Pixar easily, the only movie by dreamworks I liked was kung fu panda.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
The first Shrek and Kung Fu Panda were both fantastic movies. That being said, Dreamworks created Madagascar, so I have to give it to Pixar. Plus, UP was beautiful.
I did... when someone says Dreamworks I don't just think of their Animation capacity.[QUOTE="Sajedene"][QUOTE="smokingsbad"]No Contest, I wonder who voted for Dreamworks LulzNerd_Man
Dreamworks and Dreamworks Animation are two completely different divisions. Disney bought that deal of distributing Dreamworks films last year and yet Dreamworks Animation was not included in the deal, because the Animation branch is completely different from the main company.
EXACTLY. That is why I voted Dreamworks. If the topic said Dreamworks Animation then its completely different and I would have definitely voted Pixar. Like I said, it might not be a big deal here at GS, but I was trained to make it a big deal. :\[QUOTE="Nerd_Man"]

I guess the issue is can one compare an animation studio to a film studio. That's not the issue. I think you're just confused between the two.
Back in '94, Dreamworks SKG (Spielberg, Katzenberg, Geffren) was born. At the time it was just a single company, but in '04 Dreamworks Animation was removed from the main company and now is run by Katzenberg. Dreamworks Animation is now a completely independent company. It still has the logo of Dreamworks and all that, because it's run by the guy who started Dreamworks in the first place, but it is indeed now an independent company.
Whenever people compare Pixar to Dreamworks, there was never an issue of confusion between which divisions people are referring to. When Pixar and Dreamworks are in the same category, people should automatically know that the topic is the animation companies, not live-action companies.
Pixar of course.
The only thing I like from Dreamworks is Kung Fu Panda or Shreck, although their hand-drawn films are better animated ones.
Yeah, but then you can't take things completely at face value in a smarmy sort of way when someone forgets to stick 'Animation' on the end of Dreamworks.Whenever people compare Pixar to Dreamworks, there was never an issue of confusion between which divisions people are referring to. I think the reason why most people drop the full name is because it's just too long. When people talk about Disney, they just say Disney... not The Walt Disney Company, because that's simply too long and would get lame having to say it all the time. Same with Dreamworks Animation SKG. Saying it out is just tedious after a while. It's pretty obvious when topics about Pixar and Dreamworks like this one comes up, that the topic is about the animation companies and nothing more.

If I make that mistake at my job, people can get fired. So assumptions are a no go. I was not confused. They are two different things. If I compare Dreamworks to LucasFilm would you get what I am asking? If I say Pixar and LucasArts would that be comparable? What about LucasFilm Animation vs Pixar?Someone should make a Pixar vs Ghibli vs Classic Disney thread, now that would be interesting.Brutal_ElitegsI've been saying that throughout the entire thread. :P

No it is not but I have the proper train of thought. When someone posts Dreamworks vs Pixar and just decides to focus on their animation projects, that is their deal. I chose to incorporate into my decision the live action projects of Dreamworks because they are involved in that as well. They both are production companies and they both produce films, one just happens to only do animated films. When you say Dreamworks, I am not going to assume it only be animation because that is incorrect. There is nothing to correct me on here because I did not do anything nor assume anything incorrect here just because majority of the thread only decided to focus on the animation aspects of mentioned production companies.[QUOTE="Nerd_Man"][QUOTE="Sajedene"] If I make that mistake at my job, people can get fired. I don't really want to go back and forth with this anymore. I think we all know by now that this thread was focused on the animation studios. Not much more to be said, really.
[QUOTE="Brutal_Elitegs"]Someone should make a Pixar vs Ghibli vs Classic Disney thread, now that would be interesting.sammyjenkis898I've been saying that throughout the entire thread. :P Talk is cheap :x Who would you choose? I honestly would be stuck at a crossroad if I were to try and choose between these three. I think nostalgia would tip the scale in favour of Disney and Pixar since I watched most of Ghibli's work as an adult but I feel blasphemous just saying that. I'd rather just not vote.

I do believe that Up is better than anything that Disney and Ghibli have made, though. :)It's hard not to let nostalgia creep in. Although, last month I went on a Disney watching spree reliving my past favourites as well as enjoying the few I missed, and even though I looked at them more critically they're better than I remembered. I appreciate the animation more now that I'm older. It's hard to choose since as you said all three studios have produced films that comprise the top of my favourite animated film list (as well as a few other animated features from other sources: Iron Giant anyone?). The next three on your list should definitely be Nausica of the Valley of the Wind, Laputa: Castle in the Sky and Whisper of the Heart. Grave of the Fireflies was a brilliant film, incredibly sad. You should watch Barefoot Gen and the film Nobody Knows which share similar themes to GotF (both might be hard to find though).I do believe that Up is better than anything that Disney and Ghibli have made, though. :)[QUOTE="sammyjenkis898"][QUOTE="Nerd_Man"]

Classic Disney has tons of amazing films. Some of my favorites will have to go to Pinocchio and Peter Pan.
