It does annoy me. A tourist or someone on vacation is one thing, but people who live here that dont annoy me. If you decide to come here.. that is great, but learn the language. Too many people dont speak English and make no effort to learn it which is absurd. You should not be given legal residency or citizenship without speaking English.

If I became fluent in a second language, I'd speak it with whoever I could. It'd be mysterious.

To be truthfully honest, it does annoy me. If you're going to live in America, learn the language, and learn it correctly.

I live in a part of Dallas where people from the Middle East and Mexico live with white people... so to do business with everyone here, you need to know how to understand some English, Spanish, and Urdu (My dad is from Pakistan and he's fluent in it, very interesting culture he comes from).

I live in Denver, and we have one of the biggest immigrant populations in the country. It really does irritate me when people that do not speak English get jobs which require them to talk to people. If they don't want to learn the language, they shouldn't have to, but they should NOT get jobs that require a lot of public contact.

People all over the world would have every right to adopt this policy. If you want to live in Japan that badly, learn at least the basics of the language.

I can't even begin to imagine living in a country where I don't know at least some of the language =/ Even going on holiday for a week, it frustrates me if I can't attempt to make some form of communication with the people who live there.

Yeah...I have noticed that Indians that are always in the malls where i live tend to do that a lot =/

So people who are both more fluent in a non-English language should have to speak English with one another... because it annoys you? If they can better express themselves in their own language when talking to another person who is also fluent, doesn't it make more sense for them to speak that language? How intolerant...

It does bother me that I can't understand a language....but since English wasn't the first tongue spoken here...or the first for that matter, I don't really care. If it bothers you that tourists don't speak the language correctly, you shouldn't find out about what the American people know of it. "I speak American."

Sony could greatly turn their whole “rumble” ordeal around in the eyes of the gamer if they incorporate Immersion’s latest ‘TouchSense’ technology over what was used in the PS2 controller. We got to try their new rumble technology first hand and we must say it’s a better experience than what you’re feeling today by leaps and bounds. The controller just doesn’t rumble, in rumbles in a way that matches your on-screen experience. Shotguns feel like bursts, machine guns have rapid but distinct sensations, and the all powerful light saber hums in the palms of your hand. ‘TouchSense’ is rumble for the next-generation. Time will only tell if Sony intends to include their Immersion’s latest technology.

Firstly, I'm female. Secondly, this is a huge over-reaction. Is it really so wrong to expect someone to learn the language of the country they live in!? Sure, if someone is a refugee, and has a good reason to need to leave their home country, they should be welcomed anywhere. But if someone just thinks, "hey, it'd be really cool to live in Japan" (or any other country, for that matter), it's only fair that they learn the basic language and customs of the place they wish to live.

Sorry.... I only got about 4 hours sleep last night, so I'm feeling a bit grumpy, and jumping on the chance to start yelling at people. Usually, I would have thought, "hmm, this probably isn't entirely serious..." before replying.

In fact, I think I'm gonna get some sleep now... so tired...

It doesn't annoy me at all really that people come to the US and cannot speak of a lick of it actually.  But I do like to see people actually try to learn english.  This does not mean laws should be in effect for anyone moving here.  Of course for anyone moving here, they should know the important customs before coming (or else people might get offended).  Thats my honest oppinion on that one.  You should sleep .. sleepy head :P

If I said that it annoyed me then I would be a hypocrite. I've been living in sweden for almost 5 years but still speak english to my friends. They all understand me so I haven't bothered speaking swedish, though I do speak swedish in school.

Well, seeing that the USA has no official language, hating people because they speak a different language is just plain nativism. Most people have ancestors that came here during the huge wave of immigration in the early 1900's. Most of them didn't speak english. Are you saying they should have not been allowed into The Land of Opportunity?

I don't mind if they can't speak the language but only if they speak in another language to have a private conversation. I mean, for all I know they could be laughing at me.
