Do you support *** marriage?

Do you support the legalization of gay marriage in all of the states, and not just one? What is your reasoning? Do you think it is justified without the use of religion?

My opinion: I support gay marriage 100%. It is not people's fault that they are gay It is not people's fault that they are straight or bisexual. Those things cannot be controlled. They are deep, emotional feelings and attractions. You can't change who you are, or who you are attracted to.

There isn't a single valid, legal reason why gay marriage should be banned. Remember: Marriage isn't even about religion. Marriage is a government activity. You sign paperwork and documents, and you get a marriage license. Then, if you want to have a religious ceremony--that is fine. However, it does nothing except something spiritual for you. Remember: Atheists get married, non-religious people get married, Hindus and others get married.... so obviously the legality has nothing to do with religion.

So, that is why you can't even bring religion into this debate. That would not only have absolutely nothing to do with the law, but it would also imply that you are trying to govern a nation on your personal religious beliefs.

Yeah, you might be onto something there. You see, I would be in favor of calling it a partnership, or a union... or whatnot. That would make perfect sense. HOWEVER, any other "partnership" (including Christian partnerships... or marriage... whatever) would have to be called a Partnership or a Civil Union under the government law. Not their own spiritual law. That means that if you want to be a joined couple with the government, it can't be called marriage... even if you are Christian. Why? Because we should seperate church from state. Everyone would be equal.

See, and that is such a great thing that we are all agreeing so far in this topic. Diversity is just so awesome. It is just... amazing. We are such a diverse nation, but we can all come together and work together, play together, etc.

It just brings a smile to my face. We are all different, but we should all support each other. Recognize each other. It's wonderful. :D

And I don't understand why they allow people to get gender reasignment surgeries, but they don't let gay people get married... In my opinion, gay marriage is alright, but changing your sex is being someone you're not, and that's not alright.....

Marriage in and of itself doesn't MAKE you happy, but it's very possible to be in a loving, happy marriage.

Um...no. Marriage existed for all societies. For example, the marriage existed in Chinese society since long long time ago and Christianity was not known back then. So marriage is NOT a Christian traditional.

It should be voted on by the states. The federal government is way too powerful already.

Frankly, I don't care. If a vote came up tomorrow in my state, I would vote no simply because I don't want this to just become the gay state. Violence would skyrocket.

I suppose that they should have the right to marriage but it's still kind of up in the air for me.

In my opinion there is no compelling argument to deny homosexuals from getting married. Civil Partnerships do not provide the same legal & financial benefits that marriage upholds. Various religions will always have varying opinions and may want to uphold religion as a sacred act - however the only constant is that marriage is essentially a governmental contract of which religious ideal and dogma have nothing to do with.

As a Christian all you can do is adhere to your own religions principles, without imposing your views & dogma on individuals outside your sphere of influence. So as long as you are not partaking in a gay marriage what should you care if someone else does.
