then let's focus on some important ones. You might want to focus on these, faith, Christ, and eternity. The book of Revelation will give you a good idea of their importance.

.. And this is where the ridicule begins. That's like saying to someone "That's not real music, go listen to such-and-such a band and that's real music".

That's all you people do; Take other people's opinions, make them seem null and void, and then replace them with your own narrow-minded views.

There exists a world outside of Christianity: It's a nice one. Try it.

"Have you ever looked with lust" - appreciating someone's hotness does not make you a bad person. As for the topic title, i'm freaked out by the concept of karma too often to be a bad person. :P

I just posted a link without making any allegations. If you're carrying a guilty conscious because of what I posted and feel like I'm attacking you then, well... I don't know what to say to that.
