Good lord no, ask the people who went to the hills and had their last rites read to them in the year 1000 how that went.btaylor2404
I would but everyone who did that in the year 1000 is DEAD, thus proving how apocalyptic it was!

You what the saddest thing is? No matter how many of these so called "doomsday predictions" are shown to be BS, some people just keep buying into them all the same.

There's more to it than that... The Mayans made a doomsday prophecy. The reason there's a stir about 2012 is because the Mayans have predicted other events in the past that have actually been quite accurate. It's not because the calandar ends...RotaryRX7

1) There is no "doomsday" prophecy. One age turning into another is not the end of the world.
2) The Mayans have only been successful at predicting astronomical events... which anyone with a mind for math can do out of their own backyard.

History Channel. :| Use Google...tons of false information out there.RotaryRX7

Fixed. Just because the History Channel says it, doesn't make it true. The entire issue is a complete misinterpretation of a myth associated with ancient Mayan religion. The actual myth is where this age will end and a new age of peace will begin with the coming of the 21st of December, 2012. That's the myth. The calendar does not end, nor is there a doomsday prediction. Too many people do not understand what the whole deal is about, and lack full understanding of the source of the concern.

Of course, it would be quite nice for this one singular mythological prophecy to come true... an "enlightening" and "age of peace" is never a bad thing. But chances are, that's not going to happen.

Give me any solid evidence of them stating such a prediction.

why should i go research for you, what are you that lazy. just because you havent looked it up, doesnt make it not true, are you afraid to look it up or something.

I can't research on something thats made up:P.

Did anyone ever stop to think that maybe the Mayans just got bored of writing the calender. :)

We have to find a Mayan to write another 1000 years onto the calendar, that's what.

I dont understand where people get the assumption that because the Mayan calender ends on that year, so does the world.

St_JimmyX

I agree: Perhaps it only ends on 2012, because they may have been attacked rather vicously, and the guys who were making the calander were killed.
Just because it ends on that year does not necissarily mean its the end. I don't know why people don't think of that.

Yeah, their records even indicate that the calender has repeated itself many times, and that we're just entering a new calender age...

The History/Discovery channel is banking on the world ending in 2012, and when it doesn't, they still made a killing in the ratings due to hype/sensationalism, so it's a win-win situation for them either way (Capitalist pricks). It's like milking bogus Y2K fear for maximum profit all over again.

It does not "end." Like any particular year on the Gregorian calendar, it just switches over to a new "year." It goes from 12.19.19.17.19 to 13.0.0.0.0.

And the "end of the world" comes from a myth that is being blown completely out of proportion. "The beginning of a new age" in the hands of fundamentalist alarmists becomes "the end of the world."
