Yes, the world will indeed end one day. Billions of years from now the Sun will have expanded to the point of literally consuming the Earth. Of course before that happens all life on Earth will burn to death do to the extreme heat.

It has the potential to add relevance/substance to your convictions, which can in an inherent fashion give "purpose" to your life.

It´s not so much a question about being scared, as it is a question of being "right".And God knows, people love to be right, and people love to have an opinion, regardless of the subject at hand.

All of these factors will fuel the fire.

On a small sidenote: I doubt more than a small percentage of the earth populace actually believes this doomsday to true in nature, but something having ties to fact or science is not a requirement in order for something to be believed or relevant.

No, actually, they didn't. That's a common misinterpretation of the Mayan calendar. It's cyclical, not linear. December 21, 2012 is meant to be the beginning of another age that will bring about great social and technological advancements, and the Mayans had big celebrations whenever a new age was heralded in.

As for that last part, I don't even know what to make of that...

Well the Muslims are taking over the world. In fifty years, England will be a predomint Muslim country. The fertility rate in Englend is....1.2 while muslims there are like 8.6 this means soon there will be plenty of muslims, but no English, because they are not having enough childeren. Canada is in the same boat. America s around 2.2. the Way to kepp healthily growing is 2.1. So America needs to be carefull.

Katanas are pretty thin and if you haven't practiced or trained with one, you're probably just going to end up breaking it.
