Do you like Pixar ordreamworks? From dreanworks I really liked "over the hedge" and "Shrek" but only the first shrek after that they werent as good. There worst is either "Flushed away" or "Shark Tale"

From Pixar I liked "Finding Nemo" both Toy Storys "A Bugs Life" and "Monsters inc". i did not like "Cars" "Ratatouille" or "TheIncredibles" I have not seen up or Wall-e

So I would have to say Pixar over dreamworks just because i think dreamworks makes to many movies that dont seem to have much put into them and arent that funny.

Shrek was decent but is by no means anything special. Pixar dominates the animated movies.

Pixar is devoted to animated films. Dreamworks is across the board. I will not compare them.

Dreamworks just makes your average animated films. If you want a fair competition with Pixar, do it with Miyazaki's films.

Dreamworks has done some pretty great stuff (The Prince of Egypt, my favorite, is simply stunning in every way), but there's just no beating Pixar here.

If it wasn't for the genius of the first Shrek movie dreamworks would have have nothing in their catalogue that could even hold a candle to pixar's WORST.

EDIT: I forgot that dreamworks used to do 2D movies. I liked most of those. I am only using their 3D movies in this comparison. Also, I haven't seen kung fu panda :P

Dreamworks is not fit to be mentioned in the same sentence. I mean, what movie has Dreamworks done that has actually been good? Shrek? It was alright, but anyone watch it recently? So many lame pop culture references, it feels like it came from a completely different era. And the macarena dance at the end was dated even when it released. Everything else they have done has been a painful attempt to use star power and top billing to push terrible stories and lame jokes. The only non-Pixar 3D movie that I feel approaches their level (but still doesn't reach) is Robots, and that's by Blue Sky Studio, not Dreamworks. Kung Fu Panda might have been good if they used the art style of the intro for the entire movie.

Yeah, I got all excited when I first popped it in, thinking that the movie looked awesome. Then I realized that it wasn't going to last more than a few minutes before going back to kid-friendly animals and slapstick gags. Still, props to them for even using that art style at all.

I didn't think the animation was bad at all (during the regular portions of the movie) but they set the bar insatiably high with that intro. I think the franchise will live on, so hopefully one day they can do a full movie like that.

Dreamworks has a few good hand-drawn animated movies under their belt. I already mentioned The Prince of Egypt, which is absolutely astounding and completely underrated. The Road to El Dorado was good too, despite the slapstick humor here and there. The pop culture references in Shrek were meant to be there, I think, but I don't think Shrek tops Dreamworks' hand-drawn stuff.

Robots was a nightmare. I hated that movie so much.

Overall, Dreamworks. For animation, Pixar. Dreamworks' animation house isn't as good imo, but they more than make up for it with all of the quality live action films they release. Plus they're the home of Spielberg and his movies are usually really good.

I was going to reply with, "yeah, because American Beauty, Letters to Iwo Jima, Gladiator and basically every Spielberg film made from 96 and later are some of the worst movies ever made " But it looks like someone already beat me to it.

iginlawasup

The closest thing to "bad" in that movie is the fact that it's not Biblically accurate; the animation, epic musical score and cast are all perfect. One of the best animated movies ever made, and it's such a shame that hardly anyone I know has ever heard of it.

Semantics. Did anyone really think the conversation was about Dreamworks (sans Animation) versus Pixar? That's like wandering into a Yamaha versus Honda thread on motorbikes and bringing up the fact that Honda makes cars.

I would have thought the original poster's intent was quite clear even if he forgot the 'Animation' at the end of Dreamworks. I doubt he intended to compare Dreamworks' live action stuff. Then again, maybe I'm too used to interpreting typos online.

Even without any clarification in the OP, Pixar is an animation studio, comparing their work to another studio should be a safe bet that it was meant to be an animation-centric part of a studio.

I thought the thread was about Dreamworks vs Pixar because it was called "Dreamworks vs Pixar". People make idiot comparisons on this site everyday. I figured this was a thread where people were counting movies as movies and trying to say that as a whole, Pixar films compete with all other types of films, so compare the two companies.

Plus, when people are making blanket statements to the effect of, "Dreamworks has never made a good movie"... I couldn't resist.

Also, your motorcycle vs doesn't hold up. If this was motorcycles.com, then yeah. But this is the type of site where people will compare games like Halo to Final Fantasy and be like, "which is better." Those are two radically different games in radically different genres but stuff like this is the norm on Gamespot. Thinking that a thread called "Dreamworks vs Pixar" was about Dreamworks vs Pixar isn't as crazy as you make it out to be.
