They are incredibly boring.

Yeah I was never very fond of them and so pretty much stopped going to them when I grew up. Looking back however I think it was a good thing for a growing lad considering how racially diverse my various Aunts and Uncles tended to be. Sadly most of them eventually devolved into dreary, unintelligent left and right wing extremism with my father holding out as a full on conspiracy nutter.
No, they're usually kind of fun, plus we usually have good food at them. Back when we were kids things used to be more unpredictable, one time during my grandma's birthday me, my sister and two of our cousins were riding bikes in my grandma's neighbor's yard and I rode my bike down the hill, when I got back up the hill to the yard two, I saw that my two cousins were gone from the yard (they were in my grandma's yard) and one of my cousin's bikes was on the ground. In the short time it took me to ride down the hill and walk my bike back up, my cousins had gotten into an arguement over something and one cousin pushed the other one's bike over.
I used to when I was a rebellious d!ckhead.
Now however I don't find them so excruciating anymore. Plenty of interesting people in my family to talk to if I can manage to keep myself away from the nagging of the old hags. An enterpreneur, three driving teachers, a psychologist, an electronics store owner, a physician and a photographer (yes, an actual professional photographer). And I'm the guy who knows math in all of this.
Nope. Why would I hate family gatherings? Family and relatives are usually the only ones who'll back someone unconditionally even if that person is a total prick.
When so-called friends turn their back on you, who else you can fall back to? Making chitchat with relatives can be profitable especially during birthdays and Christmas.
Wtf are you 50-60 years old or something? And my family usually has gatherings based upon which side (mom or dad) of the family it's dealing with. Can't remember there ever being a time where both sides (or some from both sides) were all present though. The gatherings are usually for Holidays (Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, etc.), and they're not all that bad, but my dad's side tends to be a little more fun to hang out with. My mom's side is usually just laid back, and we'd just talk about whatever's going on in our live's. Either way, I just bring my laptop with my, and play games/browse the interbutts. My mum's 91. Any family gathering is a blessing, even the boring ones.

I like family gatherings, though it's annoying when male and female relatives are segregated for no good reason.ghoklebutterFAMILY gatherings, you have segregations within your own family??? segregation within your own blood then somethings definitely wrong.

lol I worded that poorly sorry
I mean when the male relatives sit in one place and the female relatives sit somewhere else. That stuff annoys me. But our family is pretty strong. =]
and LOL at people against these gatherings, you will have a sad lonely ending to your life with nothing but worldy material around you.
To be fair, people can avoid loneliness through friends and partners. But yeah, family is still important.and LOL at people against these gatherings, you will have a sad lonely ending to your life with nothing but worldy material around you.

its slightly the same for me, but not because of culture or religion, but usualy the women would just most of the time want to be talking and gossiping with other women, and they always get the nice room.[QUOTE="GrayF0X786"]To be fair, people can avoid loneliness through friends and partners. While I do love money and power, I disagree with the Italian mafia on one thing: that "blood" is so important. I might be related to my family, sure, but I don't really like them. We aren't alike. We live in different parts of the country. Different circles. Sure I can knock back a few beers with my cousins but I do think family is a bit overrated. So much better relationships available with so called "strangers".and LOL at people against these gatherings, you will have a sad lonely ending to your life with nothing but worldy material around you.

I think they're okay because there are a lot of relatives on both sides of the family. So even while I can't really indentify with most of them (mostly because my parents decided to start our family way out in San Diego as opposed to Denver or El Paso), there are a few relatives here and there that I have a great time having conversations with. There's always something going on too and they're not really boring to go to because of that. Last, but not least, there's always great food.
[QUOTE="MrPraline"]So much better relationships available with so called "strangers".FMAB_GTOYou've never been soooo right! Except my sisters and mom,i can't replace those with strangers hehe =P Oh definitely, agreed. I have great relationships with my parents and sister. Just never had much connection to my other family members. Probably how I was raised. idk

I hate them, and avoid them like the plague. I'm a Christmas and Funerals kind of guy when it comes to family.
Sit there listening to snobbish/snide comments about their new cars and then watch the usual suspects sucking up to the old folks to make sure they're still in their will?
NO THANKS

Because I think that sex segregation is silly and there's no need for it. I'm from a very conservative Muslim family, FYI.
