Pixar easily. Most of Dreamworks animated movies are very lame, through Shrek and Prince of Egypt are awesome.

I thought the thread was about Dreamworks vs Pixar because it was called "Dreamworks vs Pixar". People make idiot comparisons on this site everyday. I figured this was a thread where people were counting movies as movies and trying to say that as a whole, Pixar films compete with all other types of films, so compare the two companies.[QUOTE="DJ_Lae"]Semantics. Did anyone really think the conversation was about Dreamworks (sans Animation) versus Pixar? That's like wandering into a Yamaha versus Honda thread on motorbikes and bringing up the fact that Honda makes cars.Senor_Kami
Plus, when people are making blanket statements to the effect of, "Dreamworks has never made a good movie"... I couldn't resist.
Also, your motorcycle vs doesn't hold up. If this was motorcycles.com, then yeah. But this is the type of site where people will compare games like Halo to Final Fantasy and be like, "which is better." Those are two radically different games in radically different genres but stuff like this is the norm on Gamespot. Thinking that a thread called "Dreamworks vs Pixar" was about Dreamworks vs Pixar isn't as crazy as you make it out to be.
I suppose, although my point was just that while the title of the thread is 'Dreamworks vs. Pixar' a quick read of the first post makes it obvious that it was intended to be Dreamworks Animation versus Pixar, but the inclusion of the second word slipped the poster's mind. Same with my post, where I was just using Dreamworks to refer to their animation arm.Dreamworks has done some great stuff (The Prince of Egypt, Shrek, Shrek 2), but they simply don't compare with Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., and Finding Nemo.
A more interesting question would have been Disney vs. Pixar.
Pixar has an unblemished track record...Dreamworks, not so much.spazzx625
Cars would beg to differ...

Chew on this:
Dreamworks makes better horror movies.
chessmaster1989
Toy Story 3: The Revenge of Woody
Finding Nemo 2: The Curse of the Frying Pan
Cars 2: Blood EngineTo put it simple:
Dreamworks Animation is an executive company. The same guy (Jeffrey Katzenberg) who helped contribute to Disney's downfall when he was at Disney. Ever since he was fired by Michael Eisner, he ran off and started Dreamworks Animation and continued his executive work their. He cares about business, not the art of animation. Katzenberg knows his strategies well enough on how to make money. If you make a simple movie with cute smiling animals and pop culture references, he knows it would be enough for kids to beg their parents to take them to see it. The downside to Katzenberg's strategies is that he restricts the creativity on the actual artists and storytellers. As a result his workers might not be as happy working for him, because he can be a genuine ass, apparently.
Pixar came into Disney back when Disney was still a very executive driven company. Disney threatoned John Lasseter and Pixar many times and closely monitered them. Pixar was almost shut down many times because Disney did not like their idea that story and the artists should have the freedom to create what they wanted to make. Finally Disney stepped back a bit and let Pixar make Toy Story the way they wanted to make it; and needless to say, Pixar blew everyone away. Pixar pretty much took over Disney and kicked out much of the executive business folks that gave the company a bad name and let the artists and storytellers have their own playground with limitless possibilities.
With that said, Dreamworks is still that bastard child that broke off of the old Walt Disney Company, and Pixar was a new birth of animation. Needless to say, I'm sure anyone can agree that everyone is happier working at Pixar than the employees at Dreamworks, and the results of their portfolios is painfully obvious which tactics (Executive or creativity) are more effective.
Pixar all the way. Until Dreamworks gets their act together, they will never be anywhere close to what Pixar can do.

Cars may be a low point in their catalog, but it's not nearly as dismal as Dreamworks' worst.Of course not, but I'd still say it was a bad movie, by any standards.
[QUOTE="smokingsbad"]No Contest, I wonder who voted for Dreamworks LulzSajedeneI did... when someone says Dreamworks I don't just think of their Animation capacity.
Dreamworks and Dreamworks Animation are two completely different divisions. Disney bought that deal of distributing Dreamworks films last year and yet Dreamworks Animation was not included in the deal, because the Animation branch is completely different from the main company.

Obligatory.

This pretty much sums it all up.
Okay, to be fair, Shrek and Shrek 2 were great.

Agreed. The only studio that makes the same quality of animated films is Ghibli.
[QUOTE="chessmaster1989"]I would disagree, it was better than I expected but I wouldn't call it bad Agreed. It certainly wasn't up to Pixar's usual standards, but it wasn't exactly bad.Of course not, but I'd still say it was a bad movie, by any standards.
spazzx625
Dreamworks is obviously the better studio. Do you know how hard it is to make the same movie over and over and not even realize it? Amazing...
Not only does Pixar completely school DW in animation quality they also face own them when it comes to the quality of the movie itself. Not even remotely a contest by any stretch of the imagination under any circumstances.

*shrugs* just my opinion on it. But, regardless, I think we can all agree that it wasn't on par with Toy Story :P.
I really liked Antz. Am I the only one?
supercubedude64
I enjoyed it. It's not one of the best animated films out there, but it was pretty good.
[QUOTE="chessmaster1989"]Oh, totally. I would even agree that it is the worst Pixar film.*shrugs* just my opinion on it. But, regardless, I think we can all agree that it wasn't on par with Toy Story :P.

It's definitely the worst of all the ones I've seen. Haven't seen The Incredibles or Up. Don't plan to see the former, might see the latter on DVD.

I agree, but that is pretty much the only movies I liked from Dreamworks. I just feel that Pixar makes higher quality movies than Dreamworks.Oh, totally. I would even agree that it is the worst Pixar film.[QUOTE="spazzx625"][QUOTE="chessmaster1989"]

It will be a pleasing experience to see Toy Story on the big screen again. It's pretty nice that they're re-releasing them.[QUOTE="chessmaster1989"][QUOTE="spazzx625"] Oh, totally. I would even agree that it is the worst Pixar film.sammyjenkis898
