I dont understand where people get the assumption that because the Mayan calender ends on that year, so does the world.

There's more to it than that... The Mayans made a doomsday prophecy. The reason there's a stir about 2012 is because the Mayans have predicted other events in the past that have actually been quite accurate. It's not because the calandar ends...

No and if it does, it will be by sheer chance and nothing to do with prophecy.

No, do not believe the world will end in 2012. Why? Nothing has been shown to me to suggest otherwise.

None of those predicted the end to be 2012.

actually, they did. do your research.

The Mayans never predicted the world would end in 2012. It is merely the end of an age, An age is called such because it is the time when three of the calendars new years fall on the same day.

Could be that this is a dream and i wake up 2012. But other than that i don't know...
It had something to do with earths magnetic field or so.
But You can't help after being lied to so many times, to just walk away when hearing such talk.

KungfuKitten

The polarity in Earth's magnetic field is suppose to switch sometime in the next thousand years or so. All our compasses will point south instead of north. But this has happened many times in the past without anything very dramatic happening.

That is not correct. They infact did make a prediction of the worlds end... see link below.

Oh I don't know look at the hundreds if not thousands of so called propehcies that were wrong on the end of the world.. Prophecies have no data of ever being accurate, and if on their rare occassions they are.. Gee. A blurb to sell a tv show. Perhapos you can show me documented proof as to the Mayans predicting that the world woudl end in 2012. They did not predict it would end. They predicted that there would be an 'enlightening'. Those prophecies that came true that you are alluding to are most likely the Mayan wars. The end of every age is suppose to be a time of great upheavel as was the cyclic transits of Venus. During these times the Mayans believed there was going ot be times of great wars. Basically they made their own predictions come true.

You realize that the History Channel has played the biggest role in propagating a lot of the myths surrounding the whole 2012 doomsday theory, right? They've sensationalized the issue, and it's not like this is the only case. They're notorious for sugar-coating the past and standing on shaky ground. No credible Mesoamerican scientist is going to say that any of the hype surrounding 2012 is true.

Yeah, it's really a shame that the History Channel has been allowed to keep its name, since it deals so much in tabloid-level sensationalism :(

Many are fake and I do agree that most are blind speculation, but the mayans' atsrological observations have been surprisingly accurate. All I'm saying is that life is ful of surprises and things that make little sense, and there is always that possibility that the 2012 predictions hold water.

I suppose we will just have to wait and see.

The world may end on that year, I do not think it has anything to do with the Mayans prediction.. Furthermore most argue all 2012 means is the beginning of a new time period for them rather than the end of the world. Furthermore what makes a prophecy legitimate or fake?

The Aztecs predicted that we would, but there is no way. Not any time soon. I predict at least a thosand years. At least. What with the Muslims and all.

talonkarrde07

Care to elaborate on that last part of your comment?

Well the Muslims are taking over the world. In fifty years, England will be a predomint Muslim country. The fertility rate in Englend is....1.2 while muslims there are like 8.6 this means soon there will be plenty of muslims, but no English, because they are not having enough childeren. Canada is in the same boat. America s around 2.2. the Way to kepp healthily growing is 2.1. So America needs to be carefull.

You can´t be serious. But i kind of suspect that you are. =|

a predominantly muslim demographic does not herald the end of the world.

Just... Just no.

Well, life on Earth will end in about 5 billion years when the sun runs out of hydrogen to burn, and goes out (not exploding, but out).

I don't think that it will end in 2012, mostly because the same things were said to be happening in 2000 (Y2K), 2001, and 2006 (06/06/06).

Life on Earth will end when its core cools, which I think is sooner than the Sun right?

What I've read from scientific research is that the sun is currently expanding. It will continue to d oso and will completely engulfe the Earth, as they say. From measurements Idon't know how they took some long time ago compared to todays tests shows that it may be growing. But, the Earth will be either destroyed or something else before our sun fizzles.

I'm starting to hope it does, just so, for a few days, we can see the reactions of people who said it would never end.

I personally hope a bunch of zombies take over or something. I'd love to kill zombies.

Something insane might happen, there are so many different people from all different beliefs claiming something will happen. Hopefully Terence Mckenna's Novelty Theory/Timewave will come true. It would be sweet to be around when humanity transcends our current state. Time travel, worldwide alien contact, a conscious AI, or all of them happening= AWESOME. I find Sumerian history and religion to be fascinating, and it would be cool if the Annunaki came and spoke to us......
