I agree with the topic creator. I may not be an expert on Middle Eastern culture, but I have enough common sense to realize that not everyone there is a dirty evil terrorist like the media tries to make them out to be and that our soldiers are not the chivalrous heroic knights they pretend to be. Yet I sometimes feel like the only person who realizes this, it's gotten to where I just keep my mouth shut all the time in the real world because any time I disagree with the things my government does I get the third degree from family and neighbors who believe all the propaganda their fed about America being the most perfect Utopia in the world. America is downright racist towards muslims right now and that's all there is to it. I guess leopards really don't change their spots even when you'd think we learned our lessons about Civil Rights and Equality.

Oh well, at least I have faith in karma.

I hope you also take a dim view of groups who think it's OK to clip the sexual organs of their males.

I wonder why civilian Muslims die in a conflict, the media just uses some euphemism e.g. collateral damage. Maybe if things were different we wouldn't have as many war mongering chicken hawks in the government.

of course, but if you're referring to circumcision then that's a different discussion as it has nothing to do with being sexual such as what they do to females in the middle east

dont see how it's laughable with haveing kids go to school everyday to get them to sing the national anthem and getting them to become patriotic.

and alot of american flag wavers are kinda psycho

I find the whole flag thing in America very odd. I'm from the UK and I see way more Korean flags then any other flag a day. Seeing a English flag or the Union Jack or hearing the national anthem is rather uncommon.

You only see American flags on government buildings in the US as a rule.

I think a lot of people that don't live in the U.S like to give a lot of opinions about the U.S in general. It's never good to generalize, my grandmother is the only person in this house that watches the news.

Most people don't watch the news nor care for it honestly.

And another thing.... here in New York City i can't speak for the government but the people here celebrate a day off where they can enjoy a picnic and fireworks not the flag in 4th of july so while other countries are yelling we're the best country in the world in here i just see people having a good time.. might be because of all the different cultures here but i feel better that things are that way rather than the ignorance of patriotism... like if you can choose where you're going to be born... i've hardly seen anyone with the flag and be proud of it people just want to party honestly. Most people are against what the government does anyhow.

No. Extremists and even "moderate" Muslims do a good job of painting a bad picture of themselves. For example, the Muhammad cartoon controversy, the Muhammad teddy bear, and protests in Europe to name a few. But I won't disagree that the American media does tend to over-exaggerate on frivolous issues or matters.

It's not the US, it's the media in general. Exactly the same happens all over the world, the real problem is the politics. They abuse the one-sided views of the media for their own agenda, making it look like it's actually true

Yes. Propaganda nowadays is a lot easier to produce than it was 70 years ago. The masses will believe anything and most won't even realize what they are seeing is propaganda. Then 100 years from now people will be wondering how we fell for this sh*t even though they are falling for newer propaganda.

No way. The US media is actually going out of its way to portray muslims in a positive light, at least when it comes to journalism and documentaries. Contrast that to European media where even the documentaries are unabashedly anti-muslim. It seems like every month the BBC puts out another documentary that slams British muslims, and I saw one German documentary that blamed muslims for all of Germany's problems (which is pretty hilarious/alarming given Germany's history with ethnic scapegoats). The main problem is that currently the most active terrorist groups relevant to Western countries all happen to be Islamic, and it's been this way for a long time (starting with airline hijackings and bombings back in the 80s). As a result, in Western culture the word "terrorist" is synonymous with "muslim extremist" and when you have an idea that entrenched in your culture then of course the popular culture is going to reflect that.

See what I mean, there's no such thing "clipping sexual organ's of their females" in Islam. Uneducated people do such practices. Blame the people who do it not the religion. Hell Islam clearly states that your body is a blessing, take good care of it and do no mutilate it in any form. Your source of info is wrong.

Do you think its wrong to require an immigrant to say the pledge of allegience?

Philokalia

no if they want to let them

They have to, or they can't be citizens.

First of all, you don't have to say the Pledge to become a citizen. I just did the ceremony about a month ago. Second, what do you expect? The point of becoming a citizen isn't just to get the perks of citizenship, but to be able to consider yourself a true American. By getting citizenship, you are renouncing your citizenship to your former country. Essentially, you cut your legal ties to that country. This is the case in most countries, not just the US.

i watched a documentary last night in which 5 different muslims from different sects and areas of the world were asked whether or not it was wrong to kill the infidels.

not one would either answer at all or say it was wrong.

make of that what you will.

don't feel bad though muslims, the christians are just as big of asses as evidenced by the silly shyt they constantly pull as you are.

Riverwolf007

Ah the infamous "killing the infidel" question. I can straight up point if it's wrong or right. The line is a fraction of the original verse that completely alters the meaning. First of all let me point out that Islam states that if a non-muslim is living in a Muslim nation, he/she should be given all the resources and rights just like any other Muslim. Secondly, Islam says if you kill ONE person, wether it be muslim or non-muslim, you'll be punished as if you killed the whole humanity. Lastly, Islam allows to kill "infidels" if and only if they attack you first and you're at war to defend your home. That's what the complete verse says. I hope it clears the misconception.

The overarching veil of terrorism and the explicit third-world esque imagery/messages that are purported give the outside audiences a quite one-sided view of the current happening. This is especially in respect to how grossly inferior the said countries (outside Israel in the Greater Middle East) are showcased in regards to liberties found in the Western-First-World.

I watch Pakistani news channels a lot and Pakistan is too busy dealing with it's own corrupt leaders. The only "anti-American" news that pops in once in a while is regarding the US drones and how many innocent civlians are being killed by the war.

In the US the only time I've seen mention of Muslims is after a terrorist attack if it's done by a Muslim. So then why make this thread?

Do you think the Pakistani media showcases americans in good light? Medias are generally biased.

Or watching a GOP debate

Because if a Muslim commits a hate crime in the U.S they labelize the person as a MUSLIM where as they never do that to a Christian or a Jew.

Did you miss when the media talked about ANders Brevick? Which later turned out to be full of rubbish mind you, the guy was a secularist. But often reason why the media doesn't talk about Christian and jewish terrorist attacks is well because they don't typically happen. Every day I see cases of where muslims do these things and often is because of their religious beliefs. Every single day.

Hate crimes always identify if the individual has a group affiliation....and they also identify the group that was acted on. If a white dude hated Muslims and killed a Muslim man...he'd be charged with a hate crime. The reverse would not be charged as such.

My point exactly because the media only focuses on Muslims these days. There's massive killings taking place in every part of the world that does not mean muslims are the only ones doing this kind of nonesense. The media is just focused on the mid-east and I'm sure you know why.

If you're implying that muslims are the ones commiting the most crimes in the U.S then that's not true at all.

[QUOTE="-DirtySanchez-"][QUOTE="m25105"] Yes, cause it was Islam that told the western leaders to invade their countries, stage coups against their democratic elected leaders, sanction them to the point where 500,000 children dies. Mhm.t0taldj

oh shut the f*ck up, i never wanna hear people defend a group that thinks its ok to clip the sexual organ's of their females

See what I mean, there's no such thing "clipping sexual organ's of their females" in Islam. Uneducated people do such practices. Blame the people who do it not the religion. Hell Islam clearly states that your body is a blessing, take good care of it and do no mutilate it in any form. Your source of info is wrong.

nice of you to spin that to fit your side i didnt say Islam was responsible, tho people who follow that religion are so there is that
